🐾 Meet Gorgeous Girl Fern, a sweet furry friend who gets a little nervous at the vet clinic, especially around needles. At The Strand Vet Clinic, we're dedicated to making sure every pet, like Fern, feels comfortable and cared for during their visit.
😿 With Fern, we understand her anxiety and take proactive steps to ease her worries. With a bit of pre-medication to help her relax, plenty of treats, and lots of patience and care from Vet Vanessa and Fern's mum, we're able to administer her monthly skin injection with minimal stress. And the best part? Fern still enjoys her treats afterward!
🌟 Our approach to helping anxious pets like Fern is simple: we work closely with you and your pet to find what works best for you both. Whether it's pre-medication, treats, or simply taking the time to create a calming environment, we're here to make sure your pet feels safe and secure.
🕒 That's why our appointments are 30 minutes long, allowing ample time for your pet to acclimate to the surroundings and for our team to work with them in a Fear-Free manner. We believe in giving both you and your pet the space and support needed to ensure a positive experience every time.
📞 If your pet struggles with anxiety at the vet, don't hesitate to reach out. 093776667 .Together, we'll find the best approach to make their visit as stress-free as possible. Because at The Strand Vet Clinic, your pet's well-being is our top priority.

🎊🎉Up for a prestigious HRNZ Wellbeing Program Award next week is the Vet Thrive Six Shield Program, written by founder Dr Megan Alderson, which was piloted by our team over the past 18 months with a remarkable response.
The team at The Strand Veterinarian are champions of the Vet Thrive Program and now the program will be promoted to the rest of the veterinary industry with a Massey University Research team prepped for ongoing research into the numerous benefits of the proactive well-being intervention offered by Vet Thrive.💞
Recently we received verification of Not One More Vet (NOMV)CLEAR Blueprint certification as a mentally healthy workplace, being the first veterinary practice outside America to achieve this standard, with outstanding and commendable survey scores. 💙
We look forward to seeing how “making the impossible, possible” is showcased in the world of HRNZ as a small business that dreams big!💡

Cute kitten alert! Rescues Lily and Autumn visit the clinic today ❤️❤️
Who are these tiny special girls?
These adorable and very tiny, bonded 4-week-old calico girls were brought in by kitten rescuer Caro, also part of the TSV team. They have significant damage to their eyes from cat flu despite being around the clock at home care. Being so young and tiny at only 350 grams each they have been unable to have their desperately needed surgery of enucleation with each girl needing an eye removed.
This is life-threatening, and the discussion has been made with much deliberation and research by the TSV team to undergo a very careful neonatal surgery for each kitten to allow them the opportunity to live life as one-eyed kitties. These girls are delightfully smoochy, affectionate, and playful despite their painful eyes.
How did the girls come to be rescued?
These sweet girls were taken in by Caro through an Auckland rescue. At barely 10 days old, they had been found callously tied up in a cloth bag and thrown into a backyard. They had survived the summer sun and rainfall before someone heard their cries and called for help. Of their litter of five, three survived. Since then they have been cared for with an abundance of TLC and with such a battle to survive from the start, we would love to give them every chance at life and to be adopted into a loving home after they have fully recovered.
If you can help, please share this story and send them love vibes.
If you would like to donate we have set up a page on Give a Little to help The Cottage Kittery get them the help they need. https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/we-need-your-help-to-save-tiny-autumn-and-lily

This lucky ducky was found by a member of the public and brought into our clinic after being hit by a car last week. He only suffered some minor injuries and after some pain relief and TLC he stretched his wings and was sent on his merry way 🐥💞
Spring has sprung! 🌸 While we all enjoy the blooming beauty, remember that some plants like lilies can be toxic to pets. Keep your garden pet-friendly and safe this season.
Here's a blast from the past - with Erin (now Dr Erin) a vet student pre-starting with TSV and Dr Megan reminding us of the things to look out for in our gardens.

Over 7 years ago we filmed our brand-new clinic with family and friends’ actors and actresses both two- and four-legged kind.
Our promise
At The Strand Veterinarian, our commitment is to treat you, your animal companion, and the special bond between you with compassion, empathy and respect. We promise to love, care for and manage your animal through every stage of his or her life.
Zoe (Megan’s niece) and Honey (Sarah Cruickshank Vet Physio’s Greyhound) were the stars of the show leading us through the clinic, showing off our world class environment with a behind the scenes look through a child and special animal companions’ eyes.
We were planning a rerun as Zoe is now about to hit secondary school and Honey starting to show her age ….how cool would that be? But then tragedy struck. One of the hardest things about caring for animals and having them as our dearest companions and friends is they have short but happy lives.
Recently Dr Vanessa Johnson had the tough job of telling long-time TSV friend and vet physio Sarah the difficult news, Honey had a bony lesion on radiographs consistent with cancer. With the help of both referral hospitals Veterinary Specialists Aotearoa surgeons Dr Richard Jerram and Dr Kyle Clark – and now working with VSA Internal Medicine team and Oncologist from Animal Referral Centre Dr Patrick Smith Honey is up and walking and doing well.
We thought we would share Sarah and her story of how professional and family support can change a life and send her healing thoughts as part of our care giving community.

Doctor Alley's Cat Corner - Week 2
This week we're going to talk about cats superpower and that is being an absolute master of disguise.
Last week Megan, Shelley, Sophie, and Jenna - our elected delegates - attended the first combined NZVA NZVNA conference since Covid. Connecting with a class of world-class speakers, workshopping the future of the industry, and coming home to TSV brimming with the knowledge to help us care for our business and remain sustainable so we can serve our customers, our people, and above all the <3 beats at our feet. As an independently owned whanau-run clinic our founding philosophy has always been to grow and invest in our people. Catching up with Indie Vets NZ (private group) Billie and Purina New Zealand Katie Jones from TSV were extra bonuses, as well as our Vet Tech Margie finally receiving her NZVNA Vet Nurse of the Year Award :)
