If anyone is looking for calves this year get in touch!!

Thinking about getting a couple calves? Worried about having limited grass at the moment? Don’t let that put you off! This is actually the perfect time to get young calves because by the time they’re really ready to be eating grass it will be Spring and grass will be a plenty! This is much better than getting calves late in the season and running into a Summer drought which adversely affected some calves my clients had.

To rear the best, happy & healthy calves you feed them on milk twice a day for around 10 weeks (you can drop to once a day when they’re growing well), and then supplements like 20% Moosli and some nice hay to start nibbling on! They need shelter! This is important. You’ll note in my photos the calves have cosy rugs on them and I swear by these! They stop the calves using their energy to keep warm and means you have peace of mind when it’s still winter 🥶 A good barn or portable wee shelter is what little ones need too and trust me they’ll use it and be thankful for it!

Hi everyone! This is the last 2 weeks I will have available for routine jobs like drenching and hoof trims! From 22nd July I’ll be VERY busy with calving. I will be running my CALF DISBUDDING service again this season (calves are disbudded awake in my mobile crush, but are given local anaesthetic and long term pain relief). Like last year I will be dedicating one day per week and doing area specific runs so if you’re planning to get calves please get in touch early! Calves should be disbudded prior to 6 weeks of age. 🐮🤎🐮

Hi everyone! I have space this week and next week if you’re wanting any sheep/goats/cattle drenched. Goat/Sheep hoof trims too. Don’t forget I’m also offering “on property consultations” if you’re planning to get calves to rear this season! This includes assessing your paddock/shed, feeding equipment, milk replacer/moosli/additive recommendations after my years of trialling and working out what’s best! This will definitely help you raise safer, healthier and stronger calves so worth it in the long run!!

It’s been a pretty busy few weeks from drying off dairy cattle, drenching calves, drenching and hoof trimming goats and sheep as well as horse bodywork sessions! I have kept this upcoming week quieter due to the possible “storm” brewing but can fit in the odd jobs here and there, so get in touch if you need any animals done!

Next Darfield trip is Sunday 16th is now FULL. Sunday 23rd also in Darfield with space for another job. Will be in OXFORD Friday 21st June and have space for another job!

Don’t forget I’ll be FLAT OUT with calving from mid July (already have bookings for farm sitting in July school holidays!), as well as my calf disbudding run so keep me in mind if you’re planning to get calves this season 🐮🙋🏼‍♀️

This is one thing that really frustrates me about the NZ Dairy industry - killing calves at 4 days old. NZ is the only country still doing this! These calves can turn out to be lovely natured, big animals with many purposes later on. Last year I rehomed around 51 “bobbies” to other lifestyle block owners but there are thousands and thousands who aren’t as lucky. Something needs to change. 😩

If you’re hoping to get some calves this season, keep me in mind. I handle them all so when you collect them they’re friendly and quiet. ❤️

Regular hoof trims and attention is really important especially coming into Winter ❄️! This wee girl began limping, after a quick trim of the overgrown hoof, it was apparent the issue was between the toes - inflamed and pus 🤕 A thorough hoof trim followed by a good spray of tetravet and she’s now back to her happy self. With the winter time comes rain and mud and just makes these issues worse so keep their hooves maintained now ☑️

I’ve had such good up take on my Goat Hoof Trim & Drench combo offer!! All goats 🐐 had a much needed hoof trim as well as an oral combination and mineral drench. Drenching is really important in Autumn (if you don’t regularly drench your animals goats, cattle, sheep etc) then now IS the time to get them done! I carry cattle pour on drench too along with the cattle fly prevention drench to prevent those pesky flies on the few hot days we’re still getting!

I have had a busy week! Ranging from dealing with Fly Strike on a goat (horrible humid conditions!) 🐐 , giving advice and energy supplements to a down calf 🐮, to trying to balance out a rescue goats very unbalanced hooves! All are equally rewarding helping the animals feel better (although I’m not a huge fan of maggots 🤢) but also educating owners. I really enjoy the combined aspect of what I do and am always more than happy to give advice, especially if you are considering taking on a new species.

Never ignore your gut instinct! This is my little calf - Monty 🐮 He was born all sorts of wonky , couldn’t stand for his first 4 days, destined a Bobby but then a bullet because he couldn’t get on the truck. Of course I took him home- in the boot of my suv! Gentle massage of his leg joints, stretching the limbs and lots of patience, not to mention him coming that close to death the vet thought he was a goner, he is now the photo on the right!

Absolutely thrilled at how he has matured over almost 6 months of development and hard work 🤎

Thought others might like to see, as often you get lambs with similar issues and if you have the time and patience you can often correct it 🙌

A big thanks to all those who have used my services and trusted me with your beloved stock this year whether it be hoof trims, drenching, vaccinations, disbudding or farm sitting, it’s very appreciated and always tough starting out a new venture on your own but I’ve had some great feedback and repeat bookings so I’m fairly happy!

I love being with animals and ensuring the best welfare for them which I also try to achieve by making services as affordable as I can! I am very busy with farm sitting bookings over the holiday break so I am also available for small jobs including the fly drench 🪰 - my calves and cattle are MUCH happier now!
