𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐛 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐬

Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata) is a climbing plant native to the Americas, specifically North America and South America and is a popular herb used primarily for its calming and stress-relieving properties. It is one of the ingredients in our effective Steady Steed formulation due to its ability to promote relaxation and improve behavior naturally. Historically, the plant has been used for its calming properties in humans, and more recently, its benefits have been extended to horses. The herb is renowned for its ability to soothe anxiety and reduce stress, making it an excellent option for horses exhibiting behavioral issues.

One of the benefits of Passionflower is how it naturally calms your horse without making them sluggish. It works gently on the nervous system, helping horses who tend to get anxious or stressed - whether it's from new surroundings, training pressures or the stress caused at competitions. The great thing is, it doesn’t dampen their energy or drive. Instead, it helps take the edge off, allowing them to feel more relaxed and focused, making them much easier to handle and train without taking away their spark!

Passionflower is fantastic when it comes to calming those anxious situations where your horse may get stressed or behave badly. It helps support the production of GABA, a neurotransmitter that works to ease nervousness and encourage's relaxation. For horses that get nervous or stressed it can help to settle their nerves and improve focus when those tricky situations can create anxiety for both horse and rider.

🧠 Very interesting info on a Placebo-Controlled Trial that investigates the effect of Withania also known as ASHWAGANDHA 🌿 This herb, long used in traditional medicine, has been the subject of growing interest for its potential benefits in reducing stress, improving cognitive function, and even supporting overall physical health. This is definitely worth a read! Check it out below. 👇

A randomised, double blind, placebo-controlled trial (n=120; 12 weeks) investigated the effect of Withania (Ashwagandha) root extract (standardised to 1.5% total withanolides; 200 mg twice daily) in overweight middle-to-older age adults experiencing high stress and fatigue

Levels on the Perceived Stress Scale (primary outcome) fell significantly in the Withania group; however, these decreases were not significantly different to placebo (p=0.867). But on the Chalder Fatigue Scale there was a large and statistically significant decrease in fatigue symptoms within the herbal group vs placebo (p=0.016)

Participants taking Withania also had a significant elevation in heart rate variability (p=0.003), suggesting better autonomic nervous system regulation. This HRV data analysis suggests that Withania was specifically associated with increased parasympathetic activity, which is typically associated with reduced stress levels. There were no significant between-group differences in other self-reported outcome measures.

For the men taking Withania, there was a significant increase in blood concentrations of free testosterone (p=0.048) and luteinizing hormone (p=0.002) vs placebo

"Echo and Bessie are the most important members of the team (obviously) and they have to be on the top of their game no matter what!
Both our girls get Flexidog daily with their dinner, it’s super palatable and easy to add to their food. Ensuring it gives the girls the support they need to run laps all day long.
Echo is starting to feel mild arthritis in her feet, from an accident when she was a puppy leaving her with messed up paws. We have noticed a huge difference especially over winter when she gets up, often limping and was visibly stiff… She stopped feeling that pretty soon after starting flexidog. Gets up from bed and can just go no matter how cold the start.
We love this product and it’s something that I will be buying time and time again, gives me the perfect peace of mind that the girls can run all day without feeling it… Definitely would recommend this product for anyone who has active or older dogs, we look after our horses joints - why not the dogs!
