Found a Litter of Kittens? Here's What You Should Do 🐱💛

If you find a litter of kittens, it’s important to stay calm and take the right steps to ensure their safety. Here’s what you can do:

Assess the Situation – If the kittens are safe and their mother is nearby, it’s best to leave them alone. Mama cat will return to care for them.

Check for Danger – If the kittens are in immediate danger (e.g., on a busy road), carefully move them to a safer location nearby. Avoid taking them inside unless necessary.

Keep an Eye on Them – If the mother doesn’t return within a few hours, the kittens may need help. Call your local shelter or vet for advice on how to care for them.

Don't Feed Them Cow's Milk – Kittens need kitten-specific milk replacer, not regular milk. Feeding them the wrong type of milk can cause serious health problems.

If you’re unsure about what to do or need assistance, CareVets Mt Wellington is here to help with expert advice on caring for kittens in need.

Why is Vitamin C Important for Guinea Pigs? 🐹🧡

Did you know that guinea pigs can’t produce their own Vitamin C? This vital nutrient is essential for their health, supporting their immune system, helping with wound healing, and ensuring healthy growth. Without enough Vitamin C, guinea pigs can develop scurvy and other health issues. 🐾

Make sure your guinea pig gets plenty of Vitamin C with fresh foods like:

Bell peppers
Kale
Parsley
Broccoli

You can also offer a Vitamin C supplement to their diet, such as OXBOW Vitamin C supplements (available at CareVets Mt Wellington!) Our OXBOW supplements are a great way to ensure your guinea pig gets the right amount of this essential nutrient.

If you have any questions or need advice, our team is here to help!

🌞 Summer Heat Safety Tips for Your Pets! 🐾

With the rising temperatures, it's important to keep your furry friends safe and comfortable. Here are some quick tips to help beat the heat:

💧 Hydration is Key: Always provide fresh water and add ice cubes to keep it cool.
🌳 Shade & Ventilation: Make sure your pet has a shady spot to rest and plenty of airflow.
🔥 Avoid Hot Surfaces: Test pavements or sand with your hand to ensure they’re not too hot on their paws.
🚶‍♂️ Exercise During Cooler Hours: Take walks in the morning or evening when it’s cooler.
🚗 No Pets in Cars: Never leave pets in a parked car, even with windows down!
⚠️ Watch for Heatstroke: Symptoms like panting, drooling, or lethargy mean it's time to act fast—contact your vet if you're concerned.

Keep your pets cool, safe, and happy this summer! 🌞🐕🐱
