A nice day out with the girls today at the trials. Both still quite green but learning the racing caper.
Turnontheglam trialled well for third without being asked a lot from her, she jumped well from the gates and got amongst runners then found the line under her own steam. A nice educational ride from Floor Moerman.
Holdem having her second trial after going shin sore last prep, got away from the gates well to lead, and had to be kept up to the task by Brett Murray wanting to switch on and off throughout the running to win her trial by a nice margin at the post.
Really pleased by both fillies and can’t watch to watch their progression over the next few months.
📹: Holdem loving her work past the post.
Two of our two year old fillies taking advantage of the beautiful, warm morning to take to the pool for the first time. Ally (2f Ace High - Hannah Marene) and Eve (2f Vanbrugh - Acute) loved the water!
Eve (2f Vanbrugh - Acute) hasn’t been the easiest horse to break in, but due to the patience and understanding of each horse at KW Racing she’s finally made an appearance at the track. Katie was really pleased with how rideable she was on her first morning. A massive thanks to Krystal, Floor and team - we couldn’t be more happy with the breakers they’ve done for us this season.
2f Ace High - Hannah Marene going round well in her first preparation at the track. Thanks Kezia Murphy for the company!
Turnontheglam (2f Turn Me Loose - Glamazon) with Floor Moerman up was our sole runner at the jumpouts today. She is now ready for the next step of heading to the trials in a couple of weeks time.
Phenomenal Rose enjoyed some variation yesterday, trading in the track for some jumping. It took her a wee while to work out what was being asked of her, but once the penny dropped she loved her work.
One to race today at Riccarton on the synthetic.
1.32pm R5. PHENOMENAL ROSE - Brett Murray
Come to the end of her run the last 100 fresh up. Had bounced through that race well. A filly who will improve as she keeps stepping up over ground, but drawn to receive an economical run and should improve with a race under her belt.
Good luck to Chris Rowe and Toby Skevvington with Viva!
Westwood jumping
Westwood enjoying a bit of variation in her work cruising round the jumps this morning as she prepares for racing at Riccarton Park on Saturday.
Ashburton Trials
A good day out at the trials at Ashburton today for the girls. All learnt plenty!
Heat 1.
- ALBERTON ANGEL (2f Darci Brahma - Magic Briar)
Our little pint sized pony jumped well from the gate and led from start to finish just to put her nose down on the line.
- HOLDEM (2f Ace High - Takaka)
Handled her day out well for the hot headed filly she can be. Got that relaxed she didn’t want to come out of second gear, but will take a lot from her trial and was a positive experience for her.
Heat 2.
BLUE GODDESS (2f Dundeel - Nancy Grace)
Jumped and took a trail today. Popped through to hit the front on the corner and travelled under little pressure to the line to run a nice second.
OAKSDEEL (2f Dundeel - Later Gator)
The surprise package today, a big filly with a lot of furnishing to do. She relaxed too well at the back of the field throughout and with a bit of urgency from back in the field she weaved her way through to win well by a length at the line.
Thanks to Brett Murray, Kin Kwo and Terry Moseley for riding our girls, and making the day out a positive experience for Bree, Sam, Delta and Daisy.
Also to Robbie Patterson for lending us his truck along with driver extraordinaire, Tony Corric, and Katie Readings and Sam O’Malley for helping with the girls.
Four of our two year olds at the jump outs yesterday preparing for trialling next week at Ashburton.
- HOLDEM (2f Ace High x Takaka)
- OAKSDEEL (2f Dundeel x Later Gator)
- BLUE GODDESS (2f Dundeel x Nancy Grace)
- ALBERTON ANGEL (2f Darci Brahma - Magic Briar)
Thanks to Brett, Kin and Terry for riding our girls!
Two to race tomorrow on our home track at Riccarton Park.
1.40pm R4. LIGAR LASS - Corey Campbell
Super effort last start fresh up over a mile. Good draw here. A filly we’ve always liked just needs better ground which she will get again tomorrow. Gets a gate to give her an economical run.
5.16pm R10. JUNE BUG - Corey Campbell
Hasn’t had a lot go her way the last three starts. Senior back on to hopefully give her a bit of confidence back here and good gate to jump from. Has performed well on this track.
Good luck to Noel Nicholson and Chris Rowe & Michael Stokes with Ivy and Beetle tomorrow!
Tivaci - Membership filly
Awesome to get updates on our lovely Tivaci - Membership yearling filly going through the breaking process. Cool, calm and collected she is taking it all in her stride. Can’t wait to see her on the track! Thanks to the team at Rae Williams Racing for doing a super job with Tabby!
Hivari - Ashburton
A nice trial win by Hivari (3g Tivaci - Heartfelt) today. He’s still learning this caper but most certainly isn’t lacking on ability. Thanks to Tanya Jonker for guiding him round.
Really nice trials by Mis Speaks and Shinto both on the back of injury lay offs, they seem on the right track and put up good performances for Terry Moseley who is also on the way back from injury. Ligar Lass also ran a nice trial for second, she’s looking for more ground but fought on well.
Princess Solitaire and Pivotal Ten, both have a little to learn, but Pivotal Ten hit the line really and they are both nice fillies going forward.
Hivari
A nice win from Hivari (3g Tivaci - Heartfelt) today at the trials. He’s been a real work in progress and will improve a lot with todays experience where he was very green on a couple of occasions. Now off to the paddock for Wally for a well deserved break over Christmas and New Year. A horse we think has a lot of potential and look forward to having him ready to go again come autumn. Well handled by Katie Readings who rides him work every day and is in the early part of her racing career.
Delta and Daisy
Our Dundeel girls working round nicely this morning. On the rail we have the filly out of Nancy Grace with David Medcalfe aboard, who will head to the trials next week. On the outside is Jess Champion aboard the filly out of Later Gator. Both cracking types and showing good ability in their second preparation.
These girls were broken in superbly by Olly and Annabel at Beaufort Downs.
Bornholm jumping
Bornholm enjoying a bit of variety with some jumping this morning as he prepares to race next Friday at Timaru. He loves doing something different whether it’s jumping or going to the beach. Thanks Jess for riding him, surely he’ll be seen out in the show jumping arena following his racing career.
Alberton Angel
Three to trial tomorrow at Ashburton.
11.00am H1. ALBERTON ANGEL - Brett Murray
1.00pm H9. LIGAR LASS - Brett Murray
1.15pm H10. SMOKIN’ JOSIE - Brett Murray

Bornholm at the beach
Bornholm enjoying a splash in the water for a bit of R&R after his race yesterday for 5th on what ended up being a very hard track. Thanks to Brett for coming to ride him and Emma, Scallop and Gus for taking us and the great company.
Shinto put up a game performance fresh up for third with not the easiest of runs. Mis Speaks felt the track and jarred up badly so is off to the paddock for a holiday and will be back to target autumn racing.
Also wishing Terry Moseley a speedy recovery after suffering an ankle injury yesterday.
2f Ten Soveriegns - Lady Woodcote and 2f US Navy Flag - Princess Sapphire
Tara (2f Ten Sovereigns - Lady Woodcote) and Jewel (2f US Navy Flag - Princess Sapphire) braving the wind at the track this morning. Both are a delight to have around and been well educated by Krystal Williams and her team at their Burnham stable.
Glam and Opal
Two of our new two year olds learning the ropes this morning. On the outside is ‘Glam’ 2f Turn Me Loose - Glamazon with Brett Murray aboard, and closest to the camera is ‘Opal’ 2f Ocean Park - My Locket with Kin Kwo up. Both very relaxed in their new environment.
