So as we run a dog rescue you can quite comfortably say I love all animals.

Today as I was taking double trouble (Ruby & Jojo) to the park I saw a bird in the middle of the road. I thought it was dead so went to avoid it and as I looked down it looked up at me. S**t! Ok so up the road I go and turn around praying no one had hit it on the busy Hillsborough Rd!! I stop with hazard lights on to try and get the pigeon who then hops UNDER the ute! Great!

I crawl under the ute and get the bird safely in my hands--still alive! To the people who couldn't wait 2 mins and nearly hit me--nice work you idiots! To those who realised what was going on and slowed down, thank you!

I popped the bird near a lamp post safely away from traffic in the hope that it would be ok and fly off. An hour later after running the dogs I stopped to check and thought it was dead (so I would have a burial this arvo) but oh no, just snoozing.

So off to BirdCare Aotearoa . They are an amazing rescue who care for so many of our beautiful wild birds. If you can support them please do. They have an online shop to buy merchandise and they also have an awesome kids club as well! (Kotare Kids Club).

https://birdcareaotearoa.org.nz/get-involved/kids-club-membership/

Thanks to Zoe who got the bird quickly into a warm incubator. Lets hope our gorgeous pigeon makes it--he/she is certainly in the best hands. Thanks Bird Care team, keep up the great work!

WOW, it feels like Santa has come early for us and it couldn't be more needed right now!

HUGE thanks to both and the

Nature's Ki who are the distributors of Orijen and Acana have been big supporters of our rescue over the years and we are so humbled by their generosity.
Last week we had a pallet of much needed food arrive for the dogs in our care. We love the fact that we can give our dogs an awesome start with great nutrition which is important as most of the dogs we get have not had the best start in life. Thanks team you all rock. 😍

Today the lovely Shyanne dropped off so many goodies for us after their charity fundraiser at the Dog Den. The Dog Den is a doggy daycare in Takapuna and yes they have Rottie customers too!
Shyanne chose us which we are so humbled by. Our breed is often overlooked but once you know and love Rottweilers you know there is nothing to fear.
So thank you to everyone who donated cash (just over $100) and goodies to our cause, we truly appreciate it and the dogs in foster care will be over the moon when they receive their care packages!

Some items are sadly not suitable for the big dogs (i.e. the plush toys self destruct 🤣) so as we have no puppies in our care (I will regret that comment) we will share with our friends at Auckland Puppy Rescue

So thank you again for your kindness and generosity. It takes a village as they say and we certainly can't do it without everyone's support.

Much love from the Rottie Rescue team xx

Fantastic News!!

On Saturday our Foster Manager Paula and I went on road trip to Taupo. Why?

To take Rosie halfway to her new home! Yep our sweet girl has finally found what we are pretty sure is her forever home. Her new Mum fell for her sight unseen and it was love at first sight.

You'll remember Rosie came into rescue severely emaciated and spent time in foster with the awesome team at K9 Heaven 'The Country Club For Dogs' Auckland, NZ. She has come on leaps and bounds but was desperate for a home to call her own. Well she has finally found it!

Her Mum says:
"Rosie has slotted in great, honestly you would think she had been at home for ages. She sleeps on her bed beside me & stays there all night🙂"

Beach Trip: "It amazes me how much trust Rosie has in me in such a short time, she is my shadow She didn't want to get wet but as soon as I got in the water she was in there beside me."

I couldn't be happier but sad that she is so far away! Keep being the amazing dog we know you are beautiful girl.

Love you lots Rosie Posy and Jojo will miss his play friend.

Lucious Luther

Age – 2 years (approx.)
Location – Auckland
S*x – Male
Kids - Teenagers upwards
Dogs – Yes--similar size
Cats – NO
Livestock--Unknown but has come from a rural background

Meet Luther, a charming 2-year-old Rottweiler with a big head and even bigger heart!
Luther enjoys leisurely walks, and snuggling up for some quality couch time. He enjoys being touched all over so grooming is easy. He knows basic commands like “sit,” “come,” and is learning to lie down. Luther is a calm and sweet dog who adores people and gets along wonderfully with larger dogs.
He can get excited and a bit mouthy when greeting new people, but can be redirected to play a game of tug. Luther does get anxious around loud noises like fireworks so a quieter environment is ideal for him. He does have a tendency to chase cars (came from a farm), but he thrives in quieter areas and parks.

With his loving nature, Luther is sure to bring joy to any home.

Apply now or if you have an application form in with us please register your interest.

