As omnivorous creatures, the Cotton-Top Tamarins will consume a wide variety of food from fruits, leaves and nectar to insects, spiders, and eggs. Sophia and Raf love a bit of corn on the cobb! 🌽
Did you know when Cotton-Top Tamarins are scared or excited, their voluminous plume of white fur becomes raised in a effort to make themselves look bigger and more impressive! Aren't these wild 'punk-rockers' amazing! 🤘🥰

Did you know guinea pigs like to chat to each other? They communicate with different sounds!
They have a ‘wheek-wheek’ call which is a sign of excitement (or if they're looking for a friend), a low ‘purring’ sound, which they make when they are feeling content and, a series of short ‘putt-putt’ noises they make when exploring.

Animal encounters are back everyone and we are beyond thrilled 😆
Come along to our free daily encounters to see our animals either being fed or, interacting with our keepers! To kick things off, we have a butterfly release at 10:00am, an otter feeding at 11:30am, our very popular Crocodile feeding at 1:00pm and loads more!
Due to social distancing restrictions we cannot hold our tarantula, reptile or wētāpunga encounters but all others are safely able to operate 🎉

Nau mai ki Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori (Welcome to Māori Language week)! This week is we will be celebrating our indigenous language and sharing some words in Te Reo Māori with you all!
The short finned tuna (the Māori word for eels) are one of two native species of tuna to Aotearoa. These creatures are historically important to Māori and due to the loss of wetlands, the number of tuna are declining. Our whānau (family) of wild short finned tuna live freely in our wetlands and travel back out to the moana (sea) to reproduce toward the end of their lives.
