WOW Saddles NZ

WOW Saddles NZ I specialise in 2nd hand WOW Saddles - they are like no other saddle ! I have been fitting WOWs for over 11 years. In the UK first then in NZ.

Concept :- Fit the seat to the Rider - Fit the Panels, Headplate & Girth to the Horse, Fit the Flaps to the Rider & the Discipline. Bolt it all together and you have a saddle that fits The Horse, The Rider and The Discipline with no compromise. I have been riding in one for over 13 years. I would not ride in anything else.

I love working equitation, I took part in the first ever competition in New Zealand 10 years ago and placed 2nd - also riding in a WOW saddle 😉 This is an awesome demonstration of the event.

What an amazing performance for Elise Hayzen and Truly Silver in their WOW Saddle jumping at NSEA National Championships at Hickstead.

😮 5th out of 82 in the 60cm open section

😲 9th out of 102 in the 70cm

🤯 9th overall champion out of 162 in the 60cm

"She came as a rearing rehab 9 months ago in a terrible saddle. Physio, rehab and WOW saddle has been critical getting her to this point! She was on six weekly saddle adjustments for a long time and the WOW allowed her to develop muscle in all the right places"

Saddle fitted by Clare from Bearhouse Saddlery and Saddle Fitting.

21 years ago today I became a WOW Saddle Fitter.
Half that time was spent in the UK, and the other half here in NZ. I was lucky enough to do some of my training at Richard Davison's yard and helped the company at Badminton horse trials a few times.
In those 21 years I have seen the company and their saddles evolve, met some amazing people and their horses, and I still believe it is THE BEST SADDLE on the market !

To celebrate, I am offering 're-fits' for $90 (normally $150) at 'Seafield Horse Park' in Spencerville until the end of August.

Or if you would like to try one of the many 2nd hand saddles I have for sale drop me a line - PM, Email: [email protected] or call: 021 026 00423

I thought some of you might find this interesting.

I thought some of you might find this interesting.

I pride myself in 'out of the box thinking' - here is one of my favourites.....

Rather than saying "my horse did this, or my horse did that", try interpreting what they are doing as questions :- "Can I go faster, can I put my head down, can I go over there" etc.

Once you have answered their question, you need to follow it up with what you do want :-
* "Can I go faster" ? - "No, and I want you to stay in a steady rhythmical trot"
* "Can I put my head down" ? - "Yes, but I want you to keep it forward and maintain your steady walking pace"
* "Can I go over there" ? - No, and I want you to walk in a straight line with your head forward "

Hopefully You get the gist.

This does not work with spooking as that is a reaction not a question, but afterwards they might say something like "Can I stay in this heightened scared state" and your reply could be "No, and I want you to do a figure of 8 while I ride in 'zen neutral' to bring both our energies down"

Hopefully at this point you realise there is no actual talking in this, just direction, body language and emotional control.

So instead of riding your horse, try and think about driving it, like a car or a bike, except it has a brain and it is going to ask you lots of questions that need answering.

In all the years I have been working with riders and their horses, I have found the horses whose rider does not have enough leadership skills for their horse, their horse tends to ask lots of questions ;) Or, the horse that has no idea what it is doing or where it is going, they too will ask lots of questions.

So....instead of 'riding' your horse, try 'driving' your horse.
Let me know how you get on x

*In the photo, Queenie asked if she could put her leg on the barrel and scratch her head while stretching her leg. I said yes, but asked her not to get too close so she didn't slide over the other side of it.
