More great feedback from a customer in Canada :D Really great to see the collar covers are making a postive impact all around the world!

"This is my second order as the original worked great. Our male cat Loki is an incredible hunter, but I hated when he caught birds:( Wore this collar all this past summer and never brought home a single bird!Still caught plenty of mice, which is what we want him to do on our rural property."

"Best thing I’ve ever bought! My cat looks adorable, he seems to find it really comfortable (more comfy than his collar without it, I think it must be nice and soft against his neck) and he hasn’t caught a bird yet!"

Sarah from Australia recently purchased the rainbow Bird Warning Collar Cover for her farm cat. Here is what she had to say in her Etsy review:

"We live on a rural property and our farm cat who we got to keep away vermin was ignoring them and killing at least one bird a day. We thought we would have to rehome her to a friend with an enclosure but thought we would try this first. I am so happy to say we have not had one bird casualty since the cat has been wearing this on her collar. The beautiful rosellas and parrots have returned to our trees and I haven’t seen any vermin since as she has now refocused her attention on them. Highly recommend this for anyone with a cat, should be compulsory!"

Thanks Sarah, I'm pleased the collar cover is working well for you!

Why I started Protected Wings

“How to stop my cat killing birds” ….. This was a sentence I googled many times since adopting my first cat five years ago.

My cat Abbey is a killing machine. She is a very loving girl and every day she would bring me the gift of a dead bird (sometimes alive). It didn’t matter that she was bright white and had four bells on her collar, she was clearly an advanced hunter.

As an animal lover, it was extremely hard to witness the pointless death of these birds due to my well fed cat. As a zoology student, I was guilt stricken to learn how severely our beloved furry family members are destroying our native bird population. As I was living/studying in Dunedin, in a lecture I discovered that our town was a sinking hole for the fantail population. Fantails have been one of my favourite types of birds since I was a child. Forest and Bird estimate that New Zealand's cats collectively kill 1.12 million native birds per year.

After desperately researching how to make my cat’s hunting unsuccessful. I learned that research shows a significant reduction in birds caught by cats wearing a bright “scrunchy” type of collar. At first I was sceptical because my cat is already bright white. I believed she would already stand out to birds so this collar won't make a difference. But out of desperation I decided to try it anyway.
