I am a qualified Large Animal Veterinary Technician offering livestock services at affordable prices for lifestyle block owners. Ranging from daily/twice daily farm sitting, drenching, tailing/castrating, hoof trims for goats and sheep, teat sealing house cows, disbudding of calves, ear tagging, advice and education regarding sustainable stocking numbers/nutrition/animal welfare for those new to their lifestyle block.

CALF DISBUDDING !!

It’s almost that time again - CALVING ! Which means LOTS of calves… And the majority of dairy crossed calves WILL grow horns. Even a good percentage of beef crossed calves grow horns. The ideal time to get your calf disbudded is between 2 and 6 weeks of age. Calves over 6 weeks may be charged an “older calf fee” as by this age the horn bud has began fusing to the skull and calves tend to need extra sedation/pain relief etc. if you are unsure if your calf has horn buds, feel free to send me a picture of the calf’s head.

I am a qualified rural veterinary technician and all calves get sedated, given local anaesthetic and longer term pain relief. I can also castrate bull calves, give B12 injections or clostridial vaccinations if desired (recommended).

Upcoming day trips with space:

**CUST/OHOKA/RANGIORA - 8th July - 2 spaces

These will be some of the last big trips before calving and disbudding kicks off where I am FLAT OUT for 2-3 months, so please get in touch if you need a routine job doing (hoof trims, drenching, consulting etc)

Despite the freezing weather 🥶 it was a great day out in Fernside & Swannanoa with existing and new clients. I have such a rewarding job and I appreciate everyone’s trust and faith in my work!

⛄️ DONT GET CAUGHT SHORT THIS WEEK!⛄️

If you have covers for your animals, use them. A barn or good shed, put them in it or let them have access! Make sure you have plenty of hay/balage/grain etc. The weather is going to get nasty and if you don’t think you can handle sitting out in an open paddock with no shelter or food then your animals can’t either.

How well do you know the weight of your stock? Guess the weight of Maisy here, 4yo in calf Angus heifer…???

Weight has a lot to do with drenching, medication administration, diet and feeding requirements!! If you need help with any of these aspects, please get in touch

PS I’d LOVE to know your guesstimates on Maisy’s weight!?

Who else is OVER this blinking wet weather ☔️?!!

Feels like all I do is feed out and change layers!

I’m heading away this Friday for a week for a much needed break. Next big trips with limited space:

Some of you will have heard I lost one of my beautiful horses of 10yrs last night in an awful paddock accident. You never expect the unexpected. Now as I stand upset in the paddock as the digger is here burying him, one of my miracle pet cows “Monty” came over to me, resting his head against my leg and just standing gently chewing, not going anywhere. As human friends come and go, animal friends are with us forever. 🥺 Rest easy my big boy 🐎 🤎

For anyone still waiting on bookings to be confirmed or ones from today to be rescheduled I’ll get back to you over the next day or so

Client of a different kind today, poor cow has a suspected pinched nerve and cannot stand, red light is worth a try to help her! For those who don’t know, I am also a qualified Equine Sports Massage & Red Light Therapist 🐎🐮 Fingers crossed this lovely girl improves, will get another treatment tomorrow 🤞🏻

Gorgeous Teddy is going to be feeling MUCH better on his feet today after his hoof trim! Strangely for a young goat, his heel had grown so much it had spiralled inside between the toes causing uneven weight distribution hence the well overgrown hoof wall you can see.

Regular attention to hooves is so important!

I am organising a last minute DARFIELD day this coming Tuesday 22nd and have space for ONE more job! Hoof trims, drenching, calf disbudding, lifestyle block consulting etc

I have limited spaces available over next two weeks in areas within 20mins of Lincoln- message me for queries! Next North Canterbury trip will be about mid- May 🤩

MASSIVE day in Oxford & Cust with several new lovely clients today! 🐑 🐐 Even came home with some yummy snacks for my pet cows from one lovely regular 🍎 🥬

Oh and… If I could’ve snuck this gorgeous mini Donkey in my car without the owners noticing, I definitely would’ve 🙈🤩 Absolutely gorgeous little fella!
