One of the things I’m most proud of that CBBR has done over the years is provide food parcels out to multiple other community groups & have an open gate policy where people can call in & ask for food if they need help.
This morning this guy came in & did just that. While he was politely giving us smiles, please & thankyous & commenting on the dogs, he placed his bag on top of my wallet & keys, shuffled the food around a wee bit, created a distraction like a true opportunist then politely said his goodbyes & headed home with his free food … & my stuff.
It took me all of 2 minutes to register what he’d done but due to not having any bloody keys, my chase was slightly delayed. I caught up with him just as he was arriving home & boy was he all of a sudden not the polite man who just asked us for help.
Being a female on my own, he typically tried to intimidate me but I was staying until the police arrived. He took his dog & his free bag of food inside, came back out & tried some more intimidation, then road off on his e-scooter.
This isn’t a ‘help me find this guy’ post. This is just an angry rant from a goddamn charity shelter worker who still had to spend the day working running off adrenaline while also cancelling all of my life & rescue admin that was in my wallet along with replacing ignitions, locks & keys.
