Full Time/Part Time Groom/Rider based at our Cambridge yard - not as the place stated at the bottom of the advert by Facebook
We are a small well equipped equine centre with great working conditions, looking after and producing different types of horses, sports horses, rehab horses, spelling horses, broodmares, foals and dry mares. Some of our horses are very fit, some are at the start of their education, some are on holiday and some are part of our breeding program. It is important to us, that each horse gets the individual attention it needs all the time.
We are looking for someone who is:
Confident and experienced around horses, including thoroughbreds, young horses and sports horses.
Reliable, honest and conscientious,
Able to work in a team and/or on their own,
Willing to learn and have an inquiring mind,
Physically fit enough to do this job which involves working outdoors all year round,
Passionate about horses, their care and their training.
You must also
Have a good work ethic,
Have a can-do-attitude and combined with common sense,
Have an eye for details and be thorough with all tasks,
Be able to follow instructions,
Be able to lunge fit horses and young horses,
If you ride well enough there will be plenty of horses to ride and may be compete.
The job includes mucking out, all stable duties, feeding, bringing horses in and out to the paddocks, on and off the horse walker, tacking up, untacking and washing off, as well as grooming, pulling manes, clipping, plaiting, and turning horses out to a very high standard. The right person will also be able to help training horses.
While experience with completing all the usual stable tasks and handling horses is essential, further training can be given on all aspects of the groundwork, however we are not able to teach someone to ride.
We are located between Cambridge and Ohaupo so you need to have a method of get to and from work.
Horses are not a Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm job they need looking after 7 days a week. We work 8.00am to 5.00pm on the yard and whatever hours necessary at competition. We try to ensure that our staff work a 5 day week but because there has to be a rota this often means working Saturdays and Sundays and having 2 days off in the week.
