A nice day out with the girls today at the trials. Both still quite green but learning the racing caper.

Turnontheglam trialled well for third without being asked a lot from her, she jumped well from the gates and got amongst runners then found the line under her own steam. A nice educational ride from Floor Moerman.

Holdem having her second trial after going shin sore last prep, got away from the gates well to lead, and had to be kept up to the task by Brett Murray wanting to switch on and off throughout the running to win her trial by a nice margin at the post.

Really pleased by both fillies and can’t watch to watch their progression over the next few months.

📹: Holdem loving her work past the post.

We love celebrating client success on a Monday! 🎊🎊

The lovely Goldie's Chance was an impressive winner over 1200m for Champagne Racing Stables! She is prepared on Premier E & Bio-Trition ⭐️

Pitman Racing Stables also collected a double with the speedy Mystic Park & I Am Roman 🔥

Meg Cunneen Racing's Shinto & Mark Jones Racing's Correction picked up lovely wins across the Riccarton meetings!

Down at Winton, five of the ten races were collected by our clients, with Amber Hoffman, Stonewall Stud and Stables, Brett Gray Harness Racing & Craig Ferguson Racing Stables 💪👏🏽

Back at Addington, Todd Racing Limited continued his fantastic form with a double with Louretta & Betterthancash, while at Ashburton, Bob Butt Racing Stables & Stonewall Stud and Stables collected a success apiece with Cyclone Zion & Sandy Shore 💙

In the North Island, Chrissy Bambry Racing's The Finnster was a very dominant (six length!) winner of the Rating 65 2050 metres at Wanganui ⚡️ He is prepared not only on our popular Premier E, but also Haemavite B Plus, Selenavite & Restore-Lyte!

Congratulations to all connections, roll on the spring 🌷🌷

Two of our two year old fillies taking advantage of the beautiful, warm morning to take to the pool for the first time. Ally (2f Ace High - Hannah Marene) and Eve (2f Vanbrugh - Acute) loved the water!

Really pleased with the team yesterday racing on our home track at Riccarton Park.

Shinto (5g Satono Aladdin - Takaka) made it win one at start nine in the Speights Summit Ultra On Tap Maiden (1400m $25,000) in the hands of Corey Campbell, who was having his first ride back from holiday.

From barrier 7, Corey after jumping well, pressed on to the lead on our boy, Ted. The pair had a battle with Lone Spirit all the way up the straight putting a distance on the rest of the field, fighting best over the concluding stages to win by 1/2 neck at the line. A very brave effort from a horse who has had his fair share of issues along the way. A great effort second up, back on good ground after not handling a wet track fresh up.

Congratulations to his owner/breeder, Paul Cunneen - great to see him now rewarded for his patience.

A massive thanks must also go to the team at Canterbury Equine Clinic, for having Shinto in their care this time last year when they found him to have bone chips in both knees. Ted is happy and sound, and it was a massive (and slightly emotional) thrill to see him get the money.

Really pleased with the run of Blue Vein later in the day, to run a gallant third with Terry Moseley aboard in his first outing for the stable. Looking forward to getting him to the races again soon.

Replay of Shinto:

Eve (2f Vanbrugh - Acute) hasn’t been the easiest horse to break in, but due to the patience and understanding of each horse at KW Racing she’s finally made an appearance at the track. Katie was really pleased with how rideable she was on her first morning. A massive thanks to Krystal, Floor and team - we couldn’t be more happy with the breakers they’ve done for us this season.

Two to head to the races on our home track, Riccarton Park on Saturday.

11.56am R1. SHINTO - Corey Campbell
A bit of a trainer error fresh up at Oamaru, he shouldn’t have started on a wet track, but we live and we learn. Races well on this course, blinkers back on, and up to 1400 metres for the first time which should be no issue. The track is drying out fast in the wind, so hoping to see him return to his best form which would see him a winning chance.

2.13pm R5. BLUE VEIN - Terry Moseley
Stepping out in the tartans for the first time. I have a task at hand to maintain his super consistent form from his previous trainer (and good friend, Adrian Bull). He’s been enjoying some variety in his work with some jumping and flatwork. Really looking forward to getting this honest son of Shamexpress to the races for the team.

Good luck to Paul Cunneen with ‘Ted’, and the team behind ‘Smurf’ - Adrian & Harry Bull, Tim & Hayley Cameron, Paul Cunneen, Ron & Adrienne Ferriman, Brendan Hapeta, Gareth Jones, Lorraine Reardon, Margaret & Steve Ridley and Simon & Kirsty Williamson.

A pretty quiet week for the team - just ticking over for the spring!

First picture is of Blue Vein with Katie aboard who has just joined our team. He will race next Saturday at Riccarton. Really thankful to Adrian Bull for leaving him with us, he’s a consistent little horse who is a delight to have around the stable.

