NO COOKED BONES

They may look and smell delicious to your pet, however if eaten they can cause damage all the way down, from breaking teeth to poking holes in the intestine, getting stuck and causing damage on the way out the other end! Ouch!

We don't want your dog to be cooked too!

🐾Anaesthesia🐾

At Manukau After Hours Veterinary Clinic we tailor the type of anaesthesia to your pet's individual needs. The vet will discuss this with you should your pet need a procedure with us that requires anaesthesia.

💉Injectable - A needle injects the anaesthetic drug into the body, the drug stops the nerves from working, slowing down the body and puts it into a state of unconsciousness.
👃Gas - Anaesthetic gas is inhaled and blocks the nerve signals in the body, temporarily placing the pet into a state of unconsciousness
😴Sedation - helps the pet relax and go into a drowsy sleeping state
👩‍🔬Local anaesthetic - temporarily reduces the sensation of pain in one specific area of the body, the information from the nerves in that area don't reach the brain so there is no 'feeling' in the area for the patient.

Back Sleeper: Does your dog sleep on their back, paws up in the air and belly exposed? It may be a sign that they feel safe and comfortable and allows them to cool off as there’s less hair on their belly so heat can escape.

Side Sleeper: A sign that your dog is relaxed, comfortable and is probably dreaming in REM sleep.

Curled up: They are trying to conserve warmth and feel safe and protected.

🐾Perks of the Job!🐾

A very kind person rescued a pregnant cat who needed medical attention because she had given birth to 1 kitten, however there were more that were not coming out! 😳 It turned out that 1 of these kittens was breech and the mother cat (only a kitten herself) was having trouble birthing her.

A c-section surgery was ordered stat and two adorable ginger kittens were birthed via c-section. One required further resuscitation but the team here did such a great job and the mother cat went home that night with 3 kittens 🐱🐱🐱 and one proud new owner 👩‍🍼

We wish them the best of health!

We are so glad this had a good outcome! However it highlights the importance of desexing and the risks involved with kittens having kittens, especially when they are stray or wild and have no access to medical treatment if required. This mother cat and kittens was very lucky to have been rescued in the nick of time.❤🐾

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Thank you Otis!!

Otis the brave was in clinic over the weekend to donate some fresh blood for a transfusion to save another patient.

One of our wonderful veterinary nurses owns Otis and he was in the right place at the right time. A gentle sedation and we are able to collect enough blood to give to our recipient patient

Thank you Otis and Sophie - we love you Otis, you are a hero 💕🐶🩸
