Hi everyone. It's Dr. Jolin, and I hate doing posts like this as I would rather be spending time with my family on the weekend. But, times are tough and I am in a ranty, oversharing mood.

Yesterday, my staff suspected a client stole a flea treatment for her cat while waiting for us to bring him out from the back after surgery. This was confirmed after we checked our CCTV footage when we had a free moment after she had left. We have her details on file, so we contacted her and gave her the chance to return the product today, and we would try to find some expired product for the sake of her cat. She even texted saying she felt bad and would return. Surprise, surprise, she didn't show today.

I know times are tough. While I am no longer in Auckland, I still solely own Lynfield Vets, while working in my low-cost desexing clinic in Whangarei. Some will know the current Lynfield Vets started out in the empty premises back in 2018 when my son was just 6 months old. I worked sole charge 6 days a week for 18 months, building up from a client base of zero before I could get in more vets. The clinic survived through COVID, though my relationship with my long-term partner did not. While I am happily with someone new and have a 1-year-old, I get it—everyone has stuff going on in their lives. Regardless, I have tried my best to keep my prices affordable for my clients while trying to maintain quality care for your pets. I am proud of the businesses I have built and thankful for all my amazing staff and clients.

Late last year, we were broken into, and the police didn't even manage to find the burglar. Yes, there is insurance, but unexpected excesses cost money too, and take time... these things take so much time. Stating the obvious, I still need to pay my wonderful staff every week and rent, utilities, and wholesalers every month—not to forget taxes too, regardless of when these things happen. Scrolling through CCTV footage watching people steal from you is a heartbreak on repeat.

So, end of rant.

Don't be like this person or the other do**he who broke into our clinic last year.

Much love ❤️

Today is a sad day as we bid farewell to Julie, our OG Lynfield Vets receptionist, who is retiring after many years in the industry. Many of you will know Julie from the years she worked at the previous clinic that tenanted the premises. She was so passionate about her job that she tracked me down to have her old receptionist job back when we were first opening. She remembered clients who she hadn't seen for over a year and also remembered their pet's names and family like they were friends. And that's what she was, a great friend to all, whether it be greeting a new furry family member or giving a hug during the sadder visits to the clinic. We are lucky to have had you as a part of our clinic family.

Please comment below to wish her well on her well-deserved retirement 💜

🌧️⛈️ ☂️💨 Don't let the stormy weather catch you off guard! Here's a paw-some guide to ensure their safety before, during, and after heavy rain and storms:

🌧️ Before 🌧️
- Secure outdoor shelters or bring your pets inside to keep them safe from strong winds and rain.

- Double-check that your pet's ID tags are securely fastened and that their microchip information is current, providing a lifeline if they wander off during the chaos.

-Prepare an emergency kit with essentials like food, water, medications, and first aid supplies.

🌧️ During 🌧️
- Keep your pets indoors during the storm to prevent them from getting scared or injured.

- Create a safe space in your home where your pets can feel comfortable and secure.

- Stay updated on weather alerts and have a plan in place in case of evacuation.

🌧️ After 🌧️
- Inspect your yard for any hazards or debris that could harm your pets before letting them outside.

- Exercise caution during walks, steering clear of puddles, fallen branches, or potentially dangerous obstacles.

- Monitor your pets for any signs of stress or injury and seek veterinary care if needed.

☀️ Remember, our furry friends rely on us to keep them safe, especially during unpredictable weather. Let's stand by them with preparedness and love! ❤️🐶🐱🐰🐹🐭🐾

🚨🐾 Attention Pet Parents: As Easter approaches, it's crucial to be mindful of our furry friends' safety! 🐶🐱🐰 While chocolate eggs might be a delightful treat for us, they pose a serious threat to our beloved pets. 🍫🚫

🐾 Chocolate contains theobromine and caffeine, which are toxic to dogs and cats. Even small amounts can lead to symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, rapid breathing, and even seizures. 🚑🐾

🚫 Keep all Easter chocolate eggs and candies out of reach of curious paws and noses. Remember, the wrappers can also pose a choking hazard. 🍬✋

💡 Opt for pet-friendly Easter treats or toys instead! Share the love and joy of the holiday with your furry companions in safe and healthy ways. 🐾❤️

Spread the word to keep our fur babies happy and healthy this Easter! 🐣🌷

📢 **IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT VACCINES AND PARVOVIRUS** 📢

In light of recent discussions, we want to address concerns raised by some regarding vaccines and their role in the current parvovirus outbreak. We appreciate open dialogue and are committed to providing accurate information to ensure the well-being of our pets.

🔍 **VACCINE FACTS:**
We follow the guidelines set by the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) for vaccination schedules. Attached are screenshots of the WSAVA vaccine guidelines for your reference. https://wsava.org/global-guidelines/vaccination-guidelines/

💡 **WHY VACCINATE?**
Vaccines are a crucial defense against preventable diseases like parvovirus. They stimulate the immune system to recognize and fight specific viruses, protecting pets and preventing the spread of diseases.

📚 **LEARN MORE:**
For additional information about Parvovirus, we recommend visiting the Zoetis Parvovirus Information Page: https://www2.zoetis.co.nz/products-solutions/dogs/canine-parvovirus

🚫 **DISPELLING MISINFORMATION:**
Contrary to some comments, vaccines do not spread diseases. Instead, they are pivotal in creating immunity and reducing the prevalence of infectious diseases within the pet community.

Your pet's health is our top priority, and we encourage responsible vaccination to safeguard them and others. If you have further questions, feel free to reach out or consult with our veterinary team.

🚨 URGENT NOTICE 🚨

It is with deep concern that we inform you of a significant parvovirus outbreak in Auckland, with six confirmed cases reported today. To safeguard the well-being of our beloved pets, your collaboration during this critical period is essential.

Recognising the common symptoms of severe vomiting, profuse, often bloody diarrhea, and lethargy is vital. If you observe any of these signs, please remain in your car upon arrival and promptly inform us.

Importantly, parvovirus is preventable through vaccination. Starting at $70 for puppies and $75 for adults, our vaccination services are a key defense against this potentially devastating disease. Ensuring your pets are up-to-date on vaccinations is not just a precaution; it's a commitment to their long-term health and happiness.

For clients with symptomatic dogs, please note that a minimum deposit of $150 is now required to cover the consultation and parvo test—critical for early detection and treatment.

We share with you a picture of Aree, one of our outpatients today. With her owners' consent, we aim to raise awareness. She is receiving subcutaneous fluids, and injectable pain relief, antinausea and antibiotics. We do not know if she will survive this.

It's crucial to mention that, currently, we don't have quarantine facilities to accommodate intensive care of these cases. Therefore, we can only treat parvovirus cases as outpatients to prevent spreading the virus to our vulnerable patients who also come to see us.

If you have any questions or concerns, please call us or email us.
