Funds are TIGHT !!!! 😬😭
Tomorrow is the 20th of the month, which means all our accounts are due - vet bills, internet, phone, insurance, fuel etc.
On the 1st our lease is due and as of right now, there’s just not enough there.
It’s been a while since I’ve had to make a plea like this, and I hate it because I know that nearly every single household is also struggling. But if you can spare a coffee or snack today, please consider making a donation for the dogs. If you need some new clothing or goodies, please consider buying something from our online store. It’s dire! Rescues are struggling now more than ever (all rescues, so if you can’t help us, consider helping your local with some donations of things they need).

🐾 ADOPT ME - Teenie 🐾

We still have no idea how this girl hasn’t been snapped up yet! She has the best expression on her face - her lips & teeth often to the most weird things, it just makes her even more awesome!

Teenie is 2.5 years old & is in foster care with 5 teenagers, she loves getting to pick who she sleeps with at night! She has been attending Canine Good Citizen training with one of our trainers, to experience different environments.

She is great with dogs, but can need some management as if they allow her to get away with being a bully she will be one, if they tell her to stop being a bully she will take note & behave. She attended the Templeton Pool Party at the start of the year with around 50 dogs & was in play date heaven! She eager to please & super food motivated, so makes training a dream but is not suited to live with cats.

Teenie is desexed, vaccinated, microchipped & registered & like all our dogs is destined to be family dog that sleeps indoors with the rest of the family.

Clara from Canine Care, Dog Training and Behaviour has kindly included us in her weekly nail trimming sessions at Best for Pets each Wednesday afternoon. This gives us the opportunity to get our dogs into different environments & also practice touching feet & trimming nails. Even if we dont get to trim a nail on the first visit, we are setting the dog up for success later 🥰

💕 Special Home Needed – Adoption or Foster For Life 💕

Sandi came to us from Hurunui Pound, she is the sweetest girl & has quickly become a volunteer favourite. We have estimated her to be around 6 year old but her body has not aged well.

When she arrived, we could see that there was something off with her body, so we had xrays done of her rear legs & spine. It turns out Sandi has arthritis from the top of her tail up to the start of her ribs & it will continue to move up her spine.

This doesn’t slow her down at all, she still does her tippy tappy dance when we go into her run, she jumps up on the couch for cuddles & will happily trot along for a good hour walk each day. It does mean that she will need on-going medication to help with the pain she definitely is in, but as a typical bull breed, is not showing it.

She is not suited to live with cats at all & is very selective with dogs. She is obviously concerned about dogs being around her with her sore body, so really needs to be in a home where she is the only dog.

We would love to be able to find this old girl a warm, comfy home where she is treated like the gem she is & can receive the care she needs.

🐾 Adopt Me - Moose 🐾

Some of you may have seen our post on Moose when he arrived with us back in June. Since then he has gone into foster care & is now living semi-rural with 6 other dogs & absolutely loving their active home life.

We initially thought that he had elbow dysplasia, but after more xrays it turns out he had a break in his growth plate that was never corrected, which has caused fusion in the joint. He is on a monthly injection of Beransa which is really helping him, so this would be an on-going cost of around $150 per month. The other alternative is for us to do an amputation of his front leg.

The issue with his elbow does not slow him down but it is going to be limiting for him in some scenarios. He has been coming along to all our events, has been used for our dog reactive training & new dog assessments. He has been amazing in every situation we have put him in. He is also fantastic with cats, but can find little people a tad overwhelming.

He is desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, registered & like all our dogs are destined to be family dog that sleeps indoors with the rest of the family.

COMMUNITY REHOME - NORTH ISLAND PEOPLE
Please help us rehome Doug!

Doug (Duggie) is a a lovely big fella but he is not suited to his current owners who both work full time and cannot give him what he needs. He was a pound pup adoption approx. 18mths ago. He is a big boy but still lean, he will likely fill out as they tend to do. He really needs someone who understands mastiffs and/or Bordeaux breeds and the boundaries they need to be great pets (DNA test done).

He is located in the Waikato (Nth Isl) which we appreciate is far from Christchurch, but we are hopeful that the community of bull breed lovers goes far and wide and there may be contacts up here.

Doug is an 18mth old Male, be is desexed, chipped, vaccinated and registered.

He has been living with 2 cats, but due to the prey instinct he shouldn't be left alone with them without an escape route (for the cats). He has not been around kids a lot, but seems fine with them when visiting or when camping. He is not livestock trained.

Doug is high energy. He is good riding beside a bicycle and has been on runs with a 4wheel bike and loved it. He has been out fishing a few times too, and was very well behaved.
In his current residential abode, is a fence jumper, well he was until some "extensions" were added to the top of the fences. He never went far and often came around to the front door.

Rehoming any dog is a hard decision, as this one is, but the current owners really need to him in a better place with someone that can manage him as he deserves.

Thank you to everyone who came along to our Funday yesterday! We had a great time – not only was it an amazing turnout, but we had great weather & some really lovely, well-behaved dogs to cuddle, what more could you ask for on a Saturday ❤

We are very excited about our Funday at Best for Pets tomorrow & the forecast is for a stunning day 🌞

🐕 Please remember ALL dogs must be on lead & please only bring the dogs that will enjoy themselves.

🐄 Best For Pets are running the buy one donate one hoof promo tomorrow for us, so it is a great day to buy your hooves & give to us at the same time. This will also be available from their website if you cant make it in.

⭐️ 10am starting the day is Kathleen from The Balanced Dog. If your pups have winter aches & pains or you have a question for Kathleen please pop in & say hi, she will have her doggy massage table all set up, just in case.

☕️ Sausages will be already for purchase from 10.30am & coffee arrives at 11.15. I know I will be ready for one by then!

NEW ARRIVAL - Welcome to CBBR Roxy! Our latest arrival from the CCC Pound, this wee staffy x is just the biggest cuddle bug. She loves nothing more than to curl up in your lap and snuggle as often as possible.
We regularly see posts on lost/found dog pages saying “don’t call the pound, they’ll be dead in a week” which just couldn’t be further from the truth. Our pound here in Chch is full of dog lovers! Roxy was pick up on April 9th and they have doted on her every day since then, hoping her perfect people would come along or a space with us would become available. Euthanasia was never in their minds.
She’s currently settling in to life with us, learning her new routines and getting to know us all. We can’t wait to match her with her happily ever after ❤️❤️
