UPDATE TIME!!

Well I finally get a chance to sit down and write an update! We have been so busy!

Firstly let me just remind you all that the gorgeous Rosie is still available for adoption. She will require an experienced owner as she has a lot to learn but she is coming on leaps and bounds thanks to the amazing team at K9 Heaven!

Vegas:
The handsome old boy Vegas is all healed from his cruciate surgery and he headed off to his new home a few weeks ago. His Dad has adopted twice from us before so we know he is in great hands and he loves his rescue sister Kala. He also loves showing his butt to the camera 🤣

Bella:
Beautiful Bella was recently desexed along with her entropion surgery and is healing well.
Last Sunday I drove her to Taupo to meet her new Dad part way. Her new family fell in love as soon as they saw her profile and as they had already adopted one of the 11 pups they were pre-approved. Blue absolutely loves his new sister although she is a bit out of sorts after so many big changes. Blue is doing his best to comfort her and with her new families love she is starting to settle 🥰 Nice work!

Prince:
Prince is such a hunk and his new sister Poppy thought so too. Poppy is one of our rescues (Jojo's Mum) and the family fell in love at the meet and greet. They wanted him then and there and as another pre-approved family he was bundled in the van and away he went straight away. I'll be off to the Waikato to do his follow up check tomorrow! 😊

Don't forget we have the Pet Expo coming up on 21-22 September and we would love to meet you all. We will be in our usual spot opposite the farmyard at the far end of the pavilion. We will have all your favourite goodies to buy and yes we have EFTPOS!

WHY DO FOSTERS FOSTER?

(Aside from the fact we are suckers for these big teddy bears – and we can!)

We can’t commit to owning a dog for the 10+ years we could have them – maybe the plan is to move overseas or what have you – but you’d love some companionship and some doggie cuddles.

Maybe you are on sabbatical and will be home for a while – get companionship, make sure you go for a walk and get fresh air (Did you know dog owners are typically healthier than non-dog owners?)

Maybe you’re just not ready yet to have another dog permanently – at least not yet.

THE PATH TO BECOMING A FOSTER
Fostering is a BIG decision that involves the whole family to be on board; but fostering is rewarding and saving the life of a dog who might have otherwise not received a second chance is the cherry 🍒 on the top!

Five simple steps to becoming a Foster Parent:
1️⃣ YOU fill in the foster application form!
2️⃣ WE review the form ie: experiences with other dogs, do you have pets at home, regular contact with children, elderly.
3️⃣ WE make contact; so make sure you have let us know what’s the best way of contacting YOU!
4️⃣ WE also try to get to know YOU and YOUR property ie:
⭐Is your place fully fenced (no gaps/good height all round?).
⭐Where can the dog go to the toilet?
⭐What’s the plan for looking after the animal - do you have a way of dealing with things if you are at work or away for longer than 3-4hrs?
⭐WHAT’s the best way/time to introduce you to a foster dog?
5️⃣ IF all looks OK we put you on our foster list!

Meet Chook!

Charlie (aka Chook) is a gorgeous 6 yr old female who is just the biggest snuggle bug ever!

Age – 6 years
Location – Waikato
S*x – Female
Kids - Yes - dog savvy
Dogs – Yes
Cats – Yes
Livestock--Potentially (was nicknamed Chook cos as a youngster she hung around with the chooks)

This gorgeous girl comes from a loving family who are finding this surrender a bitter pill to swallow. However with a change in circumstances and working very long hours they want her to have a better life than they feel they can offer,

Chook loves going for walks, she will race you to the gate. She loves going in the car and is very obedient and understands hand signals so you don't have to say anything. She is toilet trained and currently lives with a little dog. Her only dislike is when another dog rushers at her.

Ideally her new family will have someone home most of the time and she will be allowed to be inside as part of the family.

You MUST be securely fenced! No negotiations on that score and we will do a property inspection.

Rosie came in to rescue severely emaciated and has been healing so well, both mentally and physically.
She is ready to find her forever family!!

“Rosie has had a rough start to life but you honestly couldn’t tell, she’s super sweet. She loves a good snuggle and attention, a real cuddly lady.
Rosie will need time and training to help her understand the outside world. Great with other doggies but still learning normal dog behaviour and how to play. Could maybe thrive with an older boy dog, NO CATS. Rosie is very good at waiting for her food until she’s told it’s okay - won’t touch it otherwise, she’s very food motivated and will earn her food, can be quite food reactive with other dogs around.

