If anyoneโ€™s does indeed want to go ahead and mow hay during this period please do let us know, temperatures are still very low however the rain on the radar from Friday seems to be pushing out to Sunday at the moment giving us an additional 48 hours.

Please do read this essay if you are waiting for hay and wondering if we can cut it this week.
The simple answer is yes it can be cut however if your question is "Will it dry" that is not so simple, if it is long, dead, yellow, no green, then yes possibly.
If it has has plenty of green to it then possibly not.

If cut it will need to be dry and baled for Thursday, there is currently light rain tomorrow (light rain also showing for Friday), the temperatures Sunday/ Monday are only 16/17, that wont dry anything at all, over night Monday is 8 degrees (the rest of the week is only 8 or 9 overnight too) which means the grass won't start to dry until around 11/12 am each day and with max temperature of 21 that just doesn't seem possible to successfully dry hay.

As you all know the forecast can and does change regularly but as it stands right now, we won't be mowing our own hay however this dry period IS promising.

Unfortunately a little birdie has told us the long range forecast is showing this weather pattern is settling in for the majority of January, we understand this does mean that hay quality is going to drop - If it is still quite green and not stalky then switching to mini baleage may be possibly a good option but do not recommend wrapping up very yellow or old grass as history has shown us it just doesnโ€™t brew up as well.

Weโ€™re hoping the long range forecast changes just as the short term one does however until then weโ€™re just hoping this means second cuts for those that did baleage or early hay!

Well thatโ€™s the season underway! Currently cutting the first few paddocks ready then will start working through the areas, Masterton & Greytown youโ€™re next up!

The good news is the drought has broken and we can roll some unsavoury paddocks, the bad news is that Laura canโ€™t get her rain jacket over the cast on her arm, two jumpers down and I think sheโ€™s clocking off early to come inside ๐Ÿ˜…

Guys, I know itโ€™s boring sitting behind a 40-50kmph tractor, but please, please, donโ€™t be a tw*t and put not only the driver of the slow Vehicle in danger but the oncoming traffic and yourself. When you look at a collision with a truck and trailer unit vs a car or tractor, thereโ€™s a high chance of a fatality in the smaller vehicles, who are just going along their usual day minding their own business. In this clip, this unit has spent absolutely no time whatsoever behind this tractor, who had just pulled over to let a stream of traffic pass and has pulled back onto the road to continue, itโ€™s got 2 Amber beacons on and flashing so no reason not to see it very clearly. Please drive sensibly, please donโ€™t put our drivers at risk.

๐‘๐จ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐  After this good dose of rain we are heading out rolling some of the paddocks that missed the boat last season so if anyone would like their โ€œbreak your ankleโ€ paddocks done please let us know :)
