AmigoReal is a Dogs New Zealand–registered Chihuahua kennel in Christchurch, New Zealand. At AmigoReal, health, structure, and temperament are paramount.

Inspired by the breed’s heritage, our name “Amigo Real” means “Royal Friend” in Spanish, reflecting our deep admiration for these exceptional dogs. The foundation and heart of our kennel is New Zealand Champion Harriet Taylor of Kapowai. Harriet, a stunning tricolour Chihuahua, is renowned for her regal presence and impeccable movement. Though now retired from the show ring and breeding, Harriet c

ontinues to reign as the beloved ruler of our hearts and home. To ensure our Chihuahuas are as healthy and structurally sound as they are beautiful, we conduct DNA tests to eliminate hereditary conditions and perform comprehensive screenings: eyes, heart, patellas, hips (including Legg-Calvé-Perthes), and thyroid (T4). In 2020, we introduced rigorous protocols that set a new benchmark in New Zealand. For transparency, we proudly display each dog’s health results on their profile. We provide a nurturing environment and socialisation to raise well-rounded Chihuahuas. By exposing our Chihuahuas to diverse sights, sounds, and gentle handling, we cultivate confidence, adaptability, and resilience—whether they excel in the show ring or become treasured companions. Emphasising quality over quantity, we produce champions who excel in conformation and companions that embody the Chihuahua’s spirited charm. We stand behind every dog we breed, forming lifelong relationships with puppy families and offering support. Should a return become necessary, we guarantee a safe, loving home here at AmigoReal. Happy 6th Birthday to the one and only Leonardo (Leo) KOR CH & NZ CH Neo Fabulous King of Hearts ♥️

Leo has made an incredible impact on my kennel, leaving his mark not just through his stunning looks and beautiful temperament, but through the legacy he is building here at AmigoReal. He is a huge part of why AmigoReal has become so successful and loved today.

Leo is also our little choir boy – never one to miss out on the action! He loves to start a song at the most “perfectly” inconvenient moments, like ringside while his children or grandchildren are in the ring. Life is certainly never dull with him around!

We are so proud of everything he has achieved and grateful every day for the joy, laughter, and heart he brings. Here’s to our King of Hearts – and to many more wonderful years ahead! ♥️

Happy 4th Birthday to my two favourite boys –
Ch AmigoReal Ace of Spades (Ace) & AmigoReal King of Diamonds (Kingston)!

Born on Anzac Day, 25.04.2021, these two have been stealing hearts and making me proud ever since.

From the show ring to the sofa, they’re the perfect blend of charm, character, and companionship.
