Cats Protection League Canterbury - NZ is doing amazing work to help cats!! Get in touch with them if you need to have your cat speyed or neutered

We know times are tough so for a limited time we are offering desexing and microchipping for $10 per cat (must be 4 months or older) for people on a low income in Christchurch. Here are some more details for Saturday’s Halloween party friends!
1. At Takurua Vets from 9AM - 12PM. Dress up the family dress up the pets and come show off your costumes, have a nosey around our clinical, get some treats and win some prizes!
2. Capture those awesome outfits with a special spooky photoshoot by - have a look at her page, she does amazing pet portraits!
3. Time to break out all the moves, don’t hold back, we would love to see your pets’ tricks.
4. will be there and they’re sponsoring some awesome prizes for best dressed and best tricks
5. Going away for the weekend? No worries, you can still participate in our online giveaways! Snap some photos and use our hashtags for a chance to win - we will give some hints later this week on the prizes 🤩🤩

Pet poisoning spotlight: Ethylene glycol (antifreeze) toxicity.
Antifreeze is super toxic to pets, it tastes sweet which makes them more likely to have a wee lick at it if they find it. As little as two teaspoon can be fatal for a medium sized dog. Timely intervention is key! I saw a case this week where the owners luckily saw the dog drink the antifreeze, we intervened immediately and had a good outcome. I’ve also seen this go the other way which is pretty awful, so please keep this stuff out of reach of pets (and kids) and contact your vet asap if you suspect your pet got into some antifreeze!

Such great news that this gorgeous boy found a home! He had a flap of skin growing over his nostrils that made it really hard for him to breathe. Grateful that we could help to make his life a bit easier. Happy adoption day Caramello 😻

Handsome Caramello came into our care as part of a large colony of strays. Shy at first, he gradually gained in confidence which was helped along by nose widening surgery at Takurua Vets Riccarton Ilam . Lovely to see him go to his new home today. :)

It is Vet Nurse awareness/appreciation week so grab the tissues because I’m about to tell you about one amazing woman! 🥲
This is our full time Nurse, my right hand person, Katy. Those of you who have met her in clinic would know just how lovely, knowledgeable and caring she is. A Vet nurse bold and brave enough to venture into the unknown and take on a start up with me, I told her going into this that we will need do what ever it takes to make Takurua Vets work - and she has taken this role above and beyond any of my wildest expectation! From the moment she stepped into this role her patients have been her number one priority. She’s carried me and this clinic on her hands from day one. One of our foundational values at Takurua is to always strive to do things 1% better, every task we take on, we take on with intention and see how we can improve on it 1% to get better outcomes for our patients, clients, staff and our community. She has been steering that ship every step of the way and we are continuously improving how we do things under her guidance! Whatever it takes even occasionally means entertaining my daughter Illya while I’m in consult ( ) … anyway I can go on all night but I’ll leave it at that before I start crying! She doesn’t have social media so come show her some love and appreciation in clinic because she’s bloody awesome!! 🤩
