It was great to be involved with and helping out many of the Rangi Ruru Girls School riders warm up for their dressage tests this week at South Island Secondary Schools Championships. Overall winners, and 1st and second overall in the dressage teams competition! Such a great group of girls, and so cool to see such a camaraderie between riders in what can, at times, be a very individual sport.
It was also great catching up with and watching lots of other pupils who were competing through the week ❤️

Searching for (on behalf of a client):

For dressage, 15.1hh to 15.3hh, gelding (may look at a mare if not a prima donna) up to 9 years.
Must have at least 1 season competing under their belt preferably training level 2 or 3. Happy if competing unregistered dressage.

No serious quirks and must have great ground manners with no floating or trucking issues. Not spooky and can handle going to shows on their own.

Experienced 59 year old rider - an ex showy and breeder so horse must have great conformation.

Pretty head and white markings a bonus.

Very healthy budget for the right horse, 5* home.

Please PM me with anything you may have tucked away that fits this description 🦄

Don Terzo had his first show today, and took it all in his stride - some scruffy green moments were involved as he wasn’t overly confident about the sand flicking the pipes, and tried to exit the arena twice going past A 🤭 But nothing some more mileage won’t fix.
Terzo has such a cool brain on him, and from his attitude towards being out today, you’d think he’d been at it a lot longer! He has already developed a bit of a fan club from those who saw him today 💕
I can’t wait to see what this horse is like with continued development and strength, I have a huge soft spot for him & really rate his ability.
Thanks to his owner, Joy, for trusting me with the reins of both Terzo and his brother (who unfortunately didn’t make it today due to a shoe malfunction this morning). And also mum for playing groom!
And my sponsors - The Cover Queen, and Epona Downs Equestrian Limited - Wow Saddles Elite NZ.
With some other newbies to get out in the coming months, as well as Vera coming back to the arena after what will have been nearly a year away from competing, I’m excited to see what this season brings!

Lilly is going to have a couple of more weeks work put into her and will then be available for a very reasonable 💰
Super mover, sweet natured, and well put together. Lilly is green for her age due to no fault of her own, but is coming along nicely.
She will be advertised properly in a couple of weeks with further photos and videos, but also happy to answer any inquiries about her now for those who don’t want to wait!
A real quality young mare who in the right hands, will go far in any discipline.

We seem to have a few greys in at the moment! 😂
7yo Flora arrived today to soon start looking for her new person. Another Bloomfield Fahabi (Fiderstern), from a Lessing (Londonderry) mare. Full details and ridden photos/video to come once she’s in work and up and running! 🦄

We’ve had a closed book over the worst part of winter (or we hope that it was!), with only my own horses and a few clients horses who are here for longer term stays in work (such as rising 5yo Terzo, pictured) so we’ve been a bit quiet! It’s been nice to have a bit of a break from the norm, recharge the batteries, and gear up for what promises to be an incredibly busy season ahead.
Next week will see the paddocks fill up again, and back to full steam ahead. In amongst the new arrivals we have a few lovely sales horses on the books, so keep your eyes peeled!

In amongst it all, we are very excited to be standing Quasar SSH - Cremello Warmblood Stallion NZ at stud. He has some super quality mares from all around NZ booked for the 24/25 season and we won’t be accepting too many more, as I will also be starting him under saddle in the New Year.…he is a prospect for myself to ride and produce through the grades so each season he will only be available to a limited amount of select mares.

