Hanging out with the gorgeous Betty today 🐾🥰 Betty is a medium sized Terrier X looking for her forever family. She's a little shy at first but once she knows you, she's very social and playful. She also loves to play with other dogs. I tried taking some of those cool photos of dogs trying to catch treats ..turns out that's harder than it seems 😅 Oh well, Betty had fun!

Another gorgeous SPCA pup looking for a family 🥰 Sylvie loves to play but is also equally happy to chill and cuddle. She's finding life at the shelter very challenging and we'd love to see her settled with a foster or even humans of her very own 🤞🤞

Remember SPCA pup Fred? He's still patiently waiting for his ticket outta there 😌 but we and DOGlife NZ spent some time with him today, continuing to work on his ability to stay calm around other dogs. He honestly didn't put a foot wrong today, he was such a good boy 🥰🐾

Great opportunity for a unique dog walk at the sculpture park in Clevedon, tomorrow only 😊🐾

Autumn doggy open day this Sunday 5th May 10am-4pm.

For the first time is having a dog friendly day. Bring your four legged friend for a self guided walk of the sculpture park amongst the beautiful autumn colours. Adults $15, 5-18 years $10, children under 5 years and dogs free. Trail maps provided.

Dogs must be on a least at ALL times.
People are also welcome to attend if they don’t have a dog.

Foster desperately needed! Let us introduce Fred 🥰
He's a handsome lovable rogue looking for a couch to hang on while waiting for his forever home ❤️

Here's what we love about Fred the most...

✅ Cheeky sense of humour and always has us laughing at his antics
✅ Love of training AND humans, he's a real social butterfly
✅ Handsome face 😁
✅We've taken Fred on a couple of field trips and he's been totally unphased by the world, taking it all in his stride.

While Fred is just the coolest pup (7 ish months) he's also struggling in the shelter environment. He isn't getting the regular, controlled exposure to other dogs that he needs. While we have seen improvement in that he can easily stay focused around calm dogs in close proximity, he hasn't yet learnt to stay calm around young, energetic dogs. We totally believe this is achievable for him, but his best shot is going to be in a home, rather then a shelter environment.

We see so much potential in this dog and are desperately hoping to get him out to foster, can you help? 🤞🤞

This very tragic incident occurred at a local walking spot where Paula and I have walked our dogs many times. We felt it was important to share this story in the hope of raising awareness amongst dog owners. We cannot fathom the distress this poor lady is going through having to watch her elderly dog be mauled by a group of dogs being walked by a 'trainer'.
Please, if you are sending your dog out with a dog walker or trainer, do a thorough background check on them. Ask every question you can think of, including how many dogs will be taken in each group and how they will be controlled if they come across a member of the public walking their own dog.
If you come across a pack walker with a large group of dogs, as calmly as you can, move your dog away to create distance and do not engage with the walker or their dogs.
This incident has not only had tragic consequences for the poor dog that died. The owners of the dogs that killed her will also be reeling and their future will now be uncertain as this is being dealt with by animal control.
What a sad and avoidable thing to happen.
