Baby racehorse Angus is snooping in the diary to see what he’s doing tomorrow 🤣🥰
A little teaser from Courage GNZ second ride at the beach today. For those of you who arnt aware Courage was sold at auction by Canter for Cancer and so very generously donated by Goldengrove Studfarm with all proceeds going towards canter research. Breaking him in here was our contribution to the cause 🥰
Claudia Odlin was the lucky one to end up with this c**t joining her team 🎗️💝
Not long to go now 👏
Bring on Spring
I hsve to say we are pretty excited about the weather forecast this week!!! ☀️Featuring Prince one of our baby racehorses this afternoon
A bit of an exciting start to
Courage GNZ first ride at the beach but here we are walking back in after a trot and canter up the beach and back 👏☺️
He’s definitely earnt the weekend off after such a big learning week!

Courage GNZ had a little adventure today! A trip down to the beach for an (unridden) look around. Manda Lever taking good care of him well I was riding other horses.
I really wanted him to have the opportunity to come and check me out well I was riding another horse. It’s amazing how many horses are “horse shy” when there is a rider aboard. LilRed was the best choice as they are the best of friends.
How many breakers get to go for a play at the beach 😍

Horses and saddles….. A big can of worms
Pictured is Reggie who came to be brought back into work after pain related bad behaviour at the breakers.
He didn’t arrive with his own saddle and I’ve spent quite some time working out what works for him.
I have 7 work hack saddles, 2 personal jump saddles and multiple exercises saddles. Even so I still don’t always have the right saddle to fit every horse.
Reggie ended up happiest in one of my
Personal jump saddles (of course)
Today we tried his owners gear for the first time. Adding a thin line pad for comfort.
First ride was ok but I personally don’t think you can really tell if a saddle is going to work from just one ride.
I strongly suggest riding in a saddle for at least a week when possible
Signs to look for if the saddle isn’t right….
•Horses dropping their backs when placing the saddle on
•Agitation when girthing
•Unwillingness to stand for mounting
•Pinning ears back when being ridden
•Not wanting to go forwards
•Rushing
•Tail swishing
•Bucking
•Rearing
•Grumpy when being hosed off and sponged
These are just a few of many but of course can also be symptoms of other problems 🤯
Saddles can be the difference between a great ride and a dangerous ride so it’s a big deal!!
I get my own horses checked every year and I suggest regular checks
Not only does your horse change shape
But your saddle does too AND so do you!!!

All the dog trainers out there will be rolling their eyes at the lack of training 🫣 BUT in my defence I train horses not dogs and look how well Reggy stood well I was trying to to get a cute photo with my delinquent child 🤷♀️. Reggy was incapable of standing calmly well mounted when he arrived so I take this as a win 🏆 Tania Jones

Completely unfazed 🤣🤣🤣
Courage GNZ had his first little ride in the arena today. Wearing his brand new Canter for Cancer saddle blanket! 😍
We started off in the roundyard as it’s very early days under saddle. Once he was relaxed and attentive we headed to the arena. Courage was so brave through the puddles…..I don’t think water jumps will be an issue Claudia Odlin
Doesn’t he make a pretty picture ❤️

Ride 3 for Courage GNZ. Courage had Friday and Saturday off to just roll around in the mud and be a horse after his first 2 rides. So ride 3 today and although he is not ready to be braving it around the track yet he confidently walked into the washbay 👏Goldengrove Studfarm Canter for Cancer Claudia Odlin
Prince definitely seems to enjoy the mud. Personally 🤯
Reggy is our other customer who started some bad behaviour due to injury.
He was being broken in and his trainer felt he wasn’t right behind. He was diagnosed with and injury to his sacroiliac joint. It was medicated and he was sent home for some unridden rehab.
Reggy came to us to re start his ridden career.
I found him very anxious in general. He would put his back up when saddling and wouldn’t stand still to get mounted. Once on he felt extremely nervous and showed signs of rearing and bucking.
After trying different saddles, different approaches and just giving him time to settle I felt it was something else.
We have put him on a course of ulcershield and within 5 days he’s a different horse. He is relaxed to gear up, stands to get on and walks off calmly. He is eating his feed and so much more content ❤️
If anyone has a horse showing these signs consider consulting with your vet about Ulcers
Photos below are Reggy looking very relaxed in 2 new environments after 5-6 days into his ulcer treatment

Courage GNZ first ride this afternoon. Another longer video, sorry guys but I’m just so proud. Feel free to mute if you get sick of my ramblings 🫣 Goldengrove Studfarm Canter for Cancer Claudia Odlin
I have a couple of horses here atm that have learnt some bad habits due to pain reactions. Shadow is a sweet boy who unknown to his owners at the time had bruised his rib and when mounted proceeded to Bronc like a rodeo horse. After a visit to the physio and some time off he has come to us to bring back into work. This is a video explaining my way of breaking this behaviour and giving Shadow a happy place to go and his rider an aid to use when needed. A longish video but maybe it can help someone else out there with a horse of their own
im really enjoying how Courage GNZ thinks and processes. This is his time long reining, his first time having to walk into the shed and into the washbay ahead of someone. Hes so clever! You can see he gets a little worried when I’m firm with him about taking the lead into the wash-bay, but just watch how he is brave enough to stand and think about what I’m asking him. He doesn’t panic and over react Goldengrove Studfarm Canter for Cancer Claudia Odlin
Trying to save the farrier a bit of work 🤷♀️ Weanling Charlie having is first ever trim 👏👏👏 This is the reason why I have no words for humans. Because non stop rubbish comes out of my mouth all day long around the horses 🫣
Aside from actually getting out of bed, mornings are my favorite time with the horses. Hugo giving weanling Sassy some love ❤️
