You’re checking the herd one morning and all looks good….. except for one cow off to the side. She may be constantly kicking her belly and have a horribly distended left flank – obvious tell-tale signs of bloat. ‘Bugger’, you think to yourself. If a healthy herd starts inside, it’s certainly not starting that way today.

Mineral bloat oil has been seen as the most cost-effective option for controlling dairy cattle bloat. Unfortunately, it's very short-lived. So is there a better treatment for the bloated cows?

Taranaki Vet Centre Farm is seeing bloat deaths on multiple farms who are treating with lower doses of bloat oil - please read the label.
The risk is very high right now.
Go and check your cows shortly after shifting to a new paddock if you have concerns. Be sure to discuss Rumenox with your farm supplies manager or vet.

We have had bloat deaths on multiple farms who are treating with lower doses of bloat oil. Please check your bloat oil label and ensure you are on the highest preventative dose. The risk is very high right now. Go and check your cows shortly after shifting to a new paddock if you have concerns.

Rumenox is another good control method. It can be used alone or simultaneously. Discuss with your farm supplies manager or vet.
