Also, this is Mothman. She came from the SPCA having been dumped with a terrible case of Scaly Leg. I was worried she’d be bullied being a solitary chicken introduced to a flock of brutal red ladies but turns out she’s the most feral overlord of all. Long live Mothman!!!

Woohoo! The quails took a BIG BREAK but possibly hearing my threatening whispers have started back to work! We may have dozens available in the future depending on numbers.

Phew! The weather has some feathers ruffled around here, although the ladies are loving some soft dirt to dig in and wet grass to nibble.

I have three 8-packs of eggs available today. $5 each.

The girls are getting wormed next week which means their eggs must not be consumed for the following seven days. We will have more eggs the week after next. 🙂

The rain has made it a little wet underfoot! My partner made fun of me for choosing a teeny tiny extra sink in the kitchen reno but as it turns out it’s perfect for muddy eggs. I have two dozen-packs available today - $7 each. 🙂

We have four wonderful breeds of hens in our flock and we’d love to take some time to introduce them. First up are the Araucanas!

We have four of these blue beauties and they are actually 3/4 araucana and 1/4 white leghorn. Make no mistake, they are jam packed with personality and just as crazy as they look. Curious, clever and unrepentant escape artists - they lay eggs with wonderful colours ranging from a baby blue to a pastel green.

Jean, Joan, Madge and Evelyn are happy to make your acquaintance and hope you enjoy their Easter coloured eggs. ✨

Do you know what these little bumps are on this lovely egg?

They’re called calcium deposits! Sometimes eggs can get little extra shell bits dotted around on the way through the hen. Our two eldest girls are four to five years old, which is quite old for a laying breed, and sometimes their eggs come out a bit funky! You won’t likely see eggs like this in commercial egg packets but they’re perfectly fine inside, as delicious as always and we would never think of wasting an ugly egg gifted by an old hen. 🥰

A cute little speckled egg getting packed today! Our Light Sussex girls lay these lighter eggs and sometimes we are lucky enough to get them decorated by nature. 🥰