The winter coats are coming out thick and fast now….bring on Spring! 🌸

A very bittersweet sale - but Loui has found his new 🏡
I had huge belief in this horse since the moment I first sat on him as a green as grass, gangly just turned 5yo. He has proved me right, and more - and with strength, time, and consistent work, he has come ahead in leaps and bounds and shows serious talent. It has been an absolute privilege to produce him.
Being in this business is not a get rich quick scheme, so unfortunately hard decisions need to be made, and the good ones sometimes need to be sold!
When his new mum first contacted me and explained her special situation and the sort of horse she needed - I had a gut feeling that Loui would be absolutely perfect for her. I couldn’t be more excited about the home and rider he is heading to, with some pretty impressive goals in their sights! I will be their biggest cheerleader….I hope you have your passport ready Loui ! ✈️ 🌍

Rory has headed home, but should anyone wish to view him, his owner is happy to bring him back here. Big, saddle hunter type 12yo 17hh Irish/WBx gelding. Safe, well put together, and three lovely paces. Has competed successfully (mainly dressage and the odd show), and hacks out. Perfect time to go horse shopping, so you still have time to get to know your new steed before the season swings into gear!
Over the coming weeks we will also have a few others advertised, two lovely 5yo 15.2hh mares - one by FF Lissandro and the other by Centavos, and my own 5yo 17.1hh mare by Lets Kiss N Tell will also be advertised properly in the near future. Please feel free to get in touch with any prior interest!

Terzo today - I LOVE this horse, he has so much ability. He has been with us for schooling for the winter, and recently had his full brother join him here.
4yo Lipizzaner/WB x - I promise he’s not as grubby as the photos make him look, he’s a rather interesting pink/beige colour at the moment 😂 I think he will be very fleabitten as his summer coat comes through!

Rory went on adventure to the forest today with his mum (on their own), who reported that he cruised on the buckle and loved his outing!
There were a few jumps over logs involved, which he apparently showed plenty of air over and got the hang of it pretty quickly 🦄

🦄 Rory - Trevalda Riordan Irish 🦄
✅ 12yo 17hh Irish/WB x - triple registered with Irish, Warmblood and Trakehner.
✅ Three lovely, flowing paces. Shoulder in, travers and counter canter established - would be ready for elementary or medium next season with the right rider.
✅ Straight and well put together
✅ Does not need riding every day
✅ Easy to handle
✅ Hacks out, good in traffic, and has competed successfully in showing and dressage.
✅ Safe and laid back!

Surely this guy ticks someone’s boxes….he is a super fun ride and very easy to have around.
Video available!

We have one winter early bird service that was previously claimed, but has now fallen through (due to a lease mare not being available anymore) - become up for grabs once more.
$1000 plus GST (normally $1500 plus GST). Normal contract including an LFG applies.
These three early birds were all jumped on within the hour when I first advertised them….so please message ASAP if you are interested to avoid missing out.

Fresh off the ✈️ from 🇦🇺- Secco has joined us here for training, alongside his full brother, Terzo, who has already been here for a couple of months.
These guys are Lipizzaner/WB x - really lovely, talented horses who I think are going to make a splash in NZ!
Sporting his new The Cover Queen 200g detachable - which will keep him nice and warm as he’s in for a shock coming into a South Island winter ❄️

A memory popped up on my personal page yesterday from a sales horse I had 9 years ago (before this page started up!), which got me thinking, I had been riding clients horses for several years before that - through my last few years of high school and my earlier years at university while studying towards a law degree, to help fund the running costs of my own horses at the time.
I didn’t realise before now just how long I’ve been doing this! 🫣 It’s a tough game at times, and although there are times I wonder why the hell I bother - the highs definitely outweigh the lows, and I am incredibly fortunate to have the quality of horses I have at the moment sitting out in the schoolers paddocks, and the privilege of riding them every day.
It was a massive leap of faith pursuing a career in horses rather than law (my degree is currently sitting hidden in a cupboard, the most expensive piece of laminated paper I hope I’ll ever get 🤣) and I am eternally grateful to my clients who put their faith in me to produce, train or sell their horses, and also have me in their ear when riding.
Here are a few photos from the early days 🥰

Rory (12yo 17hh Irish/WB gelding) is still available through absolutely no fault of his own - safe, uncomplicated (to ride and handle), quality, and the sort that you can pull out of the paddock after time off and hop on and go. Perfect for those who are a bit time poor, especially at this time of year with limited daylight hours!
With his owner (who has had him since a weanling) he has been successful to level 2 dressage (unregistered), and is working towards level 3.
He is the same to ride at competition as he is at home, and good out hacking and in traffic.
A real saddle hunter type, and well schooled - with three lovely paces to boot. Video available further down, please don’t hesitate to message with any questions.

