How we came about.....
Christmas 2017 and my daughter Samantha had decided to buy a Viszla puppy as a surprise Chrissy Pressy for her partner Rob. Enter Dad, who was working in South Otago and daughter arranged for Dad to pick up puppy from Wanaka and bring him to our home till Christmas Eve. Robs face was absolutely awash when Sam bought Puppy out in a ribbon wrapped box and gave it to him - clas

sic! They decided to name the Pup Mac. Macs first few months were bad. He had caught Giardia the first week at home and nearly died. And was sick on and off for the next 12 months. When he was cold he shivered violently so Sam asked me to make him a polar fleece coat to keep him warm. He loved them! He has skin allergies from grass seeds and the coats help protect his skin when out and about so he has quite a collection. He s funny, loving, snuggly boy who has wormed his way into our families hearts and we would nt have him any other way! After a few people started asking Sam where she had got the coats, we decided to start a Facebook business and Mac-dog Coats was born. I draft the pattern up from the individuals dogs measurements and then sew them after work and on weekends. This year (2019) has been really busy and is showing no signs of waning yet. I always ask for 2 weeks for delivery after payment and order is made, but often I get them done sooner so dont be surprised if they show up in your letterbox fairly quickly. I stand by my product and I will rectify any problems at no cost if its something I ve done wrong. But if its because the customer has measured wrong, I will charge a fee for the repairs or changes plus postage. The coats pictured are made up samples and not for sale at the moment as I am going to be out at the Swannanoa Country Fair this Sunday 11th from 10am to 3pm.
Come on out and check out the new coats which you can order.

These coats are 100% Waterproof on the outside and are padded with warm fleece on the inside and a showerproof Nylon fabric inner layer for ease of cleaning.
They can be made with a reflective stripe across the middle for evening walking and have a D ring attached for the leash as an option.

The Blue Camo one is Large size and would fit a Vizsla, Gsp etc and the other 2 are for smaller dogs like Dashies, Foxies, Jack Russells, Terriers etc.
These coats can be made up to any size as long as I have the fabric available.
There is a new multi coloured one arriving this week as well.

Hi Everyone. Happy to say Im recovering well from my surgery and have spent the last month doing some sewing to keep my eye in! lol.
I have made a few "Rash Vests" for a client whose dog gets grass seed allergies. These are made out of stretchy fabrics and reasonably light. I have also made one in a pretty pink/bluey colour with hind legs in it as well. (See pics below)
I ve just finished a lovely showerproof jacket for a small dog that is for sale as well. Its got an inner layer of fleece for warmth in between 2 layers of oxford nylon cloth for easy cleaning.

I ve had the past few months recovering from surgery so not too much sewing has been happening.
But am well on the road to recovery.

Macdogcoats is now closed for orders this season.
Im off for some major surgery in a week so wont be taking on any more sewing for a while.

Im thinking of doing some towelling drying coats in the summer. Ideal for after a swim or a bath. Possibly could be used as a cooling coat when wetted down, so keep an eye out for a post in a few months.

Loki now has 2 Macdog coats. This one in Camo Dark blue is a "snood" neck one for him to keep out the cold from his ears. The snood necks are quite popular this year.
Then we have Bentley in his new Nightwatch tarten coat. He s a Rhodesian Ridgeback big boy!.
The Minty green and Black check is Bella. Shes a Viz/Thai Ridgeback who is enjoying the warmth of this new coat.
