What an amazing weekend!
The National Dog Groomers Association of New Zealand hold an annual grooming competition and teaching seminars, of which I competed and also entered my final terriers exam. Thank you to everyone who organises these events and enable us to continue our journey.
Grooming isn't just a job for me, it's my business, my career and it means a great deal to me to constantly try and improve my skills.
During the 3 day event (for Novice), I managed to take home 3rd place in my freestyle, 2nd place for my Scottish Terrier in the terriers class (and I passed my exam so a double yay!) and a whopping 1st place for my Oodle class! 🐶🤩

I am so grateful to Angels Grooming and the amazing tutors Emma and Sam and also to Savi and Tash who have shown nothing but support and encouragement. It is these incredible groomers who give me the inspiration and help to enter these competitions and continue learning. I wouldn't be where I am without them.

I also want to say thank you to all of my wonderful clients, your continual support make me strive to be better.

My gosh it's February already! I hope you all had a wonderful time over the holidays (it already feels like a while ago now).

Meet:
Darling Ted - one of my first and most well behaved boys 🤩 His mum does such a great job that he actually hands me his paws when I need to work on them!
Delightful Ruffy - I do believe the happiest dog Ive ever met - he seems to truely love being groomed and I absolutely adore this boy 🥰
Little Miss Molly - Molly has always been a sweetheart to groom!
Loveable Wicket - one of my more nervous dogs - he took a while to get used to me but he improves so much each time I see him and it's just amazing to see! One of the absolute biggest perks in this business is to see the transformation from scared/timid (and normally rather naughty or fear aggressive) to a happy, loveable snuggle bunny. Some may never enjoy grooming, but I can sure try and make it at least a good experience for them and to take that fear away! 🐶

It has been a while since I last posted - the time just seems to get away from me!

What a year it has been!
I started Pawsome Pet Grooming in June 2024 moving full time in August and I truely never thought I'd be lucky enough to be where I am now.
I have connected with the most amazing people, learnt some great new skills and have had the privilege of grooming the most awesome dogs.
I have had the heartache of loss and I still greatly miss those babies that are no longer with us but will always be in our hearts and I have introduced new life (and cuteness overload) to the fun of the grooming world.

I want to say thank you so much to the amazing groomers and tutors at Angels Grooming Academy and Parlour - Sam, Emma, Savi, Tash - I could not have done this without your continual support and help. I cannot wait to be back again next year for more fun upskilling! - I love to learn and improve myself whenever I can 🤩

I want to say thank you to @ I just LOVE my van and layout - it's my home away from home and I couldn't have asked for anything better.

Most importantly - I want to say thank you to all of my wonderful clients. I am so grateful for your continual support and care. Not only have you taken me on as a newbie groomer but have entrusted me with the care of your fur babies. I consider myself incredible lucky to have you and I will do my best to provide you with the best care and service that I can (albeit I may occasionally make some mistakes with the admin side 😅). I will continue to learn, up skill and improve so that I can better handle and groom your pets to the best of my ability. I am so fortunate to know you and I can't help but love your babies as if they were my own.

Since I began Pawsome Pet Grooming, I have been encouraged to enter 2 grooming competitions (a handstrip of a Border Terrier last November for Groomalong) and a pet style competition of which I won second place and my awesome grooming buddy Tash (from Angels) won 1st. I have to admit Ive very much enjoyed these competitions and will hopefully be entering many more to come! The encouragement from the groomers/tutors at Angels is phenomenal and they make grooming sooo much fun and exciting to do!

I have also had fun taking my van up to Fielding to the National Dog Show and watching and learning about the different breeds and breed standards.

It has been busy, fun, exciting, oftentimes very wet 😅 and absolutely overloaded with adorableness and love.

Whoop - one year (and a bit over) down and hopefully many more to come.

Intelligent Indie back again and is improving immensely with her grooms. 🥰
Endearing Elfie came for his first groom with me. He was a very nervous boy and his parents have done a fantastic job desensitising him and reconditioning different parts of the grooming process. With patience, time and a lot of love, I believe Elfie will be a great boy to groom.

Magical Marley back again - she is a sweetheart whom I adore.
Dazzling Daisy has improved immensely in her grooms! We have discovered she will be possessed by the devil when her nails get clipped but an absolute angel if they're ground!
Terrific Toby gets soo excited but really is a fantastic boy to groom.
Magnetic Murphy is still working on getting used to the dryer but as long as he gets his belly rubs he's a very smoochy boy 🐶🐾

Fabulous Frankie (Freddie's new sister) in for her first puppy groom - she was fantastic and I can't wait to see her again.

Sassy Sailor in for a mini groom and in improving every time - Im super proud of this we boy and how far he's come!
Sweet siblings Bonnie and Clyde. Clyde is incredible in his grooms and Bonnie is still going strong - You'd never guess her age!
Bouncy Basil is really getting on well in his grooms - it's been a slow process but with TLC and patience, he is an awesome wee dude.

So this week I went back to Angels Grooming Centre Hei Hei Christchurch for some fun up-skilling!
I think it's so important as a groomer to always want to learn more, whether it's with handling, techniques, grooming styles. There's just soo much to learn! The tutors at Angels - Sam and Emma, are so talented and passionate about what they do and it's a privilege to learn from them (they are my inspiration and I can only hope that I follow in their footsteps).
Here are a couple of dogs - Hudson, Sadie and Buddy - Buddy was my hand strip which is a skill and as you can see, if this is done correctly, the pups can relax and not find it painful. I think he was more focused on getting a belly rub than anything else!
