This handsome came to the Bucklands Beach Vets a few weeks ago because he ate something that got stuck in his intestine! Now he’s not the only one, we have had a lot of cases in these past few weeks of eating socks, toys, medications, rat bait, toxic foods and poisonous plants such as Lillies and cherry blossoms. So this is your friendly reminder to double check what’s around the house that’s either toxic/poisonous or too small to be left out that dogs or cats may strangely find delicious!

We appreciate all the support and referrals we receive from our associates, and professionals in the animal training and vet care industry. We simply couldn’t do it without you.

In April, we ran a competition within Vet Clinics, and the clinic who made the most successful referrals to Kiwi Vet Behaviour won a prize.

The winner chose between a Pizza Party, or a Mentor Session. Congratulations to our friends at Bucklands Beach Veterinary Clinic for taking out the prize with 12 referrals over a 3-week period. Dr Jess Beer popped in today to deliver pizza to the team.

We are excited to announce that we have a new vet joining our awesome team at Bucklands Beach Vets this week. Dr Ann Koo graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science from Massey University in 2020. Ann is joining us from Palmerston North where she has worked since qualifying. Ann has a special interest in surgery, imaging and dentistry. Ann also loves the variety that comes with GP work.

Ann is fluent in Korean which will be of a great assistance to our Korean speaking clients.

Sadly, we have had to say goodbye to one of our wonderful vets, Dr Lianne Mellin. Lianne is heading off to Europe on her OE (Overseas Experience). She will be missed by all of the staff, the clients and their pets.

Thankyou Lianne, for all of your hard work, commitment and care of all of your patients.

We hope you will be back one day to work with us again.

Bon voyage and good luck!

As with other essential professions, there's currently a global shortage of veterinarians. (And this is not a temporary problem - it's been building for years).

This means most veterinary teams are going above and beyond, putting in extra hours and effort to ensure every pet receives the care they need.

On behalf of vets everywhere, we're asking for the public's support. Please tell your veterinary team how much you appreciate them, and encourage your friends to do the same. Your kindness will go a long way.

And for more ways to show your support, visit yourvetcares.com

Saturday 27th April is World Veterinary Day
It is a day for us to celebrate all the hard work, dedication, and compassion that vets bring to ensure the health and well-being of pets.

The day is to raise awareness of the vital role that they play as essential workers. Vets don’t just take care of animals. They take care of people too. They often need to have tough conversations with pet parents about the health of their pets. Pet owners can be highly emotional when they go to the vet, especially if their beloved pet is sick. Stress, anxiety, fear, and even anger are just some of the human emotions that our vets have to navigate on a daily basis. They do so by keeping a calm demeanour and ensuring to put your pet’s best interests first.

Vets need to have a wide range of skills to look after your pet. Vets in clinical practice need to be a GP, a surgeon, a radiologist, a dentist, a pharmacist, a cytologist, a phlebotomist, a counsellor and more.

At Bucklands Beach Vets we have six vets, Iain, Lianne, Joanne, Anna, Eva & Debbie who all work hard to look after both our clients and their pets. We also have nine amazing nurses who work in surgery, the hospital, the consult room & reception, who are also essential to patient care. Our days can be long, busy and stressful. Cases can be challenging and emotional at times.

Please be kind in your interactions with us all, as we too are only human & we always have your pets best interests at heart. Your appreciation and thanks are always much appreciated 🙂.
