Blue lake green beans + golden yellow neem beans + purple string beans ❤️

We have been growing this combo for the last few years. Sadly none of our blue lake green beans have flowered or produced any beans this year. To compensate our purple beans have had their best year yet!

Our vege bags are looking ka rawe. We have x2 spare bags this week - $30 ea. Please send us a P.M if you want one :)

So much abundance! Our regenerative growing practices are really starting to make a difference & the veges don't lie. 🥒 🍅 🫛 Happy veges are tastier, last longer in the fridge & are so much healthier for our tinana (bodies).

The māra kai is overflowing with veges so we are going to start 2025 off with a bang and open up 4 more vege & salad spaces. 💚 ☀️ (only 5 weeks left for the Summer Vege Season)

Looking back on the last 12 months we are so appreciative of all the rawe tangata who make our garden so special!

Our māra kai is back open on the 6th of January from 10-12.30 am.

Meri Kirihimete! 🎄♥️

This year has been full of so many good things - new people, connections, and lots of new veges 💚. We are feeling so grateful for all the ataahua people who have shaped our māra kai over the past 12 months.

As we go into the holiday season we’re inspired by the story of Ihu Karaiti - who embodied manaakitanga and love for all. May we as individuals and as a community be able to experience and extend that this holiday season.

See you in the new year! The māra kai and working bees are closed for the next few weeks. Our first working bee will be on the 6th of January.

Big news from Sophie & the board of trustees: “On behalf of the Board of Trustees I would like to congratulate Melanie Lee on her successful application to the Seasonal Gardener role at Addington Farm. Many of you will know Mel as one of the farm's regular, and highly competent volunteers. We are very happy to have Mel with us every Tuesday and Wednesday”.

We will be welcoming Mel to her new role this Wednesday morning at 9.30am. Come along if your keen to tautoko :)

Such a ataahua day at the Addington Fun Fair. Making new connections with so many locals was a real highlight.

We held a "guess that vege" challenge during the fun fair. People who passed the challenge went in the draw for a free vege bag... congratulations to Michelle Peddie, who was randomly selected to be our winner.

What's on this week in the māra kai?

Monday: 1-4 pm working bee. 1.30-2.30 seedling club.

Monday: 4 - 4.45 pm opening ceremony for the new 🌈 🌈 mural. Please come along and support this beautiful expression of inclusion.

Tuesday: 10.30am -12.30 harvesting. 1 - 4.30 pm washing and packing veges.
Wednesday: no working 🐝.

Addington Fun Fair is all go. We have got hundreds of seedlings 🌱 CORN 🌽, Tomatoes 🍅, Pumpkins 🎃, Kamokamo.

We have also got a free make your own microgreens activity for free. Come say kia ora 👋

It’s the last week for our Spring-Vege-Season. Here are some highlights of māra kai life from the past 13 weeks…

- We supported a group of Sacred Heart kura students each Wednesday to learn how to grow kai in our māra. 🌱🥬

- The big pollination insect study started and we found some sweat bees and native wasps 🐝

- Chelsea started the Addington Farm inclusion group - this group plays an active role in outworking our commitment to upholding te Tiriti & creating safe spaces for our rainbow whānau 🌈.

- We celebrated potatoes & kicked off our bucket potato growing competition 🍠.

- We planted out hundreds and hundreds of summer vege seedlings - tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers, basil, green beans YUM 🍅🫛.

Flashback to last SUMMER! 🌽 🍅🥕🥒🫛

We 💚 growing kai for our community & our SUMMER-VEGE-SEASON has opened for sign-ups. The sign-up link is in our bio.

We sell our veges using a subscription method for getting your veges directly from our māra kai. We love growing to the seasons & we ask locals to sign up for one-season blocks. This allows us to plan ahead and make better use of our māra kai space.

Options:
🌽 🍅 Love local vege share - 6-9 vege items (Inc. salad mix) ($30pw)
or
🥗 Premium salad share - 250g ($12pw - filled with microgreens, edible flowers, and a variety of lettuce).

What's on this week in the māra kai?
+ Monday: Seedling club from 1.30 - 2.30 pm. We are re-potting sweet corn.
+ Monday working bee 1 - 4.30 pm. We are planting summer veges, harvesting & preparing beds for more tomatoes.
+ Tuesday: Morning harvesting 10.30 - 12.30 pm. Afternoon washing and bagging kai 1-4 pm.
+ Wednesday: Working bee (planting & worm farming) 1 - 4.00pm.
+ Tī & kōrero 7-8pm @ Mānuka Cottage on Wednesday . Come along and practise your reo Māori whilst playing kemu. All welcome.
