Lumos has been with us for 5 months now and unfortunately - though sadly unsurprisingly - she has not received any expressions of interest 😿
For those who don’t already know, Lumos was our first adoption back in 2020 but through no fault of her own rather a change in circumstances, she was returned to our care in March.
Given the circumstances that resulted in
her return and from getting to know her again, we feel she will thrive best in a quiet home (adults only, or teen children will be OK) and one where she’ll have a set daily routine in place.
As we’ve gotten her resocialized in her time with us, we are confident she’ll be able to live with 1-2 cats of similar age (3+) as long as the time is taken to introduce them properly - we will provide guidance on how to do this.
Most importantly, her humans must be in a stable, settled living situation and home environment, committed to providing Lumos with the best care and all the love she deserves for her whole lifetime. The last thing we want is for her to be surrendered again.

Peppermint got cleared for discharge and has been reunited with her sister and foster friends ❤️🩹
She has been through a lot this weekend (read our previous post) so she‘s not back at 100% but her heart rate has returned to normal and she is her sweet, smoochy self again which is so great to see 💕
She underwent a comprehensive evaluation by a cardiologist today which included a full suite of tests - ECG, chest x-ray, ultrasound and bloods. It’s still most likely she has a heart condition but we don’t have a definitive diagnosis as yet. We’re hoping we will do when the full results are in plus she is due back for a recheck in 2 weeks.
The bill came to just under $3k which has been paid by 9 Lives Orphanage seeing as Peppermint is a foster. Thanks to those who popped us a donation so we can help cover some of this and pay for her ongoing treatment.
And thank you again to the Animal Referral Centre central team for looking after our girl ❤️

On Friday night, as we were closing up after our event session, we noticed our little foster Peppermint was not herself - she was withdrawn, looked uncomfortable, and of most concern: her breathing was quite laboured 🙀
After consultation with 9 Lives Orphanage, we brought her to Animal Referral Centre and she has been there ever since. After assessment, blood tests, x-rays, and an ultrasound, it is looking likely she has a heart condition, possibly something going on with her lungs too 😿 She’s stable now but has been on oxygen up until this morning and is currently on medication every 6 hours.
Her stay in emergency hospital all weekend is estimated to cost up to $7k, which is being covered by the rescue, but she will need further testing this coming week which we will be covering the cost for. We’d also like to help cover some of the bill from this weekend to support 9 Lives ❤️