She still has some issues with mouthing peoples hands as she’s still quite young and learning.
Sleeps crated at night time and doing great in there.”

We are currently getting at least 2-3++ surrender enquiries a DAY!! It's just gone crazy and we are having to say no as we just don't have the space.

We understand with the cost of living crisis people are surrendering their dogs left right and centre. Pounds, rescues and SPCA are overflowing and sadly dogs are being euthanised as no one wants them.

Support for us has gone down with authorities and other sponsors as everyone is tightening their belts. We get NO grants, NO Government support, NO funding. Yes, yes, yes you read that right! Sweet Bella has been brought up on a farm and good with livestock, dogs, cats and kittens, kids (living with 6 of them ranging in age)! Loves car rides and playing in shallow water. Oh and must go to a home that will lavish LOTS of love and cuddles on her and let her be an inside dog as she wants nothing but to be part of the family at all times.
Ideally she will go with a male dog for companionship, with a semi-rural/rural lifestyle (think she will struggle in the city).
Bella is very food driven (she's on a diet after breaking into her food bag) and just loves attention, like lots of attention thank you!

Happy birthday to us!!!

Yes today is our birthday!
8yrs as a registered charity and just over 9yrs as a rescue. The idea came to fruition in May 2015 after my gorgeous Nan told me to just do it! I spent months doing my homework, creating standards and forms as though I was rehoming my own dog. I wanted to make sure that with our breed, and the poor reputation it has with those who don't understand them, that everything was done above board.

Fast forward 9yrs and we have rescued & rehomed hundreds of Rottweilers (as well as Labs, Pitties, EBT's and mixed breeds). Most of those dogs have sadly passed as they do over the years but the fact we have even changed one dogs life is amazing.
Bella was my sidekick for many years and the one who taught me so much. You were one of the best Bella Boo. Run free baby girl

Wow that last post has caused a s**t storm!

Oh well on to more happy things!!

Pleased to say our handsome boy Kaiser has gone on trial and so far is doing very well. He has two lovely sisters to keep him in check like us girls can do so well :) Stay on your best behaviour there Kaiser!

Roxie has been with us for a while looked after by the amazing team at K9 Heaven. We decided to put her into private foster to get her home ready and oops...she is a foster fail! Her new family have fallen for this gorgeous girl and her big brother Brock has finally approved and decided she can stay.

Vegas is still looking for his forever home so if you are interested please reach out to us. No cats but other dogs and kids over 8 are fine. He really is a big snuggle bug 🙂

Rosie our young chick is also still available and is learning manners well. We will have an update on her soon!

Bear is on hold at the moment due to a few issues we need to work on before rehoming. We have engaged a trainer and hopefully our handsome man will be up for adoption soon.

New boy Prince is about 4yrs old and once we have had him here a while and understand his needs we will pop him up for adoption.

UPDATE: We have NOT named anyone in this post yet someone has taken exception and has started slagging us off. There are way too many rescues popping up with things not been done properly. This post is a mere warning not designed to name and shame or cause a s**t fight!!!

Rottweiler Rescue in NZ--IMPORTANT SCAM ALERT 🤬

Times are tough at the moment and no one knows that more than we do right now. We have a record number of dogs being surrendered and donations and fosters are down massively.

What has come to our attention though is that someone has set up a fake small Rottie Rescue to feed and fund their own backyard breeding operation.

Begging for food, donations & toys etc by posting cute puppy photos claiming pregnant dog came in and gave birth. They even had the cheek to e-mail us asking for donations!!

We are the ONLY Rottweiler Rescue in NZ but from time to time other rescues rehome Rottweilers in their care.

PLEASE make sure you do your homework and due diligence on any rescue, including us, before you donate funds. Ensure you know their history, their practices, are they doing right by every dog that comes into their care? Is the money for the rescue dogs or for their own pockets?

Any rescue should be more than happy to tell you how their funds are spent and keep detailed records of finances and dogs in their care.

Lets hope people don't fall for these scams as with tough times we all need to ensure every penny we work so hard to earn is being spent wisely.
