Unfortunately we have had a deceased female black cat brought in to us this morning, she does not have a microchip or a collar she was found down by the NPD fuel station on Wairakei road. Please call the clinic if you think this may be your cat.

🎆 Guy Fawkes is tomorrow, so let’s prioritize the safety and well-being of our pets. Fireworks can be stressful for both cats and dogs, so ensure they have a safe space to retreat to. Some other helpful tools to ensure they keep calm are; enrichment toys/ lick mats etc to keep them distracted, thundershirts, pheromone sprays such as Feliway (for cats) and Adaptil (for dogs). Some animals may also benefit from medications to help settle them down, however these can only be prescribed by a veterinarian after a consult. Stay safe! 🎆 🦮🧡

Rabbit general anesthesia is required for many veterinary procedures, such as neutering in the case of this bun Timmy. Anesthesia ensures the rabbit remains pain-free, reducing stress and allowing for safe interventions 🐇✂️
Rabbits are delicate creatures, and maintaining their food intake until just before surgery is vital for their well-being. Encouraging them to eat their normal food right up until surgery helps keep their digestive system in motion and reduces the risk of complications under and after anesthesia🥕 This is different to our cat and dog friends who need to stop eating 10-12h before surgery ☺️

Vet nurses play a huge role in clinic; their duties encompass a wide range of responsibilities, from assisting in surgeries to monitoring anaesthesia, carrying out hospital care and medication administration, and providing care and comfort to anxious or injured animals.

Sweet old boys Rusty and Baxter in for their senior bloods 🩸 Super important to do regular bloods in our older animals so we can pick up common conditions including kidney + liver disease, diabetes and thyroid issues (as well as many others) which if caught early can have a very good outcome! 🐕‍🦺🐈

Did you know dogs and cats can get Diabetes too? 🩺 This is Bia, one of our lovely patients who was recently diagnosed with Diabetes. She was a very brave girl while in hospital and loves cuddles from our team 🐶. Diabetes is a disease which occurs when the pancreas can’t make/ utilize enough insulin, and so the blood glucose level gets too high. Animals with Diabetes normally present with lethargy, weight loss, increased drinking and urination, changes in appetite and cloudy eyes (cataracts). If we are suspicious of diabetes we will confirm it with bloodwork and urinalysis 🩸 Bia will likely be on lifelong daily injections to manage her condition. Diabetes has a good prognosis if treated early so if you notice any of these signs in your pet, best to bring them in! 🐩🐈‍⬛
