Recently, one of our foster team posted a video onto our closed group page of her own dog. She lives rurally, has 5 dogs and farm fencing. Wes is a nearly 2yr old mastiff mix just under 60kg. He had recently started chasing rabbits and decided to slip through the wire farm fencing and go exploring. For those that don’t live rurally, you may or may not know that a farmer has every legal right to shoot & kill a roaming dog on their property. We don’t want a dog getting zapped by electric fences and we certainly don’t want to see a friendly dog being shot because he was exploring the wrong paddock. So our fosterer employed a tactic she had used before to keep him safe. While he was out in the paddocks she attached him to an 800g empty water container on a rope, so that if he managed to slip through the wire fencing, the water container would act as a stopper as it wouldn’t fit through the fencing gaps.
Another member of the page took exception to this technique and decided to contact me to resign as a member of our fostering team and tell me exactly what she thought of me and the rescue. That I condone humiliating, intimidating and hurting dogs & I’m an abusive dickhead bully. She was so upset with my response (which I though was very polite) that she decided to make a slightly embellished welfare complaint to the SPCA regarding both our foster and the rescue. Full credit to the SPCA, they immediately began an investigation and after reviewing the video and chatting with us they quickly determined there was no welfare issue. Not liking this response either, they have now taken to slandering us to the wider community.

How are we ok as a country putting animals through this every year? And it’s not just 1 night, it goes on and on for the rest of the year from now.
If you see a petition for banning the public sale of fireworks, please sign it. All of them. Please support rescues instead of buying fireworks. And please if you are a person who wants to let them off, PLEASE have the courtesy to let your neighbours know so they can prepare their animals as best they can. I hate the “but my dogs ok with them” excuse. Thousands aren’t 💔
