It is spring time here at New Beginnings Ranch ✨️ πŸŒ„
We have three new additions 😍 and have moved to a new property. There is a lot of work to do, but we're looking forward to what the future may bring πŸ˜„

I have recently started rug training Tui.
I begin this process with the rope however she has progressed so I am now using a saddle blanket to get her used to having something on her back.
I used a saddle blanket purely because it is smaller and easier for me to handle, but also because it is not as intimidating for the horse 😊

Introduced Tui and Bandit to traffic today by standing at the end of the driveway. πŸš™
They were quite nervous but they did very well for their first time πŸ’•
By practicing groundwork and building a connection with these two horses, I am giving them the tools to help them have confidence and trust in me which helps to keep them calm and sensible in scary situations.
Every horse will be nervous at some point but it is how they respond and deal with the situation that matters, this is on us and our responsibility to get them to a relaxed state of mind 😊

In this session a lot of focus was desensitization to the rope. Bandit has a fear of ropes touching him anywhere passed his face so we are going slow, at his pace, with little steps at a time as to not flood him and make his fear worse.

Here is Charlie 😊 He is a 7 year old Gypsy Cob x Stationbred. He is a very sweet horse and very calm in general. His greatest love is food, no matter what it is, as long as it's edible. He's been well handled throughout his life but is now learning mainly to respect personal space and be more motivated as he is very lazy. He is also just starting his riding career.

This is Tui. ❀ She is a 1½ year old Northland Stationbred. She was very reactive toward everything when she arrived. Her go to response was pull back and bolt. She has calmed down a lot since then and now gives into pressure. She's gained heaps of confidence and now seeks out human interaction rather than taking off when humans were near. She has a lot to learn but she's come a very long way 😊

Introducing Bandit 🐴 he is a 2 year old East Coast Stationbred gelding. I bought him unhandled off the hills 6 months ago. This can be deemed a long time to only know so much, but there was and is no rush to get him trained as fast as possible. With my training, I go at the speed the horse is comfortable with, only moving on when they're ready. Going too fast can overwhelm the horse and leave potential gaps in training. This can create a horse that has anxiety, can not fall back on their training and think for themselves, has trust issues, is spooky, and more.

Here, Bandit is learning to move off at his front end and disengage his hind end both haltered and at liberty.

**Disclaimer** The electric fence I use as my makeshift pen is NOT on. I do not have facilities so I have to make do with what I have 😊

Hi! My name is Samantha, and I am the founder of New Beginnings Ranch.
I created this business because I believe every horse deserves a New beginning in life despite their background.
My goal is to provide knowledge and training for clients who are wanting to learn a different approach to horse training.
I am a horse trainer, certified through β€˜Ride like a viking’. I use a variety of methods in my training but mainly work on trust and relationship building between horse and owner as I believe those are the main foundations of a successful relationship. 🐴❀
