These are great signs that both dogs are enjoying themselves!
Does your dog play like this? Or would you like the opportunity for them to have more social experiences? Drop by Everything Dog at 789 Wairakei Road or dial 03 928 3133 to chat about whether day care could be a good fit for your dog!

This is nap time at daycare - a scheduled time that’s just as important as play 💤
While us humans tend to get in all of our sleep overnight, dogs have a polyphasic sleep cycle which means they sleep on and off in many stints, rather than just having one big chunk of sleep.
It’s important that we balance your dog’s needs for play and enrichment with their need for regular, quality rest, so we always make sure we provision adequate time for sleep.
Every dog has different needs, so you’ll see that some are happy to just chill out and have some quiet time, while others are very much taking the opportunity to snooze. Some also like to use this time to sneak in some extra cuddles (no complaints from us!).

When you actually have the best job in the world 🥰
We are so lucky we get to hang out with these happy faces every day.
When your pooch comes to hang out or stay in our kennels, our team loves them as one of our own family members.
What can we say? We’re dog people through and through. It’s as simple as that 🐕💕
Just getting our howl on 📢
It was certainly a canine chorus out in the yard on this particular rainy afternoon with this group wanting to let EVERYONE know they were having a great time.
Howling is actually a really important form of communication for dogs. The goal is locating and connecting with other dogs in the area. In the wild, howling would also have been an important tool for dogs to ward off potential intruders, or to alert their pack to possible threats.
Some will also howl in response to a siren or other high-pitched noise- and we sometimes get this if a siren can be heard in the distance here! 🚨
Have you ever heard your dog howl?
SHHHHHH…🤫 the Woofers are on a break 💤
Daycare at Everything Dog is designed to be a fun, engaging, and enriching experience for your dog.
A huge part of that is ensuring your pooch gets adequate rest to ensure they don’t get overtired. For reference, that’s ~12-14 hours per day for an adult dog 🐶
We always have quiet spaces available for our daycare pals to take a break, and we also have designated nap times when we bring them inside to relax. Some will sleep, some will just enjoy the quiet. The key is ensuring they have the opportunity to rest without constant stimulation and excitement.
Just as it is for us, sleep is hugely important for a dog’s overall health. It not only helps them to recover their energy, but it also assists with boosting their immune system, enhancing their cognitive function, and supporting their mental and physical well-being. An over-tired dog can “act out” just like a human toddler would.
Our senior pooches often need more sleep than young adult-middle-aged dogs, and we can absolutely accommodate this by catering their daycare experience to their needs.
How much do you think your dog sleeps during the day?
Have you ever been in awe of your dog’s ability to catch an object in their mouth?
It’s all thanks to their natural instincts, swift reflexes, anatomy and keen senses.
Remember, dogs are descended from wolves who needed to execute excellent coordination and timing to chase down and catch moving objects (prey).
Is your dog a fan of playing fetch/catch? We’ve got loads of great toys to give your throwing arm a workout 😉, and keep your pup busy all day long…! Drop into 789 Wairakei Road to check out our collection.
Must. Check. Thoroughly 🕵️♂️
The dogs just love this enriching activity - searching through shredded paper and using their senses to discover what might be hiding inside.
Shredded paper like this encourages dogs to dig and sniff using their paws and noses. It’s a great problem-solving exercise that requires them to use all of their senses to reach a reward 🏆
Sensory enrichment is as important as physical exercise for our dogs, and providing this is one of our greatest passions. We create new experiences every day to keep our daycare and kennel pups busy, engaged, and stimulated.
Have you ever been THIS excited to hang out with your friends?! 😍
Playtime never gets old at Everything Dog and we love seeing the magic come to life when we group dogs that get along so well 🐕🐕
There’s actually a lot that goes into grouping our dogs - it’s definitely not a case of just putting a few together and seeing what happens. We like to get to know each and every one of them (and their humans) before their first session with us. It’s important that we know their social history, their likes and dislikes, and the types of personalities they mix well with.
This is a group of our ‘Woofers’ (all over 16 weeks) and they can play with up to 15 dogs at once, according to their size and personality.
Woofers enjoy loads of time in our large outdoor enrichment areas, a midday nap and plenty of enrichment activities in our modular indoor space with our trained handlers.
Some dogs prefer their own company or quieter small groups, and others are canine social butterflies and will quite happily run around and play with a larger group of friends. Whichever group your dog fits into (or even if they’re somewhere in between), at Everything Dog, we pride ourselves on being for every dog, and we’d love to meet and get to know your favourite canine friend too!
Drop us a line at [email protected] - we’d love to chat with you about how we can best support your dog’s unique needs and character.
This is the cutest demonstration of the ‘play bow’ - and you may have seen your own pooch doing this.
Rousseau and Bea are super happy to play together - they almost look like they’re dancing!
Rousseau is bowing with pure excitement - sending a clear signal that he is ready and keen to keep the fun going. Seeing excitement from the other dog is a reassuring sign that this is a fun and positive for both pooches.
Dogs have such a huge range of body language that can be really fascinating to watch and learn about. It gives us good clues about how they’re feeling in certain scenarios and environments.
Drop a 🐶 below if this is the cutest thing you’ve seen today!
Hope everyone had a fabulous Easter, like we did! 🐣