UPDATE Part 2 of 2

Well this update isn't all "unicorns and rainbows" as they say but so important.

The number of dogs coming in needing medical care/surgery etc is increasing and therefore so are our vet bills! However sometimes these can be avoided (that will be a separate post!)!

You will remember the gorgeous older boy Vegas who had his cruciate surgery and trotted happily to his new home? Well sadly the other leg has gone and as it's a new adoption and we knew there was a chance it would go we will be assisting with the second surgery costs as well. APPROX: $6.5k + 6.5k

We then had a beautiful girl Nala come in a month or so ago who we knew had one cruciate that needed doing...when in surgery they confirmed the other leg will need doing too 🙁 Luckily the old owner paid for the first surgery however we now have the added bill of a second surgery before she can be rehomed! APPROX: $6.5K

Then Luther needing entropion surgery and x-rays on his leg injury. $1.9k

Another dog who went on trial ended up with hot spots and that came in at nearly $600.

Then the rescue ute needed work so that's $2.3k

And all this is not counting the other smaller thing and is just in September!!

With all these dogs needing extra care our foster network is now blocked up meaning we are having to turn dogs away DAILY!

It's heartbreaking, it's not what we imagined we would have to do but without our own rescue centre we are reliant on the fosterers we have on board.

PLEASE if you can adopt, foster or donate don't hesitate...we need you all now more than ever!

UODATE - after 6 weeks lucky Star has finally found a great foster home!

Wow! How good is Star looking - thank you for everything you do Animal Services Hutt City

Star is available for adoption in Wellington or further afield to approved homes.

Star has been heading out on daily (weight-loss) adventures with one of our colleagues. She's such a happy-go-lucky girl who's still waiting on the right match. (Please read Star's full Bio before completing a JotForm) She's a loving girl needing a strong handler.

UPDATE TIME (Part 1 of 2)

Pour a drink or grab a cuppa—-it's gonna be a loooong one 🙂

Well the Pet Expo is done and dusted for another year. We LOVE catching up with everyone and talking about nothing but Rottweilers but geez it's exhausting for weeks leading up to and days after.

A HUGE thanks to our AMAZING team for putting on another fantastic stand that we are proud of year after year. We try and have more and more Rottie and dog products at amazing prices—cos lets face it dog ownership shouldn't be so expensive!

Because of how busy we have been I have failed, yet again, to update you all on the dogs in our care! So here goes......

*****
Rosie:
The gorgeous Rosie is STILL available for adoption...WHY??? She is amazing and for what she has been through she is so smart and learning so fast. Every time I take her out I'm blown away at how awesome she really is. Are you her forever family and Xmas miracle?
https://www.rottierescue.org.nz/project/rosie/

Luther:
When I dropped the gorgeous Bella part way in Taupo I also picked up a handsome 2yr old (approx) boy with no name. His foster parents have called him Luther and due to the raft of medical issues we needed to check out we didn't mention him until we knew what the outcome would be.
He's been desexed, had entropion surgery on both eyes (Entropion is an inversion or inward turning of the eyelid margin), had x-rays to his hips and had an injury to his front leg.
I'm pleased to say his eyes are looking sexier than ever, the leg is healing and he's learning manners. One hip on x-ray shows hip dysplasia however on natural meds he is doing so well and still bounces around like a pup. Great with other dogs and so smoochy—look at that face! Is he your baby?

Young Kaiser:
A pound dog that was unclaimed so he came to us with no name. The amazing team at K9 Heaven had been fostering him and there were multiple names thrown about. One of the K9 team showed her Dad and he fell in love—so the lovely boy (now Kaiser) is on trial and we hope it's a very happy ending for him 🙂

Chook:
The lovely Chook has landed on all four paws with a lovely family and has really made herself at home. She enjoys daily walks, hanging out with her Dad who works from home and adores her new Mum and human sister. I'll be off to do her follow up check tomorrow!

Surgeries!!
We have had a large number of dogs needing x-rays, bloods, surgeries and special diets. As you can imagine it's putting a HUGE strain on the team not only physically and emotionally but also financially.

So if you can support us please do—even a couple of dollars a week makes a huge difference to us! $5 or whatever you can afford!

Remember all donations over $5 are tax deductible and we can issue a donation receipt at the end of the financial year. It's easy to claim part of your annual donation back which is done online!

Your donation can either be done as a bill payment via your bank or through our secure website. Or buy a calendar for Xmas! That helps us too 🙂
