Easter is almost here. Remember to keep your Easter Treats away from your pets!
Easter brings celebration but it also brings a lot of toxic dangers around for your pets. Beware of Easter lilies, they can be fatal if consumed. Keep chocolate treats, lolly wrappers and decorations well away from pets - chocolate is toxic to cats and dogs and the wrappers and decorations could potentially cause bowel obstructions.

A great video of my old girl playing with Macy. At 14 she’s still happy to play with Macy and interact with us all.
We just wanted to say big Thank you to our lovely clients who have been bringing in us many Christmas treats 🍫🍰🍬 They have been very appreciated and helped us get through our busy days. Thank you 😊
This week Lola had another fantastic session with Kate Donald at Good Dog Spa. Kate continues to work with Lola to improve her strength, mobility and vitality and she's doing so well for her age! Exercising on the Aquatread uses the buoyancy of water to minimise weight-bearing on joints, and reduces stress on tissues, allowing exercise to be more comfortable. It assists Lola to exercise in an upright position encouraging confidence, normal posture and gait pattern. Resistance provided by the water strengthens and tones the muscles and improves cardiovascular fitness. Massage and aqua therapy with Kate has become a fortnightly session for Lola and she really does love her time with her. The lickimat also helps a great deal and is a great incentive!!
Last week Lola had a delightful 45 minute session with the lovely Kate from Good Dog Spa. Kate Donald is a Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner who specialises in Physical Rehabilitation and Hydrotherapy. Lola started with a massage which included some stretching and then took a spin in the underwater treadmill. Lola really enjoyed her session on the treadmill (as well as all the treats!) and is looking forward to seeing her again this week 😁
Macy and Mavis having a morning play. Lola and Macy have been fabulous for puppies that need safe friendly socialisation.
My dear friend Jean gets her little Cocker spaniel “Alice” in 2 weeks. Here she is playing with her little mates already coming to her name.
My dearest friend Jean is getting one of these adorable healthy little Cocker Spaniel pups in about 4 weeks. She’ll be called Alice - simply can’t wait to meet her
Cancer and chemotherapy are scary words for most of us, and often pet owners fear that treating the illness will have a far too heavy impact on the quality of life of their beloved pets. In this video, Sara explains a few facts about treating cancer in pets, and talks us through the case of lovely Coco, whose cancer is now in remission. For any questions, don’t hesitate to contact the McMaster & Heap team on www.mcmasterheap.co.nz
Vet Catherine talks us through the case of 17-year-old Sam, who was brought to the clinic for not eating & vomiting. Sam is a strong cat and a very good eater, so it was unusual and heartbreaking to see him weak and in pain! After some tests, Catherine used the ultrasound machine to investigate structural changes in his liver in a safe and pain-free procedure. Sam couldn't be in better hands with Catherine! If you have any questions about this procedure or any other matter, don't hesitate to get in touch with our team http://mcmasterheap.co.nz/
Our new vet Olivia talks about puppy care, and sheds some light on the most important health checks that your new pup needs to undergo for a healthy and happy life. Good news- All these adorable Chihuahua pups are strong and in good health! If you have any questions, or if you need any assistance with your new puppy, don’t hesitate to get in touch http://mcmasterheap.co.nz/
HELPING A CLIENT IN NEED! 4 males and 7 females young Chihuahuas need loving homes. A sudden bereavement in the family of our long-time client Steve has forced him to re-home 11 of his precious little Chihuahuas, aged between 4 and 18 months (you can see them here hanging out at the clinic). This is very hard for Steve, but he's downsizing his house and can’t take all his dogs with him. They have been vet checked, and even though they were a little nervous at the start, they are all healthy and happy. We are offering a discounted spay and vaccination package at McMaster & Heap Vets for anyone keen to take on one of these cute little dudes. The males have been castrated but need their vaccinations. If anyone is interested in one of these puppies, please call our Practice on 03 338 2534. Thanks in advance for your help!
Did you know that one of the main reasons why pets are taken to our clinic is because they are itching and scratching? Our vet Sara, with the help of our lovely patient Bealy, explains the main causes of itch and other skin conditions, and gives us some good advice. If you have any questions and if you think your pet can do with a check, contact us on http://mcmasterheap.co.nz/
You might remember Maggie, the lovely 8 year old Border Collie cross with a torn ACL ligament. She underwent a 1-hour long surgery performed by Dr. Michele, and she behaved beautifully! Michele is experienced and skilled specifically in knee surgeries, which she has been performing for over 25 years. There are many ways to surgically repair a knee joint, but she found a procedure that has great surgical success and seems to work well for her patients. So Maggie here is in great hands! Check out the process that our furry friends need to go through in cases like this, and stay tuned to follow Maggie’s recovery. For more info visit us on http://mcmasterheap.co.nz/ ‘
When was last time you took your pet for a dental exam? Steve recently examined Daisy, a lovely 5 year old Springer Spaniel, that was brought in with worn teeth. She was showing signs of pain and discomfort and avoided her favourite activities. The dental exam shows if there are any abscesses and if the infection has gone through the worn out teeth. For more info and to book a dental exam for your pet, please contact our team http://mcmasterheap.co.nz/