Tug of War is a real favourite around here! 🐕🐕
Dogs are drawn to games that bring out their natural instincts - and tug of war is a great way for them to practice some of their ancestral behaviours.
This game mirrors the pulling and shaking movements they might use for subduing prey in the wild. Activities like this are not only fun and provide physical exercise, but they also provide many psychological benefits by fulfilling these instinctual drives!
Tug of war also provides social interaction - whether it’s with a human or another dog.
Does your dog love this game too?
As you scroll through these images, you might be wondering what's happening here. 👀
These dogs are all deeply engaged - whether enjoying the thrill of shredded paper, exploring new objects, or following scent trails for hidden toys and treats 🐾
At Everything Dog, we prioritize enrichment - recognizing the immense health value of offering these experiences to keep their minds active and bodies moving.
Each day, we set up new activities to captivate and engage our canine pals at daycare.
We love sharing and exchanging ideas, so if you're keen on exploring enrichment activities at home, drop by 789 Wairakei Road for a chat.
We're all ears for your suggestions too - share your enrichment tips in the comments below. 👇
Murphy has discovered our Toy of the Month - and it’s a goodie! 🐶🥚
The JW Mega Egg is made to keep your dog busy, engaged, and stimulated. Its unique egg-like design makes it really tricky for dogs to grab with their mouth or paws - and we all know how much our pups LOVE a challenge 🐾
As Murphy shows us, a little tap sends the Mega Egg on a roll, engaging your dog’s natural drive to chase!
Great for solo play, play with canine pals, or a good old game of fetch.
Reckon your Pooch would love a Mega Egg? Make sure you hit SAVE on this post and pop into the Everything Dog Emporium at 789 Wairakei Road to check it out!
“Shake hands!” 🐾🖐
Have you taught your dog any tricks?
It may be easy to see a rollover, spin, speak, and high-five as “useless” things to teach your pooch. But, there’s actually a lot of value in trick training!
Here are five reasons you might consider teaching your dog a few tricks:
1️⃣ It strengthens your bond - as with any type of training, teaching your dog tricks can help to encourage a strong relationship that’s built on trust.
2️⃣ Mental stimulation - positive interactions with you help to enrich and stimulate your dog.
3️⃣ It boosts your dog’s confidence - dogs are very much goal-driven creatures. When they can problem solve and master challenges with plenty of praise from you, this can really help to grow their confidence.
4️⃣ Teaches patience - having to earn or wait for a reward teaches your pooch the valuable skill of patience.
5️⃣ It’s FUN - for both trainer and dog!
Did you know we run trick classes for all ages? If you’re keen on booking, you can find out more on our website everythingdog.co.nz under the Dog Training section.
Dogs are social animals - they thrive in the company of other dogs. So you might be wondering: can dogs have best friends?! 🐕🐩
Well, it seems they can indeed have preferred pals who they love to spend time with. This may be other dogs they live with, or who they see regularly on play dates or in settings such as daycare. We often see certain dogs gravitate to one another during play, and it’s wonderful to see the bonds they grow with one another.
Dogs can also form attachments to other species as we well know as this includes humans! But this may even extend to other animals in the home such as cats.
Does your dog have a best friend?
If your dog is in need of some extra socialization, make sure you pop in and see us at 789 Wairakei Rd or give us a call at 03 928 3133 - we’d love to chat to you about our daycare service!
Turns out it’s not just our human babies who LOVE bubble play - our dogs do, too! ✨
Bubble play taps into a dog’s natural prey-drive instincts. The thrill of chasing a moving object is not only FUN but it also provides a whole lot of satisfaction too.
It’s also a great workout as they can practice running, jumping, and leaping to catch their floating “prey”.
Just make sure any bubble mixture you use is dog-safe - some commercially made mixes may cause tummy upset if your dog likes to “eat” the bubbles.
Make sure you hit SAVE on this easy-play idea - and tag a fellow dog lover in the comments so they can try this out with their dogs! 👇
