Today we want to point out another important job behind the scenes of the equestrian sports. Photographers. 📷
The Art Of Michelle Clarke is one of those photographers that goes out of her way to get the perfect shot of the equines and their people, whether its raining or severely windy, Michelle is still out there photographing.
A little about Michelle:
She specializes in equestrian sports and editorial photography.
She has over 15 years of experience in the industry.
She is based in Canterbury of the South Island, and throughout the summer months she likes to travel around the country photographing different horse events. Predominantly she likes to photograph show jumping and eventing, but she will also occasionally photograph a handful of showing and dressage shows over the season. :)

Did you know, that pony clubs began in England in 1929 by Harry Faudel-Phillips to encourage children to start horse riding?
Memberships then began to increase, and the idea of pony clubs spread rapidly.
Pony Clubs were started up in New Zealand in 1944 and now there is 27 pony clubs in the greater Canterbury area! 🐴🇳🇿

Although it is easy to see top riders as just them and their horse, it is so important to remember they have a big team supporting them!
We would like to introduce you to Phillipa Gillies.
Phillipa is not just the mother to two of our team riders, Sam & Emma, but she is their groom, coach, manager and naturally their biggest fan.
Phillipa has been involved with horses her whole life, from riding to breeding. 🐴
Horses then formed an important part in her life which gives her a wealth of knowledge towards what makes a horse perform and achieve its full potential.
At the Saddlery Barn we find it a great pleasure working with Phillipa and her two daughters, towards helping reach their goals in show jumping! 🏆

We want to congratulate our three team riders Emma Gillies Samantha Gillies and KT Equestrian who all did very well at Tavendale and Partners New Zealand Jumping & Show Hunter Championship 🏆
It was fun to see some family competition when Emma and Sam were the only two in the jump off!
They both ended up going home with some serious laundry to do, especially Sam, as seen in this photo! 🍾
