This weekend we set up shop in the form of a stall at the CKA Scentwork Trials. Such a fun and rewarding weekend!
Thanks so much to everyone who came to take a look at my products and supported my wee venture 💙
Big things are coming for us in future as Dog Next Door will have a little more time dedicated to it while I also open my new Business running along side it, Pawfection Grooming Salon 🐾

Along with the stall, my dogs kicked ass,
Ginny is the first dog in NZ to gain a certificate towards her Excellent Container Title and also managed to pass her Advanced Vehicle.

Addie who had her first trial competed in novice containers only and got her first certificate in just 18seconds! I am very proud 💘

My goal in life is to be as good of a person as my dog thinks I am.

I also wish to take lessons from my dog and be as unknowingly happy as them, so willing to forgive, and eager to experience new places and things.

Dogs look up to us, but they're such amazing little creatures who see the world totally differently than we do. I only hope to live up to and exceed their expectations of happiness 🌊💠

I know for a fact that scentwork helps me do this for them. It opens their world up to get to experience even more of the things they love and creates such a bond between handler and hound that can't be compared. Their little tails wag, and their hearts and minds are full and happy are they run around sniffing.

Let's talk colours..

This week I FINALLY put together my own scentwork kit. I'll tell you what, organisation is a big step up from a jumbled Tupperware container full of various hides in various colours!

The ease of having every scent I use for both Dogs NZ and SSANZ now colour coded and divided into its own container is amazing.

I definitely recommend if you are starting your scentwork journey or just trying to improve your kit, look at what you can do to make your job easier.

Here at Dog Next Door I spend a lot of time researching to find most of our hides in up to 8 colours, Black, Gold, Silver, Red, Blue, Purple, Green and Pink. This gives you heaps of options to pick items that already match the colour hides you have, or maybe you now have the option to have your hides in your favorite colour!

SCENT WORK IS...

a fun and engaging sport for our dogs which hones in on their strongest natural ability. Sniffing! This is a sport where the handler and the dog must work together as a team, the dog leading the way and the handler there for encouragement and guidance, to seek out a specified scent in a range of environments. You might notice that your dogs ears move around a lot. They actually have around 18 muscles responsible for moving their ears. These help them to change the direction of their ears slightly to hear noises around them better, and can also play a really big part in telling us how our dogs are feeling. A lot of a dog’s body language is expressed through what their ears are doing so a dog’s ears are vital in helping them communicate both with us and other dogs.
