Thunderhoof Clydesdales is proud to announce we have Kia Kaha Maclary (Hairy Maclary), our registered Clydesdale blue roan stallion is now available for stud. Based in Lawrence, Otago. Exciting news! We officially have our first Hairy Maclary foal on the ground and we are over the moon! A stunning filly, with lots of bling, born just after midnight yesterday, the 4th of November. Still trying to decide on a name for this wee girl, so keen to hear if anyone has any suggestions. We have opted to run a blood test to ensure that she has received all the antibodies she needs from the colostrum from Mum's milk, which was taken this morning and we should know the results later today, but other than that she is happy and healthy and mum is doing a brilliant job at feeding and keeping her safe. Below is a little sneak peek of her, but will definitely have lots more photos to come once I have a chance to put more up 😊

It has been a very long time since I last posted. Things are getting a bit exciting at Thunderhoof Ranch as we are eagerly awaiting on our first foal to drop by our registered Clydesdale stallion, Kia Kaha Maclary. Naomi, our black Standarbred mare, is due to pop any day now as she was due on the 23rd of October, so is now officially 5 days past due date! She is as big as a house, acting very uncomfortable, and we thought the other night she was starting to wax up but it was a false alarm... Due to Naomi being a maiden, it can be harder to predict when the foal will come so checking her multiple times a day is what we are currently doing to help ensure we don't miss anything. I had been putting off writing this post as I wanted to to wait until we had a strong and healthy foal on the ground as it has been a long, hard road to get to this point, including losing our registered mare a few years ago. This foal will definitely be very special, and once he/she is here I will be looking at offering Kia Kaha Maclary out for stud to a limited number of selected outside mares, pricing to be determined depending on what he produces with this foal 😊

We have been quite busy here at Thunderhoof Clydesdales during the lockdown with spending time getting Boxer back in work and Hairy Maclary even had an outside mare visit for 8 weeks. Fingers crossed she is in foal!

I am currently making plans to get the breeding side of the business up and running finally and looking at offering some other services at our property in Lawrence! It is all very exciting!

Finally getting motivated to focus more on my Clydesdales and away from the ponies... Boxer is now saddle broken and will be furthering his training in harness hopefully within the next few months and plans for Charisma to continue her harness training are being put in place. From next season I am hoping to have Maclary ready so he can serve outside mares. Lots to think about but all very exciting!

Mr Boxer is currently off being saddle broken... He had already done a bit of harness training over the past few years so this was the next step for his training. I am really looking forward to seeing the finished result as we have had this boy since weaning!
