**UPDATE: Thanks everyone who’s been in touch - we may have a match 😊- TBA soon** Rosie’s dad has gone into a retirement village so she needs a new home. This much loved 7 year old girl has a lovely gentle nature, and would make a loyal companion for a person or couple. She is not cat-friendly (you can’t be perfect right ?!) and she hasn’t lived with children before so suitability for a family is unknown. She has been checked over and other than mild dental tartar , is otherwise fit and healthy. If you’re interested in meeting Rosie please contact Thea at the clinic 033843075

UPDATE: He has been found 🙂
HAVE YOU SEEN BOBBY??
He was last sighted in Redcliffs but was spooked and in full flight, possibly trying to get home to South Shore area. He will not come if approached. Please ph 027-259-6437 or 021-254-4986 if you have seen him, or know where he is. If possible close him in as he will, as I said, not allow you to come close and will bolt again. If you ph the above no we will come and get him. His name is Bobby and he is wearing a harness. He is also micro chipped.

Paddy walked, so Mittens could run 🐾

On this day in 1939, Wellington's treasured Paddy the Wanderer sadly passed away. Paddy was an Airedale Terrier believed to have been once called ‘Dash’ and was gifted to a young girl named Elsie, daughter of a seaman. Elsie, her mother and Dash, would often go to the wharves to greet her father's ship. In 1928, three-year-old Elsie died of pneumonia and in his grief, Dash ran away from home and being familiar with the Wellington docks, settled in amongst the familiar faces of the sailors and workers. He befriended cabbies and sailors, who began referring to him as Paddy.

Paddy was quite the traveller. He visited many other ports in Aotearoa and is thought to have crossed the Tasman on more than one occasion. Some say he even went as far as San Francisco! But he always found his way back home to Wellington.

Just as Paddy adopted the waterfront, the community adopted him. Taxi drivers and dockyard employees raised money for a collar and registration. This went on for years until the Wellington Harbour Board took responsibility for Paddy and bestowed on him the title of ‘Assistant Night Watchman in Charge of Pirates, Rodents and Smugglers.’

Against one wall of the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts Wellington is a special memorial for Paddy the Wanderer, which was unveiled in 1945. Consisting of a brass plaque mounted above a drinking fountain, with two drinking bowls for dogs at ground level, which was paid for by Paddy's many friends.

A life-sized statue of Paddy is proudly on display here at Wellington Museum and each year we renew the registration of Paddy to keep his legacy alive. Paddy was gifted the first aluminium One Tag by Wellington City Council when they were introduced last year– with the honour of having 001 engraved on his.

Pictured is Paddy in Wellington, 1935 via the Alexander Turnbull Library.

ROAD WORKS
With the current roadworks happening on Tidal View, it is a bit of a mission getting into the clinic carpark. The only entrance is off Humphreys Drive heading South.
If you are coming from the South, eg Sumner or Redcliffs etc, the best way is to head north on Ferry Road, turn right on to Dyers Road, right onto Linwood Ave and carry on to Humphreys drive with a left turn into the carpark.
It makes the journey a bit of a trek, but much safer than U-turns on high speed, high traffic roads.
Drive safe 🐾
