43 Mini Schnauzers took part in this mornings walk over Halswell Quarry with Toby, Piper, Shadow, Coco and Arlo attending for the first time with us.Big shout out for John who took over from me to lead the walk and Sam who will be sending in some super photos of the dogs .

Glorious spring morning for our walk this morning, looking forward to meeting you all. If you haven’t been on any of our walks before come and see me so we can get a photo of your dog. We are meeting in the corner of the dog exercise park at the top end of the path from Cashmere road car park.

Caring for your fur family is a beautiful and happy part of our lives.
The sad part is watching them show signs of ageing.

If they could just speak to you, what would your senior fur buddy like to say, and how can you help them go through this period with ease?

1️⃣ “I can’t see that well anymore.” - Vision Loss

To ensure their safety, clear the clutter on the floor and mark rooms with different scents and rugs with various textures.

2️⃣ “I’m not ignoring you. I just can’t hear that much.” - Difficulty in Hearing

Teach them hand signals to help them understand your commands better.

3️⃣ “I would like to play, but I can’t move too well because I’m in pain.” - Less Interest in Moving

Take them on shorter but more frequent walks and take breaks if necessary.
Have ramps or steps to get up into car or bed .

4️⃣ “I need a little bit more grooming now.” - Changes in Coat, Skin and Nails

Add fish oil to their diet and brush their coat more frequently to help stimulate hair growth.

5️⃣ “I get more confused and anxious these days.” - Behavioural Changes

Be patient and take them to the vet to rule out other illnesses.

Ageing in our fur family members is natural. With extra care and love, you can make this phase as comfortable for them as you can❤️

Please help…

Do any of you Christchurch mini owners have a diabetic mini schnauzer?

if so, do you have a house sitter or caregiver for when you go away?

I have a 3 day trips booked for September and I'm having trouble knowing how to have my mini looked after.

Unfortunately the trip was booked prior to the diabetes diagnosis.

Any advice welcome. Thank you.

65 mini schnauzer’s attended our August 2024 walk today at Kakaha Park, Prebbleton. It was a magical day filled with sunshine and no wind. The minis loved it!!!

A big thank you to all the hoomans who brought their minis to make it such a fun time.

Pet Insurance! Please help…..

Hello, I would appreciate hearing from other schnauzer owners with pet insurances. One of our dogs is twice as much as the other due to them being four years older, but Southern cross have increased the premium as well as adding a $100 excess per vet visit and another additional exclusion. I feel like this is basically paying for having privileges taken away from us and it is $3.6k per year for the both of our dogs. Currently with Southern Cross Pet, and would appreciate any feedback on people’s experiences or recommendations. Thank you.

I am looking for a new family member male or female not a pup but over 5 years old.

Love the mini Schnauzer breed.

Already have a male who is 11 and very respectful of other dogs and non dominant..I adopted him as a re home and keep in close contact with his other Mum with videos photos and updates happy to do the same with a new dog.

What I can offer:
10 years working in dog rescue which includes dog training,adoption and fostering.
20 years working as a zoo keeper
Big backyard which is well fenced
Own my home and live with my mini Schnauzer called Dougy.
Have a huge heart full of love compassion and empathy to give another dog or 2.

I live on the beatiful westcoast of Hokittika in the South Island but very happy to travel to you to met etc.