Second photo is of Turnontheglam with Terry aboard. She missed the trials a couple of weeks ago with a stone bruise but is back on track and ready for the next set of trials. A big filly by Turn Me Loose, who will continue to improve as she fills into her large frame.

One to race tomorrow at Oamaru.

3.45pm R7. SHINTO - Terry Moseley

Kicking off his campaign working towards spring racing. Has raced well fresh up in the past, has drawn barrier one which he should get the dream run. The track is probably a little wet for his liking, but his work has been good enough to opt to run here rather than the trials on Tuesday. Expecting a good performance fresh and will improve with the run under his belt.

Good luck to Paul Cunneen with the trainers favourite boy, Ted!

Also a special mention - Happy Birthday to our neighbour who gives us all a reason to laugh and have fun on cold mornings - Danny Crozier!

One to race tomorrow on the middle day of the Grand National carnival.

4.04pm R9. HIVARI - Brett Murray
Has really come to the party the last few starts recording a brilliant record on the poly. A wide draw to overcome here, but he’s in fine form, and with a bit of luck has the ability to be competitive once again.

Good luck to Richard and Grant Woolford with their boy, Wally!

The 23/24 most certainly wasn’t the easiest for our team. With a number of our older horses retiring it’s been very much a rebuilding season, with promising up comers such as Mis Speaks and Shinto both sustaining injuries in the spring.

Zac The Lad ridden by Tina Comignaghi got us on the board at Kumara winning the Maiden 1150m event for a great stable client, Noel Nicholson. ‘Zane’ is not an easy horse so a real credit to Brett Murray and Katie Readings for their work on him.

We had to wait to the latter part of the season to see Hivari hit his straps, finishing his season with a faultless form line of 213. A win that came on the Riccarton Synthetic in a Maiden 1200, with Brett Murray aboard. A really exciting horse for our team once the penny drops, and thankful for Richard and Grant Woolford for allowing us the time to be patient and do the right thing by ‘Wally’.

A massive thank you to everyone who has contributed to our small team, Katie Readings, Brett Murray, Terry Moseley, Kimberley Hodgson, our farrier Jared Hayston, our vet Hamish Ranken, Jessica Rose Champion, Amy Champion, Olivia Champion and Jess Roberts over the season.

Also a huge amount of appreciation to the owners we have behind us, your support has been incredible and we look forward to the racing year ahead!

28/07/2024

Turnontheglam (2f Turn Me Loose - Glamazon) with Floor Moerman up was our sole runner at the jumpouts today. She is now ready for the next step of heading to the trials in a couple of weeks time.

14/07/2024

Phenomenal Rose enjoyed some variation yesterday, trading in the track for some jumping. It took her a wee while to work out what was being asked of her, but once the penny dropped she loved her work.

One to race at the Riccarton synthetic meeting tomorrow.

12.38pm R3. HIVARI - Brett Murray
Got his maiden win on the board last start on this track. Steps up to 1400 metres in 3 year old company, which he has measured up to running second in a similar field two starts back. Has trained on well and expect him to go another honest race from barrier one.

Good luck to the Woolfords with ‘Wally’

One to race today at Riccarton on the synthetic.

1.32pm R5. PHENOMENAL ROSE - Brett Murray
Come to the end of her run the last 100 fresh up. Had bounced through that race well. A filly who will improve as she keeps stepping up over ground, but drawn to receive an economical run and should improve with a race under her belt.

Good luck to Chris Rowe and Toby Skevvington with Viva!

One to race on our home track tomorrow at Riccarton Park.

12.20pm R2. ZAC THE LAD - Brett Murray
Fresh up and ready for winter racing. He’s a quirky little horse that gives his best in the wet. No trial, but have been pleased with his work and hoping for a bold effort to kick off his campaign.

Good luck to Noel Nicholson with Zane!

13/06/2024

Hivari gained maiden success yesterday at Riccarton Park on the synthetic track in the Speights Summit Ultra On Tap Maiden 1200 with Brett Murray aboard.

From a sticky barrier draw, Brett elected to slot back into midfield with the pace going on early. Presented at the 400, the son of Tivaci accelerated, wanting to lug in and do things wrong but under the guidance of his jockey he kept coming and got his head down to win by 1/2 a neck at the line. Well ridden by Brett for throwing Plan A out the door and going for Plan B with the charge on early.

A huge congratulations to the Woolfords who own ‘Wally’, and a massive thank you for allowing us to be patient with him. He is a very quirky horse, but race by race his ringcraft has improved and it was nice to see him get a well deserved win on the board at start six.

