Thank you so much to the amazing Nicki from Forage NZ for a big bag full of goodies for all the Guinea pigs, buns and even the chinchilla in the rescue at the moment!
She's trying out some new vitamin C eats for piggies - so far they're a hit here!
The lovely Chubchubs is still looking for a home to call his own! He is now 5 months old but still very much a kitten. đź’“
Our cat adoption application form is at https://www.aucklandcavycare.org.nz/cat-adoption-form/
We will soon also have one of Wayne's cats who came to us, ready for adoption, so if you're looking for an old cat (10 years), do consider her once she's ready!
We have 4 cute kittens in the rescue. The older two, Chubchubs and Boo are now 15 weeks old and came into the rescue at a day old with their stray mum and siblings; their mum and siblings have found homes but these two are still waiting!
The younger two are Lisa and Bart who are in the video below, we guess them to be around 13 weeks old. They were born to a feral mum who had had them in someone's garage. They also do have a 3rd sibling who is currently getting vet care for an infection, but hopefully she'll be up to getting de-sexed soon!
To apply to adopt any of these kittens please fill out our adoption application form at https://www.aucklandcavycare.org.nz/cat-adoption-form/
From the boy's current foster home.
"I'd like to give a big Thank you to Auckland Cavy care for giving us the awesome opportunity to foster these super cool boys for the holidays and get them familiar and used to everyday family life adults, teens, children, a cat and a dog. Maurice and Robyn are so cool!
These boys were very shy at first but have really come out of their shells in such a short time, they’re actually very sweet little boys! If they see or hear you, they squeak! And come running, they know and get very excited about veggie time, so loud lol, they’ll take food from your hand They love chin rubs and hanging out with humans, they especially love my ten-year-old son. Maurice is the boss in the relationship. They aren’t fussy and eat any veggies. They both love tunnels and zooming in and out of them."
To apply to adopt these two handsome boys, or any other guineas please fill out our Guinea Pig adoption application form at https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=ha2042&method=online_form_html&formid=41
Don't forget we are a registered charity so you can claim back the tax on your donations made to us! The rescues bank account number is 38-9014-0787909-00
Thank you, everyone, for your support over this year. đź’“
As we near the end of the year and Christmas time, we also are nearing the rescues close down period for adoptions.
During this time we try to get guineas out to foster homes so they can have their own special Christmases.
Are you staying home for the holidays and have time & space to offer some guineas, rabbits or kittens a place in your home for this period?
Auckland region only.
While it's still over a month away, we're hoping to have foster homes lined up for the Christmas period as we pause adoptions during this time as pets are for not just for Christmas.
Please get in touch with us if you're available to foster over this period!
We supply caging, pellets, hay, bedding, and anything else needed for our foster homes! (Minus fresh greens for the guineas or buns)

Thank you so much to Jase from One Stop Bunny Shop for picking up a cage for us to use for cats when we take in the occasional one. He also brought along 4 compact bales of meadow hay and some bags of timothy hay! Amazing!
We currently have a mumma cat with her 4 kittens here (mum cat was a stray a friend was feeding, and got surprised by kittens!); mumma cat will be desexed once kittens weaned and go back to our friends, the kittens will need forever homes! We also still have Milo & Stretch the siblings who came from the house with 23 cats. They are looking for their home together.
To Jojo from The Bunny Bach thank you for donating a couple of compact timothy hay bales and bringing them to us!
As everyone knows, Guinea Pigs and Rabbits eat a lot of hay! Hopefully, we're all set for the rest of the year.
We received feedback that our post seeking information on the whereabouts of the 8th baby and reuniting it with its mum was excessive.
We always think very carefully before posting anything, and the welfare of the baby buns was our utmost concern.
From the evening of the 24th until the morning of the 27th of September, the young rabbit was not with its mum. As it would be for any baby, this period away from its mum at that age was critical. During these formative weeks, the mum’s routine and care are best. If you find a baby bun and can not locate the mother, there are many great sites that provide proper care for orphans. These include feeding plans, milk substitutes, and foraged greens, not human-type veggies. Just because they can eat it does not mean it is right for their still-developing guts.
While his seven siblings are doing great—even the little runt—the damage done during those days away from his mum was too much for him to recover from, even with our best efforts. Unfortunately, he had to be put to sleep late last night.
We don’t want his loss to be in vain. If we can help just one person understand the needs of baby buns at a critical time in their development, it will be worth it.
As always, if you can help with a donation to support the work we do, it is greatly appreciated.
Another dumped guinea pig 🤬
A pet shop moved...and this little fella somehow magically appared across the road.
We're gonna help you, little one - you just have to let us help you. đź’“
EDIT: After almost 2.5 hrs she's caught and safe. Team work!
