🎇 Guy Fawkes Night: Keep Your Pets Calm and Safe! 🎇

Fireworks can be fun for us humans, but for our furry friends, the loud bangs and flashes can be really stressful. Here are some tips to help keep your pets calm and comfortable during the fireworks:

🐾 Create a safe space: Make a cozy, quiet area where your pets can retreat if they feel scared. Use their favourite blankets, toys, and some calming music to drown out the noise.

🐾 Keep all pets inside: Take dogs for a walk early afternoon and keep them on a leash to help prevent any escape attempts from early fireworks. Call your cats home during daylight and keep them inside for the night to avoid them panicking and running off.

🐾 Provide distractions: Use food enrichment puzzles and toys such as Lickimats and Kongs to give pets a tasty distraction throughout the night.

🐾 Shut windows and curtains: This helps minimise the noise and flashing lights which can help pets feel more secure.

🐾 Consider calming products: We have a range of products that can help such as Feliway, Adaptil and Thundershirts - all of which are on sale at the moment. We even have calming diets that can be very beneficial if started prior to a stressful event. Our vets can also discuss the use of medication to help keep your pet calm. Gang Gang and his family were ecstatic to be reunited after he went missing for 6 months!🐱

A member of the public had taken him to their local vet clinic after locating him in Whitford almost 40km from his home. Because he was microchipped as a kitten and his owner’s details were uploaded to the NZ companion animal register, the family was able to be reunited. 🐾

After a comprehensive exam by one of our vets he was luckily deemed fit and healthy, but surely a bit tired from his adventure! If your pet isn't microchipped, get one placed just in case one day they end up somewhere you wouldn't expect. Also, ensure your details are registered and up to date on the NZCAR to ensure they can find their way home. 💙

🐰Meet Bunbun, the 1 year old lop cross rabbit who was recently spayed at our Waihi clinic by Dr. Leah and monitored closely by our wonderful nursing team. 💙

Spaying your rabbit is highly recommended as there is a very high rate that they can develop uterine cancer if left entire. Desexing rabbits also helps reduce hormonally driven behaviours such as aggression and toileting outside the litterbox (yes you can litter train rabbits!) 🐇💙