Also well done to Katie Readings, she took Wally under her wing from the start. He has been a real challenge but it’s been a pleasure to watch him gain confidence on the track and rewarding to see him get win one on the board.

Thanks to everyone who contributes to our little team, your hard work is much appreciated.

One runner to line up on Thursday at Riccarton on the synthetic.

2.07pm R4. HIVARI - Brett Murray
Super run last start in three year old company against race winners to get beaten a head in running second. He’s a really progressive horse who shows good ability at home, just mentally has taken time to work out what his job is. Barrier 8, a bit sticky, but on his last run and dropping in grade, he’s a genuine winning hope on this track.

Good luck to the Woolfords with Wally!

Two to race tomorrow on the Riccarton Synthetic.

11.22am R1 - HIVARI - Brett Murray
Disappointing he didn’t get a go before Wingatui was abandoned. Slowly but surely his ringcraft is improving but still very much a work in progress. Has won a trial on this track.

11.52am R2- PHENOMENAL ROSE - Leah Hemi
Has come back a stronger horse this preparation. Has a wide barrier to contend with here, but needs to kick off her campaign somewhere. She will continue to improve with this run under her belt.

Good luck to the Woolfords and Chris Rowe & Tony Skevvington with Wally and Viva!

One runner on Saturday on our home track, Riccarton Park contending for black type success in the Listed Champagne Stakes.

1.15pm R4. OAKSDEEL - Leah Hemi
A gorgeous filly who showed that the world is well and truly her oyster at the trials when winning at Ashburton. More a three year old type, her family has proven competitive in Australia at 2 with her half brother, Snapback running second in the Gr. 2 Sires Produce in Queensland. She’ll learn a lot from the race day experience but has the quality to figure.

Good luck to Colin Wightman with his beautiful filly, Daisy.

Racing on our home turf at Riccarton Park tomorrow.

11.50am R1. HIVARI - Brett Murray
Got a little bit too laid back last start with compression hood/ear covers on and was bold in hitting the line late in the piece. Back on a bigger track helps here with the ear covers coming off. He’s a quirky horse with good ability who’s finally starting to put the racing puzzle together. Up to 1400 for the first time he looks a good top 4 chance.

1.30pm R4. WESTWOOD - Terry Moseley
Put a line through last start, had no luck from the wide gate. Senior rider going back on here. Had been really consistent until last run, and drop back to 1000m is tailor made for her with the lightweight on her back. If she can jump well from the gate, she can give a sight.

Good luck to the Woolfords and Angus Lampp with Wally and Lola!

A pleasure to have Brett and Terry on board tomorrow, they both play a huge part in the day to day running of the stable. Their help and work is much appreciated.

📸: Hivari and Brett Murray, who will take the reins tomorrow.

Westwood enjoying a bit of variation in her work cruising round the jumps this morning as she prepares for racing at Riccarton Park on Saturday.

A good day out at the trials at Ashburton today for the girls. All learnt plenty!

Heat 1.

- ALBERTON ANGEL (2f Darci Brahma - Magic Briar)
Our little pint sized pony jumped well from the gate and led from start to finish just to put her nose down on the line.

- HOLDEM (2f Ace High - Takaka)
Handled her day out well for the hot headed filly she can be. Got that relaxed she didn’t want to come out of second gear, but will take a lot from her trial and was a positive experience for her.

Heat 2.

BLUE GODDESS (2f Dundeel - Nancy Grace)
Jumped and took a trail today. Popped through to hit the front on the corner and travelled under little pressure to the line to run a nice second.

OAKSDEEL (2f Dundeel - Later Gator)
The surprise package today, a big filly with a lot of furnishing to do. She relaxed too well at the back of the field throughout and with a bit of urgency from back in the field she weaved her way through to win well by a length at the line.

Thanks to Brett Murray, Kin Kwo and Terry Moseley for riding our girls, and making the day out a positive experience for Bree, Sam, Delta and Daisy.

Also to Robbie Patterson for lending us his truck along with driver extraordinaire, Tony Corric, and Katie Readings and Sam O’Malley for helping with the girls.

Three to race tomorrow at Ashburton.

1.50pm R5. SHINTO - Terry Moseley
Disappointing last start at Wingatui after stringing together a couple of nice placings. Back on a firmer track should suit, barrier two, blinkers going on, we hope to see him back to his previous form.

3.35pm R8. WESTWOOD - Donovan Cooper (a3)
Gallant in defeat last start at Wingatui going down a narrow margin. Holding form well, but wide gate is no help. If she has things go her way early, she will put up another honest showing.

4.45pm R10. MIS SPEAKS - Terry Moseley
Was kicking on ok last start before hitting a hole in the track. She needs to step up, but has a good barrier draw and has trialled well on this track before.

Good luck to all connections!
