This little old girl (Millie, not sure if that is her real name or not) was found wandering around Taumanu Reserve on Christmas Eve. A kind woman took her home, took her to the vet and got a sore foot treated, got her microchip checked, and spoke to the owner, who said Millie had been lost for months and that he didn't want her. She had a very matted coat (but I don't think she had been lost for months) and I groomed her between Christmas and New Year. She is 14 years old and a very sweet dog. She is apparently registered as a poodle but looks like a very small cocker spaniel (but with a curly coat) so is probably a cross. The woman who was looking after her couldn't do so anymore, so Millie is now in the council shelter. I spoke to them this morning and asked if I could take her out and hold her for the 7 days - I was told no but assured they were looking after her well and that they don't usually find it difficult to rehome elderly dogs. So - if anyone wants a sweet elderly dog - please consider Millie (after her 7 day hold period).

Well its just about the end of a year which has been quite difficult for a lot of people. This last month has been a bit stressful, as apart from being busy, my decision to reduce my hours next year resulted in me having to say goodbye to some people and dogs, that I didn't really want to say goodbye to. Thank you to those people for being so understanding. Onwards and upwards.... it looks like the weather is going to be great over the holiday period, so I hope everyone gets some sun and some time to relax.

This lovely photo was taken by Sara, who walks my dogs every Saturday while I am working. She is a vet nurse and dog walker to dogs of all sorts of ages and abilities. If you are looking for a dog walker, her number is 020 406 19776.

I am cutting my hours back in 2025, following a year of feeling a tad tired a lot of the time 😔 Shorter hours, and a quick trip to visit my children in May, are making it difficult to book in my existing clients (though I am doing my best!). I am not taking on any new clients.

If you want to look elsewhere, a new groomer has started work in Royal Oak and seems to have plenty of availability at the moment. She has worked for Angels and Animates and has now opened her own salon. Michelle Xu, 021 0841 6621. You can see her work on instagram, petgroomer_michelle1016. She takes dogs of all sizes.

Other options are Paws on Point Mangere Bridge (small dogs only), or mobile groomer Corina from Bella's Pet Spa, 027 207 8558, or Jims Dog Wash 021 102 6101 (based south Auckland but will come to Onehunga).
