As our well-welcome Summer 🌞 approaches, our teams just want to remind all pet owners to be aware of the affects on our fur family and the various tips to keep them safe this summer 🦮🐩🐕

🗣️As the heat continues to ramp up here are some quick tips for keeping your best friend 🐕cool and safe 💦 this summer ☀️

* Regular access to a paddling/kids pool to cool off in the heat of the day.

* Add ice or frozen peas to their water through the day to encourage them to drink and keep it cool 😎

* Prevent walking in the midst of the day, avoiding the hottest times and walking on the concrete.

* If you have to leave your dog in the car for errands do not take them with you. The heat increases during hot days, atleast doubling the temperature in enclosed cars. They will be cooler at home 🏡 and safer.

* Offering lots of shade to avoid the suns rays, remember your pets get sunburnt too 🙌

As we enter 💥 firework season 💥 here are some top tips to keep your pet calm!

1. Provide a den/hiding place for your pet ⛺️

2. Keep your pets indoors - close any windows, cat flaps, doors and curtains/blinds to reduce noise levels and minimise any chance of escape! 🪟

3. Provide lots of distractions such as tv and music playing in background, licki mats, puzzle toys etc. 🦴

4. Use adaptil and feliway diffusers - particularly near their hiding place or where your pet spends most of their time! 😌

5. Try not to leave your pet home alone to reduce stress levels 🩵

6. Provide plenty of water and litter for cats being kept inside! 💧

7. Talk to your vet about the best options for your pet if they suffer from anxiety around the silly season, sometimes medications may help! 👩🏻‍⚕️

8. Make sure your pets are microchipped and details are up to date should they escape! 📞

🐦✨ Fledgling season is here! 🐦✨

Did you know that young birds, or fledglings, are often seen hopping around your yard this time of year? These little ones are just starting to learn how to fly, and while they may look lost, they’re usually not in any danger! Here are a few tips to help them out:

-Observe from a Distance: Keep an eye on them but give them space. Mom and Dad are often nearby, watching over their little ones.

-Don’t Rush to Rescue: Fledglings typically leave the nest before they can fly well, so they’re learning on the job!

-Keep Pets Indoors: If you have pets, consider keeping them inside to ensure the fledglings stay safe.

If you see a fledgling that seems injured or in distress, feel free to contact us for guidance!

Albany have recently started using a K-Laser on some of our patients. Lasers are used to promote healing, blood flow and reduce inflammation. Even clinic pets aren't immune to the dramas of being a dog. The lovely Diesel (owned by Karen @ Albany) has been under the knife recently to remove some nasty lumps. If you see him around please give him extra pats and don't laugh at all his bald spots. If you are concerned about lumps on your pet, please give us a call so we can check them and take a sample.

Did you know that Albany has a referral surgeon that does fancy orthopedic surgeries as well as other technical procedures. Your GP practice can arrange referral to Albany if it's ever needed and please feel free to ask if you ever need anything.
