Our membership is dedicated to utilising & preserving the temperament and proud working heritage of European working breeds such as German Shepherds, Rottweilers, Dobermanns and Belgian Shepherds through the world wide sport of Schutzhund (also known as Dogsport)

Dogsport is an ideal means by which to demonstrate your dog's trainability, intelligence & utility. It offers breeders a rigorous means

to measures any potential breeding prospect’s genetic quality because this sport reveals a great deal about a working dog's mental stability, endurance, structural efficiencies, ability to scent, willingness to work and courage. Dogsport trials involve preparing the dog and handler for the “triathlon” of Tracking, Obedience and Protection exercises. This sport offers an opportunity for dog owners to train their dog & compete against each other for recognition of both the handler's ability as a trainer & the dog's ability to perform as required. It is a sport enjoyed by persons of varied professions, who join together in a camaraderie born of their common interest in training and competing with their dogs. A very successful training day with both the older and younger dogs coming to grips with new exercises. The young dogs were introduced to the swinging tug and targeting, while the older dogs were using the hurdle jump and dumbbell. Saira and Todd were experimenting with a piece of equipment to build drive and focus for the tracking article.
There is no training next Saturday 22nd February. The next training day at Mangere will be Saturday 1st March.

First day back training for 2025 and a good turnout of 8 dogs. New dog Mya made an impression with a high energy level. It will be interesting to watch her progress. Temperature is always an issue over the summer months and handlers need to be aware of their dog's temperature. As well as hosing their chest, a damp towel for them to lie on in your vehicle is also a good idea. A sun shield for your vehicle windscreen will also help. Happy training.

Here is Huxley on his way for a blind search and hoping that there is going to be a decoy in the blind. The momentum is building nicely as handlers are preparing for the trial in December. It looks like there will be a good number of new dogs doing BH and hopefully one or two IGP entries. There is no training at Mangere next Saturday 26th but we are back training of 2nd November.

For the past several months I have enjoyed a daily encounter between my 13 year old GSD and a small bird. Every morning when I let the dogs our of their kennel I give them a dog biscuit. Kaiyah goes to the same spot to eat the biscuit. This little dark bird has observed this pattern and moves in to eat the crumbs as soon as Kaiyah has finished eating. As you can see in the picture, Kaiyah knows that the bird is there and doesn't make any move to scare the bird off.
