Omega One fish food is no longer being imported into New Zealand. Many are unaware of this. If you regularly feed this brand, it's time to start transitioning your fish to new foods. Transitioning is better than suddenly changing a food.

Amazon leaffish (Monocirrhus polyacanthus)
It is found in the Amazon basin in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Peru and Venezuela, where it inhabits edges of rivers and lakes, and streams. It is generally a low-density species that lives in slow-moving or essentially stagnant waters in areas with plant debris.
The Amazon leaffish reaches a maximum standard length of 8 cm and a total length of 10 cm. As suggested by its common name, it closely resembles a dead leaf. The flattened body and filament at the tip of the lower jaw (resembling a stalk) further enhances its similarity to a leaf. It is gray-brown, but can change its color to some extent. There is no lateral line and its large mouth can be protracted to as much as 60% of the head length.
It swims very slowly in a head-down position, resembling a dead leaf floating in the current, to approach its prey. When near, it protracts its mouth to form a tube. The prey is rapidly sucked in, usually head-first. Prey in its stomach is often folded, allowing the leaffish to fit relatively large items.
Definitely live food eaters if you are interested! Fascinating to watch, especially feeding time!

African Butterfly Fish or Freshwater Butterflyfish (Pantodon buchholzi)
Freshwater butterfly fish are small, no more than 13 cm in length, with very large pectoral fins. It has a large and well-vascularized swim bladder, enabling it to breathe air at the surface of the water. It is carnivorous, feeding primarily on aquatic insects and smaller fishes.
The freshwater butterflyfish is a specialized surface hunter. Its eyes are constantly trained to the surface, and its upturned mouth is specifically adapted to capture small prey along the water's surface. If enough speed is built up in the water, a butterflyfish can jump and glide a small distance above the surface to avoid predation. It also wiggles its pectoral fins as it glides, with the help of specialized, enlarged pectoral muscles, the ability which earned the fish its common name.
Ours are eating Hikari Micro Pellets and dried Mysis Shrimp.

Last four Baby beardies for this season, and two already presold. Been great to have a good supply of healthy dragons this year. We also have one leopard gecko looking for forever home.
We actually have some shelf bugs still available. Has been rare over the last few months of heavy demand.
We have seen slowing and first few dragons entering brumation, seems early this year!

Lots of queries about when the lake will be open again, as it was closed last year for maintenance. Heart breaking to say the least - pond was filled up and 1/2 emptied over night a week ago. Staffing climbing in soon found out why. Our 23 year old liner is stuffed, boots straight through it. It's a major reline now. Not sure when it will be done to be honest 😔 Video shows the damage.
