❓ FUN FACT FRIDAY ❓ Addax need minimal water to survive, they could go their entire life without drinking freestanding water. They extract the moisture they need from desert grasses, succulents, other vegetation and morning dew that has condensed on leaves.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, this picture is worth 100,000 walruses!

See this and over 70 more incredible images at National Geographic’s The Greatest Wildlife Photographs exhibition on now until 30 April at Orana!

Evgenia Arbugaeva’s ghostly image of a walrus framed by the door of a wooden hut, was taken during Arbugaeva’s 2019 trip to the isolated village of Enurmino, Russia. She and an animal researcher spent three days trapped inside the hut, warmed by the body heat of the surrounding walruses, during a massive haul-out of the imposing creatures. They stayed as quiet as possible while some 100,000 walruses gathered on the shore, shook the walls of the flimsy shack, and fought outside.

Behind unforgettable animal encounters at Orana, is an educator with a wild passion for sharing nature’s wonders! This short inspirational video, was produced in collaboration with Chris Lynch to share the excitement and energy of school visits to Orana Wildlife Park.

Our team member Liz did an amazing job of getting that passion and commitment across! Our educators don’t just teach, they inspire! Whether it’s sparking curiosity in a child’s eyes or guiding a conservation conversation to drive motivation and action, they bring energy, empathy, and expertise to every moment.

𝗞𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸! The countdown is on to Kevin’s giraffe-sized road trip to ! Before he hits the highway, stop in over the weekend to say goodbye 👋, he’d love to see you one last time! We know you’ll miss his playful, cheeky, and curious nature as much as we will. While it’s hard to say goodbye, we’re excited for Kevin’s next chapter.

The team have been working closely with Kevin to get him familiar with his transport trailer during daily training sessions, this will help him to be as comfortable as possible for the journey north.

Kevin will be joining a bachelor herd at Hamilton Zoo with Masamba (22) and Jabali (2) and will continue to play a vital advocacy role for his species.

📸 We’ll be sharing updates from Kevin’s journey north, keep an eye on our stories for updates! If you spot Kevin on the road, we’d love you to tag us in your photo so we can share it.

Please note: The transfer date may shift depending on wind and sea conditions. Kevin’s comfort and safety are our top priority.
