Progress is rarely a straight line - or so the saying goes. For those of us who choose a life with horses, whether it be competitive or pleasure pursuits, this quote may resonate.

To clock up hours with horses requires dedication, patience, time, commitment - some would say you need the stars to align. It isn't a hobby you can pick up when you feel like it, or only on the days the sun shines, as every rider and horse owner will likely attest.

A life with horses is a lifestyle.

I decided to set out and ask 3 of the inspirational people who have had impact and influence on my journey and learning with my horses about their approaches to set backs and how they have learned to keep pushing on during challenging times.

Hoot loves a good wither scratch and a bit of positive reinforcement. Willow 🤍 My heart horse who oozes versatility, power and grace and gives me the wings I lack to fly each and every day. The horse that so sensitively responds and carries me gently when I’m injured or unwell and soars with me when I’m at my best. The horse that forgives when I get it wrong and that steps up to the plate whether I want to fly around cross country, tackle the coloured poles, dance in the dressage ring or bash through the bush. She is one in a million and I adore her. supporting us wherever our journey takes us 💝

You can’t fool Merle…he can smell the goodness! Digestive EQ and RP are both complete digestive supplements for horses, targeting the entire digestive tract, from the stomach to the hind gut. A couple of weeks ago I decided to try to soothe my summer horsetrial FOMO with 2 days of dressage at the AMDG Amateur Champs. It was a stunning weather weekend and a beautifully organized show. Thankfully the body held up through 4 medium tests and our first crack at a musical. I’m so grateful for my versatile little Willow - finishing Reserve Champion in the Medium Amateur. Healthy horses are happy horses. Gosh feeding horses seems so complicated lately…Everyday I see posts asking about what to feed for weight gain, what to feed for balanced energy, brands, options, premixes, supplements….its fast becoming a minefield…and we are all striving so hard to provide our horses with the best 🩵 Personally I am a fan of a simple, whole food diet for myself so why should my horses be so different? DISCLAIMER…I’m not a diet expert, but to me it seems sensible that if horses have lived on forage sources for hundreds of years, then keeping close to this natural approach must be a good direction? My horses get a forage based feed regime, vitamins and gut support Digestive RP. It’s a system that is as simple and affordable as possible, but one that is resulting in 2 healthy horses. 🙏

There is an exciting event coming to a town near you soon - the ESNZ roadshow.
I cannot emphasize this part enough....This is not solely for ESNZ members - it is for ALL EQUESTRIANS whether you are a sports rider, recreational rider, owner, parent etc....

Everyone's voice matters and needs to be HEARD!

Please sign up and come along to one of our series of stops. The events are catered and will be fun and laid back plus you get to have your say on the future of equestrian - we really want to hear from a diverse range of equestrians ... so please come along and join the fun.

Thanks so much for the beautiful get well messages whanau! We are on the mend after a bit of a nasty dance with the corona monster - hopefully it is in our rear view mirror now.

I’ll be looking to resume lessons from next week so apologies if you have been waiting for me to get in touch. Feel free to pop me a message now for next week onwards as we should be on the up and up 🙏😵‍💫
