We operate as a social enterprise with 100% of proceeds going directly back to Purrs & Beans, contributing towards our cats’ care and operating costs of their home. We do not draw a wage from the business; in fact we pour in a lot of our own personal funds to keep things going. The cats in our care are like our children 💗 So imagine our surprise when we received notice from the SPCA that they were wanting to do a welfare check as they had received a complaint from a member of the public who was concerned about our cats’ health. SPCA welfare inspectors have come through the premises, assessed the cats, reviewed our processes and protocols, and left with no concerns for our cats’ welfare. This outcome was what we expected as welfare is at the heart of everything that we do. How the space and sessions are set up, the rules we have in place, even what cleaning products we use, have the cats’ wellbeing in mind. We pride ourselves in being extremely welfare focused and would challenge anyone to say otherwise. To the person who called the SPCA, if you happen to read this, we welcome you to come and talk to us. We are approachable people. This goes to anyone else who may have concerns too. Purrs & Beans is run by just us two with the support of one long term staff member. We wear all the hats - we are here when you visit, we make your coffees, we fulfil your online shop orders, we do the admin, and everything in between. Engaging in daily play with your cat not only helps them channel and release this energy in a more positive way but also strengthens your bond 💞 When playing, it’s important that you’re fully engaged!
