Here we have Archie! After his vaccination, this golden boy couldn’t contain his excitement and wanted to say hello! 👋💛

Fun fact: golden retrievers were originally bred in Scotland in the late 19th century for retrieving games during hunting, due to their excellent sense of smell and friendly temperament. 🐾🐕

Thanks for brightening our day Archie 🌟

Did you know oral disease has become a top health problem for dogs? 🐶🦷

Here are our top tips for preventing dental problems and keeping your canine’s smile in tip-top form:
✅ A nutritious diet
✅ Chew treats can help remove plaque and provide stimulation for the gums.
❌ Watch out for wood – throwing sticks to dogs or letting your dog pick up a piece of wood can result in splinters and gum damage.
❌ Don’t let your pet chew on hard materials like stones or even some types of bones. They can wear down and even break teeth, damage gums, and lead to infection.

Until the end of August, we're offering FREE dental checks with a nurse at our clinics. Bookings are essential, get in quick! 📅✅

Ugh - That Breath!

Have you ever regretted smooches with your cat or dog? Recoiled at the fish breath? 😵🐟 Many people think it's normal. Well, it's not!

Bad breath in our pets, often called halitosis, is most commonly caused by periodontal disease. This can and should be treated as it will continue to get worse, can lead to other health issues, and most importantly, can be causing your pet pain that you may not be aware of (dental pain can be some of the most uncomfortable, as I'm sure you'll agree).

If you think your pet has bad breath, let's talk about it - we're here to help you help your best bud. 🐶🐱💕

For the rest of August, we're offering FREE dental checks with a nurse at our clinics. Bookings are essential! 📅✅

🐾✨ Meet Snowy, one of our nurses very own "Odd-Eyed Wonder"! 😻🌈

Did you know that all kittens are born with blue eyes, but they can change colour as they grow? Most cats end up with matching eye colours, but Snowy has a special trait called heterochromia! 🎨👁️

Heterochromia means Snowy has one eye with melanin (colour) and one eye that's still blue. 🩵🐱

Swipe to see Snowy’s unique eyes and celebrate the beauty of cats with this magical trait! 🐈‍⬛💖

Let's Talk About Dental Discomfort

Have you experienced dental pain? It's often touted as one of the worst. Just by looking at you, most people wouldn't know anything was wrong. You might still eat fairly normally and carry on with some painkillers until your dentist appointment.

But what about your pet? 🐶🐱 How can you tell if they're experiencing dental pain? They can't just tell us! 🦷😔

Periodontal disease is widespread among pets and can cause serious discomfort, often without us even noticing.

Your pet is there for you when you're in pain, so let's make sure they're not hiding any of their own. Let us help check out those chompers - here's to no more dental pain! 🐾💕

For July and August, we're offering FREE dental checks with a nurse at our clinics. Bookings are essential! 📅✅

🐾✨ Paws Up for Pre-Anaesthetic Testing! ✨🐾

Before your furry friend has an anaesthetic, we're all about keeping them safe and sound! 🩺🐶🐱 Pre-anaesthetic testing is like a health check-up before a big event. We recommend testing you pets blood and sometimes urine to:

✅ **Personalise Anaesthesia** – Tailor the anaesthetic plan for your pet's unique needs.

✅ **Check Organ Function** – Make sure hearts, livers, and kidneys are in tip-top shape!

✅ **Detect Hidden Issues** – Spot any sneaky diseases before they become a problem.

Why do we do it? To ensure your pet is fit for anaesthesia and to help them recover smoothly. Plus, these tests are a great way to catch any health hiccups early on! 💉❤️

Stay proactive, keep those tails wagging, and let’s make sure our pets are always ready for their next adventure! 🐾✨

The benefits of having a buddy! 💕

Did you know bunny are best kept in bonded pairs?

Rabbits are social animals and do best when kept with a bonded pair. This bond is usually strongest between a des*xed male and female but can work between same s*x pairings (when des*xed).

As bunny’s are prey species they are always on alert for predators. When they have a friend they are able to take turns on watch giving their mate a chance to forage and relax knowing that they will be alerted to any danger that is seen.

Having a bonded pair is also good for their health. Rabbits often help keep each other clean, help each other express natural behaviours and give them someone to communicate with.

As much as we love our bunnies we don’t speak bunny so will never be able to communicate with them like a friend will ❤️

Wait, rabbits need vaccines too?!?!? 💉🦠

YES!! Rabbits can contract Calicivirus (also called rabbit hemorrhagic disease).

This is a deadly disease that sadly has no cure, with an almost 100% death rate upon contraction; it does not display many symptoms and can cause death within a few hours 😭

And that is why we HIGHLY recommend vaccinating your rabbits (even the indoor ones) annually as these pathogens can spread through flies, live in the environment, on food and objects up to 3 months. 🪰

You can book in your bunny at Carevets Mt Wellington to receive their Filavac vaccine from the age of 10 weeks old 💟

📣 Did you know: 📣

Rabbits are prey species!! This means they can mask their pain quite well 😣 Buut, there are also noticeable signs that could point to a vet visit:

Signs to look out for include:

▪️Losing weight
▪️Itchy ears or weepy eyes
▪️Drooling or nose discharge
▪️Lethargic, hunched posture and not eating ceacotrophs
▪️Lack or reduced appetite (this is a big one) as it can indicate gut stasis (which is life threatening) and would class as an emergency

DE-SEX YOUR RABBITS! 🐇

…And here’s a list why:
🔸To avoid undesired breeding and babies
🔸To avoid aggression and domination within same s*x bonded pairs
🔸To avoid uterine cancer in females (80% of females over the age of 4yrs are prone to this)
🔸To help avoid inappropriate urination problems in the household

You can book in your fur-baby to be des*xed with our very own Dr Kezia 🩷

We saved the BESSt for last of course

Here’s Bess 🖤 🐾

Bess is our clinic cat, in fact, she is the best clinic cat (said without any bias). Bess is 10 yrs young and you can typically catch her hanging around in reception 😴

When she’s not working hard (or hardly working), Bess likes to watch cat tv, roll in dirt and stare down any macho doggo that looks her way 😅😹

Meet our support staff: Melissa, Eden & Mia 💗

They are the helping hands that make sure everything in the clinic is prepared for when your four-legged friend enters the building.

We rely so much on their help to make sure all runs smoothly and we are ever so thankful for them.

Fun fact: Next year will be Melissa’s 30 years with Carevets Mt Wellington. Wow, such an amazing display of commitment and dedication 🥳
