Tania was very lucky to come home with BOB P/E Gold Roan and placing in Adult Self Black Boar & 5/9 Self Gold sows. 🤩

Otago Cavy Club (Guinea Pig Club) also had a Pet Show at our Winter Champs Show on June 30th; a big congrats to all pet exhibitors with their beautiful, well cared-for & conditioned pets! 👏

It was great to see a significant number of pets entered and some fantastic fancy dress entries that a lot of effort went into. We recommend all Guinea Pigs owners bring their Guinea pigs to our next show for a fun time filled with learning!

❄️Winter Championship & Pet Show Judges Bio - Jen Ballin❄️

I began my cavy journey in 2010, as many fanciers do, with two pets purchased from the local markets. This soon led to the discovery of the world of cavy exhibition! I registered my prefix ‘Kudos’ and sourced my first exhibition cavies early in 2011, one of which was a lovely Self Chocolate sow, Mirrormere Choc Top, who did well on the table and began my continuing passion for Self Chocolates, which I have bred and exhibited since then. I’ve bred and exhibited many different breeds over the years including Dutch in various colours, Texel, Rex and Lemon Agouti, but there are always Self Chocolates in the shed.

Since becoming an Australian National Cavy Council Judge in May 2018, I have enjoyed the challenge and experience of the cavy fancy from the other side of the table at appointments (pre-Covid) around Australia and in New Zealand.

I moved from Kingaroy, in Queensland, to live and work on beautiful Norfolk Island in January 2021, so for the moment I’m now actually living closer to Auckland than Brisbane! Most of my cavies were dispersed to friends at the end of 2021; I retained only a few of my favourites which remain in Queensland, being kept and exhibited by wonderful friends. I will be returning to Queensland after my NZ trip, and am looking forward to getting back into the shows then.

I am very much looking forward to judging for you in Dunedin soon, catching up with my NZ cavy friends, meeting new people and seeing more of your beautiful place on my upcoming visit.

❄️Matariki Ribbon & Point Show Judges Bio - Andorra Sedgeman❄️

Hi, my name is Andorra Sedgeman I am from Cornwall in the UK and immigrated to New Zealand with my family in 2008. I didn’t really know much about cavies until I decided to get some pets for my children and ended up talking to an ex-member of the Auckland Cavy Club who had some purebreds and wanted out of cavies so I took some on. I didn’t have a clue about the breeds but took some along to an Auckland Cavy Club show who were still having caged shows at the time. I put them in the cages literally straight off the lawn. Obviously my pigs did terribly, but I was invited to come back to the next show. I was completely taken in by the friendliness of the club, and their willingness to take time to explain things to a completely new person. I started my own stud, Cornish Cavies and have continued to breed under this name.

I was part of the two ‘man’ team, with Andy Lawrie that went to Australia and imported 90 cavies safely to NZ, the first import in over 20 years. In this import I brought back the first Red Dutch and American Crested Goldens for my Cornish Stud and showed and bred them successfully.

Gradually I got more involved with the club and eventually submitted an application for judges training with the New Zealand Cavy Council, and was accepted. It took quite a few years to qualify as we were interrupted by COVID, but I became a qualified All Breeds Judge last year after successfully completing my probationary judging.

With my family we moved from Auckland to Lawrence Otago in January 2021 and a few months later with Josh Wilson-Jones, we re-established the Otago Cavy Club.

The current breeds in my shed are English Crested Black, Sheltie, Alpaca and Texel.

My first visit to an overseas Cavy Show was in Victoria and I was blown away by the quality of cavies exhibited. I was honoured to be invited to judge for the Cavy Council of Victoria as my first international appointment which was very exciting.I returned to Australia to Joint Judge with Debbie Lawrie at the Royal Easter Show 2023 .
