Intermediate/Open

lateral hind is made from 13 1/2 of 1"×3/8
Measuring 5 3/4 wide by 6 1/2 to the outside heel. "Hammer finish"

The speedy cutter front is made of 15 1/2" of 3/4×3/8 , Measuring 5 1/2 wide by 5 1/2 to the outside heel

Selwyn Forge hosted a Vet/Farrier seminar this weekend. We wish to thank international Equine Vet Dr Daria Stöcker from Switzerland and Dr Sarah Daly from PVH for presenting this seminar and sharing their wealth of knowledge.
A special thank you to Farrier Trevor Southerland for organizing this event and for his knowledgeable input over the two days.
A lot was covered over the two days; the important of hoof pattern alignment, how to take a good xray, understanding laminitis, casting with impression material, venogams, the importance of a Vet/Farrier team approach to complicated cases.
Alot was learnt, new relationships were networked and a good time was had, thank you to everyone who attended.

Dates: 8th & 9th March 2024
Location: Wanaka a&p show grounds, to be held during the a&p show of 2023.
Judge: Sarah Brown FWCF from the UK.

Class 1 - Team tool making.
2hours, 25mins
• Make a pair of tongs to hold 25mm x 12mm.
• Make one E10 Stamp
• Make one E10 Pritchel
• Make one Fuller

☆Notes on class one - All tools made in class 1 must be used in class 3. Tool Steel will be supplied but teams can bring their own billets if they wish☆

Class 2 - Team Shoe Making, 3 shoes to be made.
1 hour 20 mins.
• Shoe #1 - Heartbar 3/4" x 3/8",
width 5 1/4",
length 5 3/8",
frog plate length 2 1/4".
E4 slim nail.

• Shoe #2 - Concave front from 5/8" square,
width 5 3/8",
length 5 1/4" (to outside heel),
between heels 2 5/8".
E4 slim nails.

• Shoe #3 - Judges choice on the day.

☆Notes of class 2 - Each team member is to make one shoe. It must be nominated who is making which shoe before the class starts. Striker and rasping is allowed☆

Class 3 - Team Shoeing, 75mins
• Teams are to make and fit one front and one hind

☆Notes on class 3 - teams must use tools made in class1☆

Prizes and prize money up to 3rd place.
$800 per team
