๐ŸŒฟ Why You Donโ€™t Need to Remove Scabs When Treating Mud Fever with EquineCare Probiotic Spray ๐ŸŒฟ

With our probiotic topical spray, thereโ€™s no need to remove scabs while treating mud fever. The probiotics work naturally to restore a healthy microbiome on the skin's surface, reducing harmful bacteria and calming inflammation. This allows the skin to heal gently and effectively without disturbing the protective scabs.

In fact, removing scabs can slow healing by exposing raw skin to new infections. Instead, leave them intact! Tiny gaps in the scab and the surrounding skin allow the probiotics to work their way to the underlying tissue, where they help balance the microbiome, reduce harmful bacteria, and support the skinโ€™s natural healing process. Additionally, the scab itself provides a stable environment that can retain the probiotics and their beneficial effects longer.

EquineCare Probiotic Spray promotes healing while minimizing irritationโ€”because sometimes, nature does it best! ๐ŸŒฑ

Ever wonder how probiotics work their magic? ๐Ÿค”There are several processes at work.

Occupation: The good bugs take up space so bad bugs donโ€™t have anywhere to grow. ๐Ÿšซ
Predation: The good bugs eat the bad ones. This happens naturally, but adding more good bugs speeds up the process. ๐Ÿฆ โžก๏ธ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ
Quorum Sensing: Itโ€™s a numbers gameโ€”when there are enough good bugs, the bad bugs realize theyโ€™re outnumbered and stop causing trouble. ๐Ÿ‘
Itโ€™s all about tipping the balance in favor of the good guys! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿพ

Using EquineCare Probiotic Topical Spray on minor rubbed raw areas and minor wounds can promote healing and help prevent infection. The probiotics in our spray support the natural microbial balance on the skin, which may reduce inflammation and speed up the healing process. Additionally, our beneficial microbes compete with harmful bacteria, lowering the risk of infection in the affected area.

For raw or sensitive skin, initial applications of EquineCare Probiotic Topical Spray can sometimes cause mild stinging. To ease this, try diluting the spray 50/50 with water for the first couple of applications. After that, it should be comfortable to apply the spray undiluted.

"Tussock and his trusty sidekick Patchi were getting a lot of diversity in their grazing when they busted through the hot wire and into our bush block. Both of them were very pleased with themselves!

It's moments like these that remind us of the importance of supporting their gut health with EquineCare Gut pre and probiotics, especially when in paddocks with mainly single grass species. ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿด "

๐ŸŒฟ Say goodbye to itchiness! Applying a topical probiotic after insect bites can help soothe skin and promote healing. Harnessing the power of beneficial bacteria, it aids in calming irritation and supporting the skin's natural defenses.

Scratching can introduce undesirable bacteria, so let probiotics be your go-to for a clean and natural healing process.

Feeding gut prebiotics and probiotics to horses can significantly enhance their digestive health and overall well-being. These supplements help maintain a balanced gut microbiome, which is crucial for efficient digestion and nutrient absorption. Prebiotics serve as food for beneficial bacteria, promoting their growth, while probiotics introduce live beneficial bacteria to the gut.

Our topical spray is easy to use, simply spray on daily until symptoms clear up.

We all know how the weather in New Zealand can be unpredictable at times, particularly over the Spring and Autumn months. As the temperatures get warmer, itโ€™s important to be careful to avoid over-rugging. Early detection and treatment are essential to prevent rain scald from spreading and causing further discomfort to your horse. Regular grooming, keeping your horse dry, and using topical treatments such as EquineCare Probiotic Topical spray can help manage and prevent rain scald.

The first signs of rain scald include:
Small, matted tufts of hair, often with a greasy appearance, particularly along the back, neck, and rump.
Raised, crusty scabs on the skin, which can be itchy and uncomfortable for the horse.
Redness and inflammation around the affected areas.
Sensitivity or pain when touched.

Always love horse facts.

Here are some fascinating and little known facts about horses, via Sophie Seymour Equestrian.

They are truly amazing animals!!

๐ŸŽ Stallions/geldings have 4 extra teeth than mares do. These are called canine teeth and are historically used for fighting. (Note: itโ€™s rare, but some mares occasionally get them too).

๐Ÿ Arab horses have one less rib, lumbar vertebrae and tail bone than all other breeds.

๐ŸŽ A horseโ€™s Cerebrum (the part of the brain used for thinking and processing information) is the size of a walnut.

๐Ÿ Secretariat and Phar Lap, two of the best racehorses that ever lived, both had a heart that was twice the size of an average horses heart.

๐ŸŽ Horses can only breath through their nose.

๐Ÿ A horses eye is the largest of all land mammals (yes, larger than an elephants!)

๐ŸŽ If a horse is deficient in minerals they will start to eat dirt and even their own poo.

๐Ÿ Mounting a horse on the left side is just tradition. This is because soldiers would mount their horses on the left so that their swords, anchored over their left legs, wouldnโ€™t harm the horses backs.

๐ŸŽ Piaffe and passage were first used to keep horses fit when on boats going to war.

๐Ÿ A Horses oesophagus can only flip backwards, not forwards, thatโ€™s why they canโ€™t vomit and why colic is so prevalent.

๐ŸŽ Horses sleep for an average of only 2.5 - 3 hours in a 24 hour period.

๐Ÿ A horses resting respiratory rate can be as low as 8 breaths per minute.

๐ŸŽ A horses stride directly matches their breathing rate, and horses hold their breath when jumping. If your horse struggles with oxers, their breathing can be a cause.

๐Ÿ The lower leg of a horse has no muscles, only tendons and ligaments.

๐ŸŽ The frog of the horses hoof helps to pump the blood back to the heart.

๐ŸWhen in a herd, horses synchronise their heartbeats and if one horses heart goes up they know there is danger. This is why it is commonly said that horses can sense your fear.

๐ŸŽIn hot weather horses regularly stand nose to tail, using their tails to keep flies off each other.

If you know any other interesting facts about horses please add them in the comments. Feel free to share. ๐Ÿฅฐ

It's always a good idea to make sure everyone's happy before spraying. Using our probiotic spray even on healthy skin is great for your horses skin microbiome, particularly if your horse is prone to itchiness or rain scald.

"Absolutely love your product. I had a big area to treat and used a big spray bottle up in a week. The results were pretty amazing. He is happy and his coat has cleared completely, all scabs gone and we can touch him again as he was sensitive on his skin."

We were really happy to help Susans horse with some widespread rain scald. It's a numbers game with our beneficial microbes so a large bottle is best for mud fever or larger areas of rain scald. Getting enough "good guys" on there to outcompete and overwhelm the pathogens (bad guys).

Equinecare Probiotic

EquineCare Probiotic is a simple spray on treatment for minor skin abnormalities caused by bacterial and fungal diseases such as mud fever, rain scald and thrush.

EquineCare Probiotic is sprayed directly on the infected area. Unlike traditional methods of treating mud fever/greasy heel it is not necessary to remove the scabs from the horse. Our product contains beneficial microbes which essentially overcrowd the pathogens causing the disease. Once the tissue is healed sufficiently the scabs will come away naturally.

EquineCare Probiotic is made from a blend of naturally occuring beneficial bacteria, yeasts and fungi. These are GRAS listed (generally recognised as safe). Our spray is an effective, natural, non-toxic way of dealing with these conditions.

Please feel free to contact me by phone or email with any queries. We have stockists throughout Australia and NZ or you can shop online (we courier within 24 hours).
