(2)

Our membership is dedicated to utilising & preserving the temperament and proud working heritage of European working breeds such as German Shepherds, Rottweilers, Dobermanns and Belgian Shepherds through the world wide sport of Schutzhund (also known as Dogsport)

Dogsport is an ideal means by which to demonstrate your dog's trainability, intelligence & utility. It offers breeders a rigorous means

to measures any potential breeding prospect’s genetic quality because this sport reveals a great deal about a working dog's mental stability, endurance, structural efficiencies, ability to scent, willingness to work and courage. Dogsport trials involve preparing the dog and handler for the “triathlon” of Tracking, Obedience and Protection exercises. This sport offers an opportunity for dog owners to train their dog & compete against each other for recognition of both the handler's ability as a trainer & the dog's ability to perform as required. It is a sport enjoyed by persons of varied professions, who join together in a camaraderie born of their common interest in training and competing with their dogs. Please enjoy surfing our pages and if you’d like to learn more about this fascinating sport, please visit our contacts page and get in touch with one of our committee members or zone representatives.

Here is Huxley on his way for a blind search and hoping that there is going to be a decoy in the blind. The momentum is building nicely as handlers are preparing for the trial in December. It looks like there will be a good number of new dogs doing BH and hopefully one or two IGP entries. There is no training at Mangere next Saturday 26th but we are back training of 2nd November.

Not a big turnout and man was that wind a polar blast or a polar blast? Todd had to don his beanie and your scribe had to head home to defrost. It was cold and congratulations to those members who toughed it out. Training is on again Saturday 19th at Mangere.

With the Trial date set for Saturday 14th December, the focus is now on BH and IGP requirements. Members are teaming up to make sure that all of the individual elements are being covered. Training again next Saturday 12th October at Mangere. If you are planning to trial and you haven't downloaded a copy of the FCI Regulations, now is a good time. http://www.fci.be/en/Utility-Dogs-58.html Entrants in a Dogsport trial are expected to know the rules.

For the past several months I have enjoyed a daily encounter between my 13 year old GSD and a small bird. Every morning when I let the dogs our of their kennel I give them a dog biscuit. Kaiyah goes to the same spot to eat the biscuit. This little dark bird has observed this pattern and moves in to eat the crumbs as soon as Kaiyah has finished eating. As you can see in the picture, Kaiyah knows that the bird is there and doesn't make any move to scare the bird off.

How is it that the new boy is always the showoff? Two year old Zac is showing off his climbing skills. A small turnout but we were able to practice a number of trial skills (see album) and tracking is progressing nicely. Normal training next week Saturday 21st September.

Lazu an 18 week old enjoying some drive building and tug with Todd. Although, on reflection there isn't much need for drive building when you witness her enthusiasm for chasing birds around the training field. Not a big turnout at training but members are now focusing on what is required to prepare for the Trial scheduled for Saturday 14th December.

Good grief it's finally happened, orange cones have even spread to the training field. Hall Avenue was taken over by orange cones months ago but it was thought that two sets of gates would keep them from the training field. Several dogs were seen to run around the cones and get quite close to the cones, without any obvious negative effect. There is no training next Saturday 31st at Mangere, with the next training day being Saturday 7th September.

The rain coat tells the story of the training session but interestingly it was probably one of our better training sessions. There was a good turnout as members had come to attend the AGM, which was held prior to training. Congratulations to Todd Nancarrow, who was elected President and special thanks to Mikal who braved the rain to work all of the dogs in Protection. August is a 5 Saturday month so we get an extra training next week 27th August. See you next Saturday.

Lazu was definitely the star of the day. A good training session with 8 dogs and 1 pup in attendance. It was pleasing to see that the dogs which were introduced to the jumps last week, continued to make progress. Remember that next Saturday 17th August, we will be holding our AGM at 10:00 am at the Mangere grounds before training. Your timely attendance is required to ensure that we have a quorum. Normal training will be held at the conclusion of the meeting.

We had the hurdle jump and the A frame in use and the young dogs caught on really quickly. Pictured is Jess learning to walk down the A frame rather leaping off from the top. The young dogs are all advancing well and most should be ready of BH by the end of the year. We were missing a few regulars but it was nice have a visit from Mikal and Gabby and family.
Normal training next week Saturday 10th and remember that we will be holding our AGM the following Saturday 17th August at Mangere starting at 10:00 am. If you can't attend but want vote on a particular issue, you can give your proxy to a member who is going to attend.

It was a day of learning, rain and more learning, as pictured, even learning to get out of the rain. Good turn out, even with the rain, 7 dogs, 2 pups and one prospect. Tracking went particularly well with several dogs showing great potential. It was great to see everyone sharing and supporting one another and the dogs.
Unfortunately, we don't have the grounds next week 27th July so next training at Mangere will be Saturday 3rd August.
