A little update about my trip in Mexico. Not only has this been a holiday but also an incredible learning experience as a trainer. So many street dogs and roaming pet dogs. Some healthier than others. Itβs been super interesting watching how the dog communicate with each other and how some have certain areas that are theirs and the other dogs know. Many dogs need medical treatment in some way if itβs from puncture wounds from dog fights or riddled with fleas. There is a harsh reality to the conditions a lot of the dogs live in. If I get the opportunity to come back Iβll definitely set up some fundraising to treat the dogs for fleas and worms and look into a desexing program to help population. Even though desexing is super important for population control itβs been amazing seeing the good over all temperaments on these dogs and all being entire. I would even say better temps than some dogs back home. These experiences are what makes trainers more knowledgeable and I will for ever be grateful for this holiday. Fun fact is this is only a small amount of the dogs iv been blessed to be around πβ€οΈ #dogtrainer #dogtraining #streetdogs #mixbreeddog #blessed #positivereinforcement

Massive progress with rebuilding the girls relationship. Training takes time. You canβt force a bond where dogs want to be close together. Itβs taken 2years to get back to this. But itβs been done in their time and they have both shown they want to be closer again. Now for the important part which is not getting to excited and wanting to push it with how we let them interact together. The process of rebuilding dog relationships can be extremely tricky and delicate one wrong decision can cause them to go backwards so the work doesnβt stop.
Blues progress
Blue has come so far with his training! We have gone from dragging the handler down the road to this. He is really good with the cue back when heβs getting too far in front and naturally backs up when he feels any lead pressure. We have also gone from frustration reactivity when we see other dogs to leaving them and offering me desired behaviours such as a sit or even self calming by sniffing the ground π still have work to do but super happy with where weβre at currently.
Great first lead session with beautiful @bossmanflirt. Flirt wants to go his pace like all dogs. So weβre going to be working on loose lead walking and engagement. We kept it nice and simple for his first session by working him around his home on the drive. This also helped take most environmental distractions away from him to help him succeed. We kept the duration of working him short and sweet with breaks between as learning new behaviours takes a lot of brain power especially as a puppy. #bordercollie #dogtraining #positivereinforcement
So proud of this boy and his owners!
His owners were told he would always be a dog who lacked impulse control and wasnt trainable....
Unfortunately that same person was not qualified in dog training or behavioral. But thats ok because it meant i was blessed enough to start working with buzz and his awesome family and look how far hes come! We have gone from pulling on the lead to calmer and more engaging behaviors. His stay, wait and recall is improving and slowly making progress on his leave it cue as he wants to be every dogs friend or hunt birds which he was breed for.
So excited to see him become the best version of himself π
Hopefully this is a good reminder to never give up on your dogs even when times get tough π
A bit of fun and a chnage for the tuesday groups π₯°
Lets talk about different reinforcements. Not all dogs are hugely food driven but thats ok. As a trainer its important we help owners find what reinforcement suits their individual dog. If its food, toys, a object of some kind, the environment or prase.
Clay is a great example. Likes the treats but loooovvves a good prase and fuss made over him especially when the energy is high. We have been working on his engagement more in public and reminding him we are way more important and exciting than other dogs or other distractions in public π
Next stage with hank. Short and sweet sessions with the straps being on as its a big step for a dog to have a muzzle clipped up.
4th session for muzzle training with beautiful Hank. Hank is such a sweet boy and tries so hard to always please. Hes super smart and fun to train. Muzzle training is going to protect this big boy for when other dogs get into his space and to help people understand he loves his space when mumma takes him out for his special time π
Today bella did some training by a primary school while kids were getting picked up. She did an amazing job! π

Noah loves his gf roxy π₯°
These two are always so excited to be together β€
Making some nice progress with this hunny. You can definitely train a old dog new behaviors. Just requires patience as your changing many years build up of a certain behavior.

Bella loves to sniff everything and being a strong dog ends up yanking her mummas arm to do so. We have been working on lead manners and to leave smells alone when asked. Bella does get lots of sniffing time on walks too as its still important she does π were also working on the leave it cue on the easier things like stuff she wants to sniff so we can start applying it to the more difficult stuff like dogs and people. π
Dogs DONT have to always be beside or behind you. A lot of owners are taught by uneducated trainers that dogs walking in front means they are trying to be Dominant or the leader. Have you ever just considered that dogs move at a faster pace and their brains are a lot quicker than humans. A walk with a dog is meant to be for them to get out and enjoy free time as well as using their brains. I do believe there is definitely a time and place for dogs to stick close to a handler e.g busy areas or other animals are near by but dogs also really need free time to sniff and decompress. Mellow whos the dog in this video knows how to heal beside me when asked but iv aslo taught her cues to help enjoy a more relaxed walk like shown. She knows if she applies the pressure to her collar we arnt going to move forward hence why she stops or even moves back slightly. She also knows other cues such as recall if shes in front. Iv also become such a high value reinforcement she chooses to occasionally come all the way back to me for a quick pat. I absolutely love walk sessions like this and really recommend more owners give it a try. π₯°
