Jenna – Veterinary Nurse in Kumeu

Jenna joined the Vets North Kumeu Team in 2023, like most in the industry it was her passion for animals that drew her to Vet Nursing and she has been lucky to build a fulfilling career around her love for animals.

Since earning her Diploma in 2020, Jenna enjoys the hands-on nature of her work along with the variety of challenges and rewards that come with working in a vet practice. She places great importance on reducing stress for her patients, whether it’s offering a comforting lap or a few extra cuddlesβ€”small gestures that can make a big difference in a hospital setting.

Jenna began teaching puppy preschool classes five years ago, pursuing her passion for canine behaviour. Teaching puppy preschool allows Jenna to connect with both pets and their owners and its clear puppy parents value her patient, compassionate approach.

We also love that Jenna is a bird enthusiast and has rescued a number of wild birds over the years, which choose to call her place their home. Jenna has a four year old skewbald named Zulu and a handsome Doberman named Kobe who thrives off training with her.

Jenna’s kind nature shines through in everything she does, whether it’s caring for animals or offering advice to new puppy parents, we are so lucky to have her!

Dr Jess Slattery – Veterinarian

Have you missed this face? Our wonderful vet Jess is back on board since taking time off to be with her gorgeous daughter Hallie, who is nearly 10 months. Jess has jumped back into the roster for 2025 and is ready to help you with your horsey health care needs.

Jess began her animal health career as a Veterinary Technologist, graduating in 2015 before going on to study Veterinary Medicine at Massey University. Jess joined Vets North in 2019 in a mixed vet role covering both farm and equine. Now based in Kumeu and primarily practicing as an Equine Vet, Jess’ skillset has expanded allowing her to provide expert care ranging from diagnostics including gastroscoping to surgery and equine breeding. Jess enjoys being able to work outdoors and provide gold standard care to her equine clients so they can get the best out of their horses.

A keen equestrian herself, Jess has a lovely chestnut gelding named Rusty, an elderly gentleman who she enjoys riding and competing for pleasure. At home, her and Nick have two Catahoula Leopard dogs named Koda and Echo who are incredibly handsome and a feisty rescue cat named Wendy.

Dr Keren Fraser – Veterinarian in Waimauku

Keren joined Kumeu Vet Services in 2014 before it merged with Helensville to form Vets North. Earlier on she spent a couple of years in the UK travelling before returning home to complete her vet degree. Upon graduating from Massey University in 2006 Keren returned to the UK for another few years to work and travel.

A former resident of the Kumeu clinic, Keren has been practicing out of Waimauku in recent years, where she has an established clientele. Many of Kerens clients like her kind and empathetic, yet practical approach. Her skills as a veterinarian go beyond the consult room and surgery, she is also a competent ultra-sonographer. Wounds and soft tissue surgery are high on Kerens list of cases she enjoys seeing in practice. Keren has a one eyed Burmese cat named Skye, who features on our cattery VIP wall. Thanks to Keren our cattery guests all receive VIP care, if there is ever concern about a guests wellbeing she will kindly stop in to check on them.

Outside of work Keren has a knack for design, renovation and is very knowledgeable on all things DIY. In 2020, Keren, her partner Pete and son Jamie sold their 110 year old villa in Eden Terrace that they had spent a number of years renovating, only to purchase in Waimauku and kickstart their next project. Last summer Keren took on the mammoth task of painting the house exterior herself.. what can we say, she is a high achiever.

Rachel – Silverdale Veterinary Nurse

In 2019 Rachel decided to study Veterinary nursing and completed her student hours with Vets North. She won us over with her incredible work ethic, desire to learn and her delicious baking was a bonus.

Since 2021 Rachel has been working in our Silverdale branch complimenting their dynamic team with her skillset. Rachel is highly organised and has a keen eye for detail. She is meticulous in her work and holds herself and others to a high standard. With a keen interest in all areas of nursing, Rachel enjoys learning from those around her, adding to her nursing toolkit.

You can thank Rachel for bringing a homely touch to the clinic with fresh flowers from her garden, currently on display are her Dahlias.

Living on a lifestyle block in Wainui with her family of five and their sheep, two kune kune pigs and runner ducks. Rachel shares her home and name with her rescue cat, yes, her name is also Rachel. When at home Rachel is an avid gardener and talented seamstress. She also enjoys a weights session at the gym and hunting for vintage treasures at the op shop.

Amber – Kumeu Team Leader & Equine Admin Superstar

Amber joined Vets North in April 2022, deciding on a change in career in an environment which supported her passion for all things equine. Having travelled Europe for 4 years as an international groom she has a wealth of knowledge in every equine related field and has been such an asset to the team in Kumeu.

Since joining Vets North, Amber has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to her team and a deep understanding of the importance of teamwork in a fast-paced veterinary environment. Her positivity has fostered a supportive culture where each team member feels valued and empowered. The team has thrived under her guidance in providing exceptional customer service to our small animal and equine clients. The reviews we receive back let us know every pet owner feels informed, supported, and confident in the care their animals receive.

Amber enjoys her horses for leisure riding and a way to wind down after a busy day. She will still head out to the show jumping ring though to support her friends in competition. Keen on all outdoorsy pursuits you may catch her mountain biking with her Huntaway Sally, camping, or hiking a new trail 🐾πŸ₯ΎπŸŒ²