The old man ❤️
Elmo is looking a bit different these days to what he used to a few years back! We never quite realised just how hairy he really is as he was always clipped out by mid April ✂️
He is living his best life in retirement, keeping everyone in check and reminding them of their manners.
I owe this guy everything, he was far from being a natural, or really built for the Grand Prix work (I often describe him as being built like a camel), but somehow, we got there. At the time I would’ve given my eye teeth for a horse that was more talented with the collected work, but looking back - I wouldn’t change a thing. I learnt far far more training a horse like Elmo through to Grand Prix than I ever would have a horse that found it easy.
He tried his wee heart out for me, and what a journey we had!
I cannot wait to (hopefully) get back out in the big rings eventually with the horses I have coming through now 🤞🏼

It’s been a few days of deliberating around here - I’m fortunate enough to be in a position at the moment that I would have killed to have been in only a few years ago, with four of my own seriously quality young up and coming horses in work. Unfortunately however, there are only enough hours in the day, and with a full book of clients horses that doesn’t look like slowing down anytime soon, as well as another 3yo to get started later this year - I really need to part with one of my own to free up some time and space!

I said a while back I was keeping Loui to produce - and he has come ahead in huge strides over the last few months. But realistically I prefer my horses to be bigger than what he is, and I am very much becoming a mare person! Sadie was always ear-marked to part with but she has seriously impressed me over the last week and has become very much my sort of horse. So Loui has drawn the short straw. Parting with him is absolutely no reflection of the belief I have in him or my opinion on his talent to go through the grades. He can be quirky to handle, and has a vetting issue. I am also realistic that the current market isn’t thriving - so, his 💵 ballpark is very much reflective of this.

6yo Fugato/TB, 16.2hh.
Three seriously quality paces and well put together. With some more polish Loui will be set to compete at medium level next season, and I believe he will be one to beat with the right rider on board. He is a beautiful ride - very adjustable, good off the leg and light in the contact. Lateral work established, and has begun half steps and shows plenty of capacity to really sit and take weight behind. He is a safe ride and not hot or spooky.
He has competed twice, and while he was a lot greener in his work back then (January 24) he got some good scores and great comments, as well as coping very well with a competition atmosphere.
He is great to hack out (alone or with other horses) around our quiet gravel roads.
Loui does have his quirks on the ground, and is not for anyone nervous or inexperienced in their ground work and handling. However under saddle I have trusted him completely for my non horsey partner to have a ride!
He is great to clip, shoe, catch, float, etc.
Loui is as sound as a bell, but does have findings on x ray - personally I do not feel these would prevent him from going on to achieve great things, and am more than happy to discuss.
Matching Loui with the perfect person is my priority, and I am prepared to take a hit on the 💵 I get for him to find his perfect person.
He is a serious quality horse, who would be perfect for a rider with big aspirations but a limited budget. I would gladly be keeping him as an FEI prospect for myself if there were more hours in the day! My loss is someone else’s gain.
Plenty of videos available.
Please PM with any inquiries.

Sadie making it reeeaally hard for me to part with her 🫣 But unfortunately with limited hours in the day, and a full book of clients horses - I have too many of my own to do justice to. She has come back in feeling better than ever, giving this lovely big mare time before she really gets cracking under saddle has been the making of her. At this stage I might advertise everyone and let the market decide for me who I let go 🙈

He is such a fun horse to ride!
17hh 12yo Irish/Warmblood x. Safe as houses, has competed successfully to novice level dressage (unregistered) and schooling towards elementary. Good to hack, not the sort that needs riding every day to have an enjoyable ride.
Three nice paces and well put together - he is an absolute dude 😎
