Come along and support the Pass Wide & Slow campaign happening today hosted by Cust Equestrian Group! Come and say hello to our team who will be there supporting a great cause! 🤠

Come and join us on our ride this Sunday and take part in the “Pass Wide and Slow” Campaign.
There will be two parts to the ride
A 5 km group ride around our local rural block, this is to allow horses to settle before heading onto the next part which will be a 2 km ride up to the pub for pies
As this is a road safety ride and high-viz is an important of keeping safe on the roads, we will be holding a competition for the best HIGH – VISSED combination (note you still have to be able to ride with it on and not scare the other horses)
There will be lead and following cars and the ride will take place at a walk. We will have carriages joining us, they will lead the ride.
This ride is to raise awareness of riders as vulnerable Road users and the importance of passing horses on the road wide and slow.
If you haven’t got a suitable horse to ride, please still come and join us either leading your horse, riding your bike, walking, or on your favourite hobby horse. If enough hobby horses turn up, we will have an impromptu freestyle dressage competition in the pub carpark.

🔥 Vanessa Strottman, LTE rider (life time earnings) of $135,000 and multiple Open and Reverse Futurity Championships from 2013 till now. This horsewoman certainly has the passion and perseverance in this industry to take it by storm. 🔥

Having spent 7 years working for Stefano Calcagnini, trainer of Calcagnini Reining Horses a progeny of the legendary Tim McQuay, it’s fair to say Vanessa flourished under the guidance of Stefano and his programme. The year of 2017 was the real debut for Vanessa and her mare Cashing In Diamonds making their presence known in the reining pen and showcasing what the duo were made of bringing home the NCRHA FUTURITY level 1,2 and 3 championship as well as reserve champion for the level 4 also winning the NRHA LEVEL 1 Futurity.

2018 saw an opportunity for Vanessa to take a position with the internationally renowned Reining and Cow horse trainer Todd Bergen. One of the best of the best in the industry! Here Vanessa’s programme went from strength to strength gaining knowledge under Todd and creating a real finesse in her horses.

Four years on Vanessa took a step towards entrusting in her programme she had developed over the years of working along some of the best in the industry and opened Vanessa Strotmann Performance Horses in Colorado, USA. ⛰️

Vanessa is an incredibly knowledgeable horsewoman, her starting programme is beyond the best seen with a foundation that helps her horses gain confidence, learn to use their bodies correctly from the beginning and easily advance them up through her programme to becoming an athlete in the performance horse industry. 🏋️‍♀️

🙌 We’re excited to say that we have an opportunity to bring this lovely lady out in January for the North and South Island Reiners, the dates we have in mind for the South Island aren’t on any shows dates and of course we’ll do our best to accommodate the North Island with show dates and location too. This could be a perfect chance to solidify your training and go into the show pen having been coached by this talented horsewoman. We also want to offer this opportunity for young horses too, if you have a young one just started or is within their first to second year under saddle this is an amazing opportunity to learn the beginnings of Vanessa’s Programme and to set your horse up for a successful future. 🙌

Our aim is to keep this as affordable as possible for everyone, but before we secure this great opportunity, we’d like to gather interest from our enthusiastic riders.

NR Performance Horses proudly hosted the first event of our Young / Green Horse Series on Sunday.

We had a diverse range of horses attend, each one ready to achieve new milestones. Handlers and horses built confidence together, creating strong bonds and trust.

Despite the cold weather outside, the green horses warmed up to the challenge, tackling a variety of desensitisation obstacles. Every participant achieved personal first, making it a day of triumph and growth!

So true 💯%!

Things your riding instructor wants you to know:
1. This sport is hard. You don't get to bypass the hard…..every good rider has gone through it. You make progress, then you don't, and then you make progress again. Your riding instructor can coach you through it, but they cannot make it easy.

2. You're going to ride horses you don't want to ride. If you're teachable, you will learn from every horse you ride. Each horse in the barn can teach you if you let them. IF YOU LET THEM. Which leads me to…

3. You MUST be teachable to succeed in this sport. You must be teachable to succeed at anything, but that is another conversation. Being teachable often means going back to basics time and time and time again. If you find basics boring, then your not looking at them as an opportunity to learn. Which brings me to…..

4. This sport is a COMMITMENT. Read that, then read it again. Every sport is a commitment, but in this sport your teammate weighs 1200 lbs and speaks a different language. Good riders don't get good by riding every once in awhile….they improve because they make riding a priority and give themsevles opportunity to practice.

5. EVERY RIDE IS AN OPPORTUNITY. Even the walk ones. Even the hard ones. Every. Single. Ride. Remember when you just wished someone would lead you around on a horse? Find the happiness in just being able to RIDE. If you make every ride about what your AREN'T doing, you take the fun out of the experience for yourself, your horse, and your instructor. Just enjoy the process. Which brings me to...

6. Riding should be fun. It is work. and work isn't always fun.....but if you (or your rider) are consistently choosing other activities or find yourself not looking forward to lessons, it's time to take a break. The horses already know you don't want to be here, and you set yourself up for failure if you are already dreading the lesson before you get here.

7. You'll learn more about horses from the ground than you ever will while riding. That's why ground lessons are important, too. If you're skipping ground lessons (or the part of your lesson that takes place on the ground), you're missing out on the most important parts of the lesson. You spend far more time on the ground with horses than you do in the saddle.

8. Ask questions and communicate. If you're wondering why your coach is having you ride a particular horse or do an exercise, ask them. Then listen to their answer and refer to #3 above.

9. We are human beings. We make decisions (some of them life and death ones) every day. We balance learning for students with workloads for horses and carry the bulk of this business on our shoulders. A little courtesy goes a long way.

Of all the sports your child will try through their school years, riding is one of 3 that they may continue regularly as adults (golf and skiing are the others). People who coach riding spend the better part of their free time and much of their disposable income trying to improve their own riding and caring for the horses who help teach your child. They love this sport and teaching others…..but they all have their limits. Not all good riders are good coaches, but all good coaches will tell you that the process to get good is not an easy one.

Last weekend we hosted “Pegasus Riding Club” for their monthly rally day 🐴

Riders were introduced to a western performance trail pattern and worked on developing their skills to navigate the different elements. We also introduced the riders to our mechanical cow track flag! 🐮

Thank you Pegasus Riding Club for coming out to Nooramunga Ranch for a western experience! We hope everyone enjoyed there day and look forward to welcoming them back in the near future 😁
